Legitimation of regional airports in the Czech Republic - case study of Pardubice Airport
Valečka, Filip ; Witz, Petr (advisor) ; Vejchodská, Eliška (referee)
This thesis focuses on Czech regional airports and its problematics in relations to public finances. Despite the small country which Czech Republic is, regional airports are common in our regional cities. Mostly are these airports operated by regions and managed by their councils. That means financing from public budgets. First part of my thesis confirms that running these big infrastructure projects is very expensive. Moreover, none of them is profitable. And it is not caused by passing Covid pandemic in the last years. Regional airports are long term loss-making projects. The analytical part discusses about one case study of Pardubice Airport located in the east of Bohemia. Research evaluates a new project of Jan Kašpar Terminal in relation to its legitimacy. But the question is, how to observe legitimacy of public projects? This thesis builds the research on three dimensions of legitimacy inspired by analysis of authors Witz et al. These dimensions are majority, morality and thrust. Outputs are based on content and media analysis. The output is undefended legitimacy as a whole and the project remains questionable, especially because of missing strategy of development, hidden political controversies or inaccurate study which was used for public political decision-making.
The effect of the covid-19 pandemic on the spatial organisation of air transport in Africa.
ZEMAN, Jan
The key topic of this bachelor thesis is the analysis of the spatial organization intracontinental of the air transport in Africa in 2019 and 2020 when it was affected by the covid 19 pandemic. In the introductory part, the bachelor thesis is presented, the objectives of the thesis are set and also hypotheses that will be later confirmed or refuted. The introductory part is followed by the theoretical part where the theory of the air transport is introduced, concepts related to this mode of the transport in general and then concepts that are typical for transport in Africa. In the second part of the thesis is a transition from the theoretical to the analytical part. The analytical part has two subchapters, the first deals with the analysis of the domestic air transport in 2019 when it was not yet limited by the covid 19 pandemic. The second subchapter is 2020 when the covid 19 pandemic has already greatly affected air transport. The data for processing the analysis are from the ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization database. Based on this data, intracontinental air transport was compared between 2019 and 2020 when the covid 19 pandemic was spreading.
The impacts of the covid-19 pandemic on the spatial organization of low-cost air transport in central Europe
SEMERÁDOVÁ, Veronika
The topic of the bachelor thesis is the analysis of the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on the spatial organization of low-cost air transport in Central Europe. The first part is devoted to the theoretical basis, which focuses on the importance of air transport, current trends, deregulation and liberalization of air transport. Then the theoretical part deals with the characteristics of low-cost companies. Last but not least, this section deals with crises that have affected the operation of air transport, such as the covid-19 pandemic. The analytical part is devoted to the analysis of a selected low-cost airline - Ryanair in 2020. The Flightradar24 application was used to obtain data on the number of flights of the company for each month from selected Central European airports. Monthly flight data continue to be compared with the number of newly infected cases in Europe.
The Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on air transport.
ŠIMSOVÁ, Šárka
The thesis deals with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on air transport. The main objective of this work is to identify the impacts and consequences in the field of aviation. Another objective is to evaluate the behavior and willingness of consumers to travel nowadays. Passengers are the most important element of the entire aviation industry process. Their insight into the situation, concerns, and measures in place can have a significant impact on the industry. The questionnaire survey can thus to some extent predict the development and use of air transport. For a better understanding of the issue itself, the work also includes in-depth interviews with flight attendants, who are either still employed or lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic. All inputs are evaluated and used to make key decisions, along with potential recommendations in air transport services.
Dopady pandemie COVID-19 na prostorovou organizaci letecké dopravy
HOLLEROVÁ, Šárka
The main topic in the bachelor's thesis is about the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic in the aviation and airline industry in the first 2 quarters of 2020. The first part is dedicated to the research of literature, describing the airline industry as a whole, its many paths and factors that have an influence on it. In the thesis is mentioned even the negative parts that affected the aviation industry, that had similar impacts like the COVID-19 pandemic itself. The analytic part of the thesis is focused on analyzing aviation data from certain states of the world, mainly from the first 2 quarters of 2019 and comparing them with the other first 2 quarters of 2020, primarily about the amount of passengers and the number of final destinations. The data for the analysis was taken from the International Civil Aviaton Organization (ICAO) that goes by name On-Flight Origin And Destination, that offers information about airline paths all over the globe. The results of the analytic part informs us about the short-term or even maybe long-term global negative consequences for the aviation industry and perhaps drastic changes for the so far calm airline travel.
Effect of noise annoyance on residents near Vaclav Havel Airport
Fuková, Jana ; Čermák, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Lustigová, Michala (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the effect of noise annoyance on residents near Vaclav Havel Airport. Noise is a proven risk to human health, long-term exposure causes for example hearing impairment, sleep disorders, cardiovascular disease or annoyance. This term includes all negative feelings associated with the perception of noise. Noise annoyance can result in bad mood, reduced motivation and performance. Firstly the thesis deals with the negative effects of noise in general, but more attention is paid to traffic noise, with emphasis on air transport. Air transport, which is a very popular mode of transport, is a serious source of noise pollution. And although there has been a sharp drop in air transport demand due to the covid-19 pandemic, it is now possible to see rising demand again and thus a resurgence in noise. The aim of this thesis is to find out what effect noise annoyance from air transport has on the inhabitants of the municipalities surrounding Vaclav Havel Airport. In the practical part, the opinions of residents living near the airport (noise protection zone) will be obtained using a questionnaire survey and then compared with the answers of people from Kladno region as an area further away from the airport and less affected by noise from air transport and airport operations. The...
Globalization and Air Transport: Strategies of Central European Legacy Carriers
Kořený, Petr ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Kopačka, Ludvík (referee)
As the world changes because of the globalization, the environment of the aviation changes as well. The airlines are forced to adapt to these changes and choose new strategies to operate successfully. The main objective of this thesis is to, according to the title, describe, identify and explain the processes which significantly affect current image of the world of aviation and focus on four Central European legacy carriers. The issues of globalization and its affect on behavior of economic actors, which airlines are, are discussed as first. The following part is dedicated to the characteristics of aviation and its components, the milieu and the behavior of the airlines as well as the newest strategic trends that are being chosen is described as well. The theoretical part is followed by the empirical one where the particular steps of examined airlines are analyzed and explained. The hypotheses concerning the probable behavior and adopted strategies of four analyzed carriers are expressed according to the discovered theoretical principles of the operations of current legacy (network) carriers. Whether the hypotheses are completely or partially confirmed, is discussed at the end of the empirical chapter. Key words: globalization, air transport, legacy carriers, airline alliances, hub and spoke, codeshare
Changes Air Transport Industry after Deregulation, Specific Case of Germany
Frühauf, Pavel ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Seidenglanz, Daniel (referee)
The theme of this thesis is the air transport and its dramatic and dynamic development in the last twenty years. The key driving force behind this change was the deregulation of air agreements and liberalization of international markets, which took place in the seventies in the USA and in the nineties in Europe. This work addresses specific and general effects of deregulation and the development of air transport industry and aims to identify and analyze changes of its structures in space and time. One of the major and direct impacts and consequences of deregulation is that the free market allowed the emergence of new low-cost airlines, which significantly changed the structure and trends of air transport. The changes allowed for greater mobility of people, goods and capital, and also caused a partial change in consumer behaviour of individuals and institutions, and even more interconnected global economy. The source of data and information are primarily articles in professional journals written in English. Knowledge from particular analysis and research approaches to air traffic from the first part of this work is confronted with empirical research. This was based on the statistical data of air traffic in Germany, for each airport from 1991 to 2010 and verified the theoretical concepts of the general...
Measuring Air Transport Industry Linkages: Input-Output Analysis
Tax, Tomáš ; Semerák, Vilém (advisor) ; Macháček, Vít (referee)
This thesis examines linkages of the Czech air-transport sector to the rest of the Czech economy using the hypothetical extraction method (HEM) within the input-output analysis. In order to estimate air transport total linkages on the Czech economy together with linkages air transport has with its upstream and downstream industries, three different forms of hypothetical extractions using two input-output models (the Leontief and the Ghosh models) were applied on the World Input-Output Tables (WIOTs). The Leontief model enabled quantification of the total and backward (upstream) linkages, whereas the Ghosh model was used to measure forward (downstream) linkages of air transport. Moreover, upstream and downstream domestic industries, that would be hit the most by the extraction of air transport from the Czech economy, were identified using the corresponding models. The results of the research allow to estimate how the rest of the economy would be affected by the Czech air transport's shutdown (for example due to travel restrictions connected to the Covid-19 pandemic) and help to identify industries hit the most by such industry closure.
Passengers claims in air transport under the Regulation (EC) of the European Parliament and of the Council No. 261/2004
Koudela, Martin ; Zavadilová, Marta (advisor) ; Pfeiffer, Magdalena (referee)
Passengers claims in air transport under the Regulation (EC) of the European Parliament and of the Council No. 261/2004 Abstract The subject of this diploma thesis is the claims of air passengers, especially those arising from Regulation (EC) 261/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council, but also according to other regulations of private international law. The thesis is divided into four parts, which, with regard to the nature of the topic, combine both theoretical and practical aspects. The first part provides an introduction to the issue by setting it in the historical context of civil aviation regulations and then discusses important documents in the field of air passenger rights. In particular, it compares these documents with each other and provides the reader with a practical overview of these documents. The second part deals with the Regulation (EC) 261/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council, which is the central legal regulation of this work. First, the author describes the context and process of adoption of the Regulation and then deals with the individual parts, while supplementing the theoretical interpretation with numerous references to the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union. Subsequently, the circumstances of the ongoing amendment of the Regulation are...
