Harm reduction measures in the Czech prison: availability and distribution of condoms from the perspective of prisoners

Background: The diploma thesis deals with the topic of prisons as a risky environment in relation to the transmission of infectious diseases. The condom distribution in prison settings is one of possible harm reduction interventions in terms of preventing the transmission of infectious diseases among prison population and in general society. Aims: The aim of the work is to map the availability and distribution of condoms and its perception from the prisoners' point of view in Prague-Pankrác Prison, where the distribution took place. The work also deals with the risky behaviour of convicts, through which infectious diseases are transmitted. File: The group of respondents consists of prisoners who served their sentences in two randomly selected wards where condoms were distributed. The data were collected in two waves, in which a total of 160 and 190 prisoners participated. The composition of the sample changed during the research due to the natural fluctuation of people who were accused and convicted in prisons and, in addition, due to a change in the law on the execution of sentences of imprisonment. Bio-psycho-social-spiritual model in the buprenorphine substitutional treatment

This thesis is focused on the application of holistic, bio-psycho-social-spiritual model of dependence to concrete therapeutic method, namely to the substitution treatment of persons dependent on opiate addictive substances with synthetic opioid buprenorphine. The aim is to describe the essence of BPSS model of addiction, with the specifics of opiate addiction, and the treatment system based on it. Also, to show substitution therapy as one of the most effective methods that improves quality of a dependent person's life. Further, to confirm the need for a holistic perception of substitution treatment when ersatz drug use itself is not a real chance for dependent persons, unless such treatment is accompanied by psychosocial and spiritual therapeutic approach. Another objective is to map the risk that, in practice, the substitution therapy initiation in a holistic range brings in the context of contemporary reality. Identification and evaluation of websites of harm reduction interventions targeting illicit drug users in the Czech Republic

The thesis describes the course and results of the research into the field of Harm Reduction (HR) through the internet websites in the Czech language. Nowadays the internet forms an inseparable part of most people's lives from all social classes. This fact is reflected in the interests of both service providers for drug users and laymen interested in drug issues. Unfortunately, according to current research we do not know much about what information and in which quality and range can people find about drug Harm reduction on the internet. Therefore, the aim of this thesis was to identify and evaluate internet websites in the field of harm reduction intervention focused on the users of illegal drugs in the Czech Republic. Internet websites were evaluated not only with respect to the contents and range of the information provided but also with respect to topicality, functionality and objectivity. What was found were 13 Czech complex websites, 7 professional HR organisations and also 6 non-professional HR websites. Drop In Addictology Services in Towns

The thesis deals with the specific characteristics of drop-in addictology services in a small town. In the introduction, the author describes the drop-in addictology services existing and their activities. The thesis provides a brief insight into the basic principles of such services and their application in the Czech Republic. The core of the thesis consists of the research carried out among the employees of the civic association o. s. Prevent who work in drop-in addictology services in small towns. Within such research, the method of semi-structured narrative interview was applied. The objective of such research was to identify the specifics of their work in small towns as perceived by the employees proper. The intention was to compare the work carried out in small towns to the work as conducted in larger ones. The results identified are meant to point out the issues and challenges of working in small towns, to illustrate the setup of services in these locations, and to outline other possibilities for the future through the employees' eyes. Contact centre as an unwelcome neighbour

Thesis "Contact centre as an unwelcome neighbor"deals with a case of the Sananim's contact centre, that was obliged to agree with the relocation of their workplace from the area. Thesis is confronting the neighbor's resistance the centre is facing with the NIMBY concept, which is demonstrated by the analysis of interviews. Situation of the contact centre of Sananim o.s. is compared with the contact centre Progressive's Stage 5. Sources of the resistance are distinguished within the analysis by use of NIMBY typology. The most significant source of the resistance is identified to be the neighbor's resistance. Thesis describes the situation, which was caused by the resistance on different levels within typology and is also suggesting possible solutions to the resulting situation. In the final sections of the thesis, author recommends to improve the cooperation and communication between Sananim's contact centre and other contact centres in the area, adjacent borough and most importantly with their oponents. Author later recommends the realization of more extensive and deeper research, and offers several research questions and hypotheses for occasion of its realization.
Harm reduction and tobacco smoking

The main goal of this work was to investigate behavior and attitude of Czech smokers towards e-cigarettes, smokeless tobacco and reduction of number of cigarettes by means of questionnaire inquiry. These Harm Reduction methods are favorable for smokers who at present are not able or willing to quit smoking as prevalence of smoking and mortality resulting from diseases connected to smoking are high. Theoretical part concerns basic notions and terminology of tobacco, epidemiology of tobacco usage, legislative measures and above all the less risky alternatives of tobacco usage together with their most current research. Practical part firstly describes methods of data collection and analysis coming from quantitative research based on questionnaires as well as results of the analysis. Target group were smokers aged 15 and more, living in the area of Czech Republic. Total amount of respondents was 302. Data were collected through internet portal vyplnto.cz as and personally by questioning random people and firms in Prague and then processed through statistical program R and Microsoft Excel. The use of psychotropic substances in the "goth" subculture

The thesis mapping the use of psychotropic substances in the specific youth subcultures - Goth, which the author himself is a member. The theoretical part is briefly sketched the definition of culture and subcultures, and describes Goth subculture for notion of the survey respondents. It then states the author's previous research, which was conducted in Prague on monthly social event, and presents the results of population surveys on annual reports to compare the obtained data. The practical section provides the actual data from 169 respondents to a comprehensive lifetime, annual and monthly experience with psychotropic substance and the author states as well as daily and risk taking. It describes the process using a web questionnaire self- selection and focus groups for evaluation questionnaire. Questionnaire examine frequency of use of the twelve groups of psychotropic substances, risk taking (CAGE, CAST, Fageström test), and asked about the possible addiction (According to the criteria of ICD - 10). Harm reduction strategies of cannabis drugs use from the point of view of their users

Background: Cannabis drugs are the most used illicit drug in the Czech Republic. About 1,78 million people use cannabis, most of them are young people aged 15-34 years (Mravčík et al., 2020). Use in the young age, regular and intensive use of large amounts of cannabis is associated with the negative impact on health and life of users. Previous studies have described the harm redcution strategies, less is known about relative occurrence of the hram reduction stategies, especially in the czech environment. Aims: The aim of the study was to investigate what kind of harm reduction strategies are used by cannabis users. Methods: The research was conducted as a quantitative study. This mapping study was aimed to describe the behaviour of cannabis users in relation to use of the harm reduction strategies, and to explore the relative occurrence of these strategies. As a method of data collection was used a questionnaire survey. Results: Most frequently emerged harm reduction strategies among cannabis users are in relation to the effects of use on physical health. Most of these strategies focus on minimising the harms associated with smoking cannabis, particularly marijuana cigarettes.
