The importance of myofeedback rehabilitation in faecal incontinence
Černovská, Markéta ; Nováková, Tereza (advisor) ; Neuwirthová, Svatava (referee)
Title: The importance of myofeedback rehabilitation in faecal incontinence Introduction: Faecal incontinence is a serious symptom significantly worsening quality of life. Following results of international studies myofeedback has been considered an effective option of conservative treatment of this disease. Despite that it has so far been used at just a few centres in the Czech Republic. Purpose: The main purpose of this thesis was to assess the relevance of myofeedback as part of recovery therapy. Other objectives included assessment of use of a vaginal electrode instead of an anal one and comparison of the result correlations between examination by anal manometry, surface EMG and subjective improvement of continence for the patients. Methods: The research project included 8 females. The objective method of assessment of effects of the treatment involved examination of pelvis bottom muscles with the help of anorectal manometry and surface EMG. Success of the therapy was evaluated through the St Marks incontinence score and by the test population themselves filling out a quality of life questionnaire. Results: In the course of three-month recovery most patients experienced improvement of subjective as well as objective parameters. The results of the study are comparable to results of international...

ORNAMENT structure and sign
Vancl, Kryštof ; Hůla, Zdenek (advisor) ; Bláha, Jaroslav (referee)
Vancl, K.: Ornament, structure and sign /MA Dissertation/ Prague 2011, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of education, Art education department The MA dissertation Ornament, structure and sign is a thoughts project, which considers its own topic based on philosophical texts from J. Derrida, M. Foucalt and J. Patočka. Ornament as a topic includes its fundamental questions, what is and how ornament appears today. Immanently there is an expression of ornament, which marks an order of repetition and an extensive reference to ornament, which masks his culture and society on the other side. Own project is focused on pass over classicism again, find original and discover new meaning of ornament in a structure and sign. True difference of expression and reference became its own detecting, following by next step to ritual meaning and from hear through ornament as repetition and reproduction sign to being in present until to deeper understanding of my-self in personal structure. Thanks to this knowledge seeing beauty of ornament seems to be more valuable. At last the project of ornament brings also theoretical basement for painting and didactic in art education. Key words: ornament, expression and reference, ritual meaning, structure of repetition, presence, phenomenology

Iron-chelating Properties of Selected Novel Chelators from 4-acyl-5-pyrazolone Group
Matula, Aleš ; Mladěnka, Přemysl (advisor) ; Karlíčková, Jana (referee)
4 ABSTRACT Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology Candidate: Aleš Matula, MSc. Consultant: Dr. Přemysl Mladěnka, Ph.D. Title of Thesis: Iron-chelating properties of selected novel chelators from 4-acyl-5- pyrazolone group Both iron deficiency and iron overload play important roles in the pathophysiology of certain diseases. A suitable therapy in the case of iron overload represents the administration of iron chelators, especially in the treatment of hematological diseases, where the chronic iron overload occurs (a long-term usage of blood transfusions). The application of iron chelators for other diseases (acute myocardial infarction, cancer, etc.) appears as a promising tool as well. The current chelators suffer from a low level of compliance, efficiency, their poor activity in acidic environment or they reduce ferric ions to ferrous ions and that leads to oxidative stress. The subject of this thesis is to verify the iron-chelating properties of selected novel chelators from 4-acyl-5-pyrazolone group by use of UV-VIS spectrophotometric methods. Four compounds have been chosen: benzyl-, phenyl- and thienylderivatives of the basic structure and the derivative marked as H2Q4, which is a double molecule of the basic structure of...

Disordes of speech formation in patients with clefts
Haas, Michal ; Dušková, Markéta (advisor)
The reason for choosing the topic for my thesis is the application of the individual opportunities for communication and exchange of information. Therefore, care about communication disorders one of the priorities of medicine of the 21st century. Also in patients with cleft lip and palate in currently evaluating treatment success based on the quality and extent of speech removing marks from defects in appearance. Cleft lip and palate is one of the most common birth defects (in the Czech Republic on 1 500 births). Their treatment in the Czech Republic has a long tradition associated with the name of academician Frantisek Burian, who many original procedures enriched operational methodology injuries and malformations of the face, especially clefts. In addition to affecting speech has morphological character defect negative functional effects on swallowing, breathing and chewing. Aesthetically it is a facial disability Triangle, which most affects the overall appearance of the face. Full rehabilitation of these patients require multidisciplinary treatment, which starts immediately after birth and continues into adulthood. The complex treatment gradually, depending on the postnatal development, health and growth of the victim, participate in specialized team, which is based plastic surgeon, dentist...

Language recognition performed on a short text sample
Zahornadský, Ján ; Raab, Jan (referee) ; Bejček, Eduard (advisor)
This paper extends the work of Cavnar and Trenkle N-gram text categorization [2], enhances the study of statistics application on document language recognition as simplier variant of categorization. Proposed program shows qualities like modular design or running on one universal character set. As an enhancement of the original work is presented an automatic text sample filtration algorithm altogether with Internet text extraction and iterative improvement for this purpose. Presented paper studies accuracy development, concentrating on short samples. Similar work was not found in available literature, as categorization (and in corollary language recognition) usually assumes long enough input. In conclusion, a discussion about using the learned data and algorithms created here to mark foreign phrases. To be specific, we study the application on Prague Dependency Treebank [8], where the foreign phrases are not recognized, only their occurences specified.

Microdamage of bone tissue is one of important aspects of quality of bone. Marked suppression of bone turnover by bisphosphonates is associated with increased accumulation of bone microdamage in animal models. The purpose of our study was to test the hypothesis that long-term treatment with alendronate (ALN) results in accumulation of microdamage in bone in women after menopause and in that case to impairment of bone quality. In this cross-sectional study, 66 women with postmenopausal osteoporosis (mean age of 68.0 years, mean BMD T-score of - 1.7 at total hip and -2.8 at lumbar spine; 62% with prevalent fractures) were evaluated. Thirtyeight had been treated previously with ALN (10 mg/day for a mean duration of 63.6 months) while 28 were treatment naive (TN). Before initiation of ALN treatment, mean serum PINP, plasma CTX, and OC were significantly increased as compared with reference values in premenopausal women (P< 0.05). After 6 months of ALN treatment, the mean of biochemical bone markers indicated significant suppression of bone remodeling (-70.5%, -84.1%, and - 67.3% for PINP, CTX and OC, respectively; P< 0.05). After 43 months of ALN treatment, markers of degradation and synthesis of type 1 collagen were below the lower limit of normal reference range in 50% of women treated with ALN. Without...

Initial stages of fatigue failure of polycrystalline materials
Man, Jiří ; Petrenec, Martin ; Obrtlík, Karel ; Polák, Jaroslav
Geometry of persistent slip markings (PSMs) formed during cyclic loading of polycrystalline stainless steels and superalloy was studied using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (SEM-FEG). Internal dislocation structure was investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Persistent slip bands with dislocation structure corresponding to the cyclic strain localization were identified and correlated with PSMs observed on the specimen surface.

Chemical communication in field mice of the genus ApodemusApodemus
Obstová, Lucie ; Stopka, Pavel (advisor) ; Vohralík, Vladimír (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with a special sebaceous organ that probably serves as a chemical communication means with four species of Apodemus field mouse - A. flavicollis, A. sylvaticus, A. agrarius and A. microps. This organ is found on the ventral side of a tail, so it is classified as a caudal organ. It consists of significantly enlarged sebaceous glands. It is particularly developed mainly with males; however, both females and infants have it as well. Its morphological structure has the same base regardless of the species, gender, and/or age; however the extent of development varies among species. The organ releases a secretion whose chemical content is unknown so far. Thanks to the gas-liquid chromatography, researchers have found out that there are both variations in the secretion contents among individual species, as well as within the same species. This kind of secretion is basically a characteristic feature of an individual, as it bears information about the species, gender, age and even the population affiliation. Functions of the organ stay unknown as well. It might serve to mark the territory, to play a role in social interactions (i.e. agonistic behaviour) and/or to be an important part of copulatory behaviour.
