Comics as a method for improvement of redaing skills in the teaching of german as foreign language
Neradová, Zuzana ; Kafka, Clemens (advisor) ; Botlík Nuc, Tomáš (referee)
An increase in reading competence proceeds in five stages, with the fifth stage being literary competence, in which readers can absorb and evaluate the entire emotional world of the story and all the implicit information it contains. Increasing reading competence has a positive impact on both overall language ability and intercultural competence. One possible method to increase reading literacy is through comics - pictorial or other characters arranged in spatial sequences to convey information and/or create an aesthetic effect on the viewer - which have several advantages such as short texts, context given by pictures or authentic language. Comics offer a direct method of delivery of the emotions contained in the text. To test the effectiveness of comic books in increasing literacy, an experiment was conducted with two adaptations of E.M. Remarque's "All Quiet on the Western Front" - in a linguistically simplified version and in a literature comic form. The study showed that at A2 level, simple language books are more suitable for increasing reading literacy, as the measured increase in reading literacy was 20% higher for the students who worked with the linguistically simplified version than for those who worked with the literature comic. Dolejš, Jakub ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Kýrová, Lucie (referee)
The thesis analyses the representation of gay male characters in comics published by Marvel and DC in the 1990s. Through a comparative analysis based on the data collected, the publishers' approaches to three aspects of the representation of homosexuality - that is, coming out, the subsequent representation of sexuality, and the topic of HIV/AIDS - will be compared. Five characters were selected for comparison from the two publishers based on certain criteria such as the number of appearances in the comics or the year of coming out about sexuality. For these selected characters, the author of this thesis follows the mentioned themes and then compares their subsequent representation.

Víchová, Veronika ; Ježková, Tereza (advisor) ; Končelík, Jakub (referee)

They are often published via social media and special platforms (for example webtoon. co mor tapas.io), which are often free and can be displayed on the phone. This makes webtoons easily accessible for consumers. Because of absence a publishing house, authors have a lot of creative freedom, so webtoons can be very diverse. Webtoons can have various art style, different genres and plots, or they can contain sound or animation. This can make them appealing to a wide range of consumers. Author can even earn money from publishing webtoons on platforms with revenue program (for example webtoon.com have this type of program). Successfull authors sometimes publish books or some kind of merchendise. This thesis aims to examine whether the respondents know webtoons, whether they actively consume webtoons, what their opinions are or what preferences consumers have. Important is also to find out if the respondents share webtoons with their freinds. Respondents indicate their genre preferences, reading habits, favorite platforms or authors. Respondents appreciate practicality and accessibility of webtoon, because they can read thewebtoons even while traveling or waiting.

Notions of Sexuality and Gender Identity in the Marvel Company Production
HORVÁTH, Roman
The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of forms of sexuality and gender identity in the production of the Marvel company and focuses on comics. It examines the representation of sexuality and gender identity in comics. The stereotyping of the depiction of female heroines is also analysed and focuses on the representation of masculinity, femininity and queer signs. At the same time, it seeks to analyse gender stereotypes in the construction of female heroines using the psychoanalytic concept of male gaze. The development of these topics is also interspersed with socio-cultural context. The aim is also to view and analyse the possible impact of emancipation movements and historical events to comic book creation. The work can be split into two parts, of which the first theoretical part contains chapters focusing on the theory of comics from the comic book theorist Scott McCloud. It also focuses on the formal elements of comics supplemented by the theory of Martin Foret. The following parts are devoted to the methodology of comics, based on the theory of Michal Uhl. In the following chapters, there are topics such as the corporeality of the heroes and their representations, the history of Marvel and issues of gender, identity and sexuality. The next part is already devoted to the analysis of comics, which by its nature is rather a compilation of partial texts. The analytical texts focus on Captain America, Black Widow, X-Men and Mutants in the overall context and a group of Young Avengers heroes, which explore themes such as the interconnectedness of propaganda and embodiment, feminism and emancipation of female heroines, queer themes as a metaphor for mutantism and stereotypical representation of gay heroes.
Lock
Čech, David ; Motal, Tomáš (referee) ; Vaněk, Vojtěch (advisor)
The bachelor's thesis combines an artist's comic book and a gamebook. Following the example of classic gamebooks, the narrative is divided into numbered segments between which the player chooses. Thematically, the work focuses on architecture, especially on the interiors and their interconnection with the selected objects. In this case, the individual segments correspond to the specific physical spaces of the illustrated building. The work contains a minimum of text and the main part of the information is communicated through the image. The output of the bachelor's thesis is a paper version of the artist's interactive content. The main part of the content is a series of consecutive illustrations. Using the numeric navigation, the player can move between pages and thus compose a picture of the situation that the story part of the work presents. The aim of the work is the creation of an artist's interactive comic book, that is not based on the text, but lets the player interact directly with the visual environment.
Soloomons Daughters
Brůčková, Kamila ; Prokůpek, Tomáš (referee) ; Rathouský, Luděk (advisor)
The Solomon's daughters comic brings a new concept to the topic of witch-hunting. It is situated in the period before and during World War II, consciously working with associations with the time that is only mediated by literature and film to most people these days. Although some topics concerning humanity and cruelty are still emerging, we perceive this period with a certain distance and a comprehensive evaluation. And precisely because of how clear and familiar the facts are, we can now afford to work with the environment and that time mostly as a backdrop that offers us certain opportunities for story development and aesthetic integrity.
