Falsification of paintings and its impact on the Czech art market

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the impacts of the falsification of paintings on the art market and on individuals. Another aim of the thesis is to identify the risk factors of buying art works on the Czech market. The partial aim is to bring to readers a comprehensive view of the issue of the falsification of paintings on the domestic art market. The theoretical part is based on the literature that has not been published so far and maps the basic mechanisms of falsification of paintings. The practical part is based on interviews with experts, criminologists and collectors who have a personal experience of buying a forger. Based on the results of the interviews, the issues of falsification of painting works are answered, the most frequently falsified Czech artists are identified and the risk factors that lead to the purchase of counterfeit. Three artists demonstrate an analysis of expertise and forensic technique in determining the authenticity of the art work.
Analysis of Price Determinants in the Art Market

1 Abstract What qualities make the best-selling artworks worth so much? Does the in- terest of the general public influence the probability that the art will be sold in auction? The art market research focuses on various aspects that affect the potential of art as an investment. The boom of big data offers a unique op- portunity to utilize its global impact and improve the present models with a novel measure. Into the econometric analysis of auction results the thesis im- plements a change in the Internet searching volume provided by Google Trends as a reflection of the taste and the state of mind of society. The subject of the detailed discussion are not only the price determinants, but also the factors that affect the selling probability. The findings lead to a conclusion that the proposed measure based on Google Trends is significant for determining both, the odds of selling the artwork and its price. Beside that, an important effect on the price and the probability have auction houses, the personal brand of the artist or the medium of artwork. The Saatchi Phenomenon

This bachelor thesis focuses on Charles Saatchi, who will be presented here as an important figure among contemporary art collectors. Not only the biography, which is written in the following chapters, but also Saatchi's art collection, buying strategies and the Saatchi Gallery are mentioned. This thesis examines possible connections between Saatchi's acquisitions and the art market. Besides these is written more about the influence of Charles Saatchi on Young British Artists, a loose group of artists. This bachelor thesis presents also Saatchi's relations to the other art collectors.
The phenomenon of the falsifications of the objects of fine arts

The thesis focuses on theoretical analysis of the cultural phenomenon of artwork forgery. It describes the history of forgery in painting and sculpting in the Western society. The analysis is based mostly on philosophy and history of art, psychology, and history. The culturological approach is used, mainly in the interdisciplinary mapping of the historical and psychological process of artwork forgery. The thesis analyses contemporary approaches to the identity of artwork and its forgery, it also depicts partial problems of artwork forgery. To challenge this phenomenon, famous examples of forgers are used and decribed, such as Alceo Dossena, Han van Meegeren, Eric Hebborn, and Wolfgang Beltracchi. The situation and legal concenquences for forgers in the Czech Republic are also described. The aim of this thesis is to offer a complex overview of the phenomenon of artwork forgery.
Alternative risk transfer when dealing with consequences of natural disasters

The main focus of this bachelor thesis named Alternative risk transfer when dealing with consequences of natural disasters is to describe the current problems of catastrophe events, which affect insurance and reinsurance market, their solutions and their development in the past years. The work highlits the reasons why the alternative risk transfer methods are so attractive and essential for investors as well as for insurance companies and also describes the instruments and vehicles on the ART market. The thesis then concentrates on natural disasters and how the insurance and reinsurance companies solve the problems caused by them using insurance-linked securities, more concretely catastrophe bonds, which are the most significant from all the ART products. Dangers and damages related to natural catastrophes are then illustrated on past events and current development including relating stastictics and graphs.
Branding and its importance to primary and secondary art market in the Czech Republic

This masters thesis identifies and analyzes the aspects and specifics of branding of an artist in the art industry, which is relatively different from the branding which we know from the corporate world. The first section defines the theoretical background of the branding and marketing communication with focus on those aspects that are relative to an art and its market specifics. Theoretical definition in combination with the outcome of qualitative research, which was conducted with outperforming contemporary artists and representatives of leading galleries in Czech Republic, helps to outline the most important factors and subjects influencing the artists brand creation process which is described in the practical part of this masters thesis. Besides the quality of the piece of art itself, the aspect of the strong brand is unquestionably increasing the value of artists production. Therefore, this chapter investigates those factors and subjects that have remarkable impact on the value of the artists pieces of art. The last section of this paper gives local and international best examples of contemporary artists with strong brand.
Artist enforecement on the art market in Czech republic

This diploma thesis considers the theme of the art market in Czech republic. The cooperation between gallerists and artists is not following the professional tradition seen in American and European galleries. Those led the artist to present his artworks exclusively in one and only institution in return for services gallery offer him. The change of attitude in needed in both, galerists' and artists' parts. In my diploma thesis, I am confronting their opinions so I can create a model of their cooperation leading to a professionalization of the relationship.
Real assets market

The thesis aims to illuminate the basic real active investment options of the art market. The current state of the art market and its implications for investments oportunities will be the first part examined (including the contemporary trending), followed by pros and cons of such investment endeavours. The empirical part of the thesis comprises of the examination of foundation of the art trade and its progress in the Czech Republic and a close look on the global market of the last few years. The thesis concludes with findings of the art market labeled as an alternative to more standard investments (good choice for a portfolio diversification) nevertheless the specific intrigues of the said market call for experienced investment personnel.
Collecting of Modern and Contemporary Art in Czech Republic: its Characteristics and Influence on the Art Market.

The thesis discusses current state of Czech market and trade with contemporary and modern art via the phenomenon of collectables. Major emphasis is given to the specifics of both young contemporary art in the context of collecting and trading, and using art as a form of investment. Theoretical part is derived from the limited present literature and describes basic mechanisms and theoretical processes of the art market. Practical part presents a mixture of statistics of art market parameters and interviews with professionals, and poses very concrete constructive questions in relation to investigation of the real manifestation of these processes. The thesis concludes with demonstrating that neither assumptions based on theory nor foreign common practice can be employed (due to numerous aspects) on the Czech market, which can be described as strongly conservative.
