Use of the Czech Press Agency for the purpose of propaganda

Diploma thesis ,,Use of the Czech press agency for the purpose of propaganda" analyses the relationship between the Czech press agency, state and its executive in seven time periods from 1918 - 1993. Theoretical aim of this work is to delimitate the status and mission of the Czech press agency in relation to the state and its executive in each of the seven chosen periods, based on the official legislation. Practical part focuses on an analysis of ten randomly chosen news stories concerning government's activities from three different journals in each of the seven periods. Each analysed story contains one of the keywords government, party, minister or state. Each story is also produced by the Czechoslovak/Czech press agency. Main target of this work is to delimitate clearly the relationship between the Czech press agency and the state, then subsequently demonstrate, using qualitative analysis, how was this relationship reflected in the content of agency's news. For example, how was the communication between the Czech press agency and the state changing and how was the communication between the state and the public through the Czech press agency changing in each of the analysed periods. Influence of Global News Agencies on the Form of Foreign News in Czech Daily Press

What effect do global news agencies have on foreign sections of Czech daily newspapers; that's the focus of this master thesis. The theoretical part of the thesis introduces two before-mentioned concepts of intermedia agenda-setting and globalization of news. Other theoretical concepts like gatekeeping, news values or media routine are also briefly presented. So are profiles of selected media outlets are also presented. Next part of the thesis introduces the reader to methodology upon which the research is based. The research itself is divided into two parts. The first one is a quantitative content analysis of ČTK's foreign news agenda during the specified period. The same analysis was also carried out for selected Czech daily newspapers. The research focused on several variables - what media sources are being used, what topics do the articles cover or who are the actors mentioned in the articles. The second part of the research focused on whether and on what scale do daily papers use texts provided by ČTK and if they're being used without adjustments. Main findings of the research with commentary are presented in the conclusion section of this thesis.

Jaromír Jágr in ČTK Reports

The bachelor thesis "Jaromír Jágr in ČTK Reports" deals with describing the development of sports news coverage by the Czechoslovak/Czech News Agency using the example of a specific significant sports celebrity. The thesis consists of a brief biography of Jaromír Jágr which describes the celebrity and explains why he has been chosen, followed by two main segments. The first segment describes the role of the Czech News Agency with special emphasis on its coverage of sports news. Also included are metadata important for the second segment, which the agency uses in the Czech News Agency's Infobank. The second segment analyzes news from the Czech News Agency's Infobank related to Jaromír Jágr. Based on these news the thesis describes the development of agency sports reporting from home, foreign and international contests. It pays increased attention to textual news reporting of the Czech News Agency, but also mentions other formats such as photographs, infographics, audio recordings and video recordings. The mentioned changes in news reporting are explained on the basis of the agency's annual reports from the point of view of the Czech News Agency itself.

The reflection of the minor sports in the Czech News Agency press service

The diploma thesis The reflection of the minor sports in the Czech News Agency press service deals with news agency coverage of sports which do not belong to the most watched in the Czech Republic: basketball, floorball, handball and volleyball. Author describes the development of the sports journalism's position within the journalism in general and also within the society in the theoretic part. He also deals with the particular types of the text and audio-visual news services which are produced by the Czech News Agency. The research was focused on the Czech minor sports' leagues as well as on other international or national competitions since June 2017 to April 2018. The news service is divided into specific categories (usually pre-season period, regular season and possible qualifying/relegation rounds or play offs and play outs) in the domestic leagues research. Author of the thesis compares the position of the individual minor sports among each other and also deduces the position of the minor sports compared to major sports like football or ice hockey from the quantified data. Trump for President. Analysis of the media image of Donald Trump in the ČTK news

This thesis titled "Trump for President. Analysis of the media image of Donald Trump in the CTK news" deals with the portrayal of Donald Trump. This thesis focuses on Trump related news release from March 18, 2015 to January 20, 2017. In March 2015, Mr Trump announced his intention to run for presidency of the United States through the Republican Party and would be taking part in the primaries. He officially became president in January 2017. The aim of the thesis, which is based on quantitative research using content analysis, is to find out how the role of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America was reflected in CTK news. The paper aims to clarify whether the media`s interest in Donald Trump had been steadily rising over the period under review in CTK and which of the thematic categories are covered in the various stages of pre-election rivalry even after the election. An aggregate of articles was used as a data resource from CTK`s infobank. It can be concluded from the results that Trump's success also depended on the fact that he was able to highlight his personality and set criterias relating to his ideologies and political experience through the help of the media.

Multimedialization of production of Czech news agency focusing on audio and video service

Diplomová práce Multimedializace produkce České tiskové kanceláře se zaměřením videoservis se zabývá proměnami, které se v agentuře udály v nástupem digitalizace, internetu a moderních technologií. ČTK se působením těchto vlivů stala konvergovanou multimediální agenturou nabízející kromě tradičního textového a fotografického zpravodajství také infografické, zvukové a audiovizuální zpravodajství. Práce popisuje, na základě rozhovorů se zaměstnanci ČTK, jak probíhal vznik a vývoj audioservisu od roku 2000 a videoservisu od roku 2006 do současnosti. Zároveň průběhu let transformoval objem těchto servisů. Pomocí kvantitativní obsahové analýzy zjišťuje, jakým způsobem se proměnili mluvčí ve zvukovém zpravodajství a zastoupení zdrojů ve videozpravodajství.

The news of Czech news agency from Latin America

The aim of the thesis The news of Czech News Agency from Latin America is to document the form of the Czech News Agency's text news from Latin America, to reveal whether the agency fulfills its obligation to inform about events abroad according to Act No. 517/92 Coll., and also to expand the very limited number of studies related to this topic. This work deals with news agencies and takes into consideration the CTK as a public institution and outlines the characteristics of Latin America and its relations with our country. Using quantitative content analysis, I find out how much space CTK spends on the countries of the North, Central and South America, which countries are re-informing and which countries virtually ignore in its news. I examine what priority messages are usually assigned and which areas of public life are concerned. Last but not least, I compare the monitored reality from the first half of 2016 to the first half of 2006 to reveal how much informing about Latin America has changed over the course of a decade. At thesis I provide a detailed analysis of Czech News Agency's production from Latin American countries, which no one has ever dealt with in the Czech environment so far, and present the results of my analysis in the tables and charts.

Medial coverage of cross-country World Championship 2016 by ČTK and servers mtbs.cz, aktualne.cz and iDNES.cz

The bachelor's thesis is focused on the information service provided by the media during World championship in cross-country in Nové Město na Moravě 2016. Cross-country is a progressive olympic discipline which is attracting more and more audience around the world. Throughout its history, we could see many changes in its rules which are affected by the new technologies, like shortening racing time, and also changes in expectations of the fans who want to watch faster and more difficult style of racing than the decade before. The thesis also concerns itself with mountain biking in general, its history and its founders. Main goal of this thesis is to find out how the media, more specifically ČTK, iDNES.cz, Aktuálně.cz and mtbs.cz, informed about news and results from the World championship. Also there will be a comparison between their reports and services they provided, like photo or video recordings.

Media image of czech presidents in the normalization era and in the present

This thesis, The Media Image of Czech Presidents during the Normalisation Period and Today looks at the visual component of the media image of Normalisation-era president Gustáv Husák and democratic president Václav Havel. The study looks at their visual representations in the newspapers Rudé právo, Mladá fronta and Mladá fronta DNES. The theoretical part of the study focuses on defining the role of President in the Czech political system, and outlines the historical context. The research part comprises a quantitative and qualitative analysis of photographs published in the determined newspapers. The study also details the characteristic activities of official presidential photographers and gives an assessment of information acquired during in-depth interviews with official presidential photographers. An interview with a former Czech News Agency (ČTK) photographer deals with the taking of photographs of President Gustáv Husák. An interview with Tomki Němec, Karel Cudlín and Jaroslav Hejzlar focuses on the taking of photographs of Václav Havel. Judicial decisions of Constitutional Court of the Czech republic in coverage of ČTK

The Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic is one of the most important institutions in the Czech constitutional and political system. However, his agenda isn't attractive at all for the general public and because of that, media have an important role in news reporting about it. It applies especially for the public service media, among whom we could include also the Czech Press Office. The thesis is trying to analyse the news reporting products of CTK related to judicial decisions of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic. It uses four particular cases from the relevant research period, which was set to 2010-2015. The thesis also offers theoretical basis for analysis - it describes the role of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic and it follows up also the role of press agencies as an information sources.
