Stříteský, Vít ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Mravčík, Viktor (referee)
Background: Substance use also occurs among the elderly and poses an increased risk of various health and social problems in this group. Currently, this specific group is somewhat neglected in addiction studies. In my opinion, seniors are a highly vulnerable group associated with the consumption of addictive substances, and this issue has not been extensively studied in the Czech Republic yet. Objectives: The main goal of this study is to determine which addictive substances are currently used by seniors in Prague and their prevalence. Secondary objectives include determining which sociodemographic and health characteristics affect substance use among seniors, the reasons they use these substances, and their awareness of addiction services. Methods: Given the focus of this study and its objectives, a quantitative approach was chosen for the research. Data was collected using a custom-designed electronic and printed questionnaire as the research tool. Results: The research indicates that seniors in Prague are frequent users of addictive substances. Coffee and alcohol are the most commonly used, followed by the use of medications (such as hypnotics, anxiolytics, and analgesics), cannabis products, and nicotine products. Only a small percentage of respondents reported using other addictive substances...

Bidšovská, Barbora ; Tomášková, Zuzana (advisor) ; Němcová, Alžběta (referee)
The bachelor thesis "Awareness of Newborn Care among Women " is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part deals with four major topics. The first topic describes the physiological development of the newborn and the adaptation of the different organ systems to the extrauterine environment. The second deals with neonatal hygiene and the importance of vernix in the first days of life. Other topics include newborn sleep and comfort. The practical part focuses on the awareness of women in newborn care, using a quantitative questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was distributed online and the responses, obtained from it, were tabulated into graphs and tables. It is focused on the subjective perception of awareness in newborn care and explores problematic areas. The survey found that the majority of women prepare for newborn care before childbirth, and a positive finding is that women are well-informed about newborn care both from the maternity ward and their paediatrician. However, the most common source of information is the internet. Based on the results, it would be useful to improve breastfeeding education. Assistance with newborn care in the first days after birth should also be provided to women with multiple pregnancies who may not remember everything from previous...

Nurses´ awareness of causes of syncopal states
FOUSKOVÁ, Jitka
Introduction: Syncope is a symptom occurring with disorder of the cardiovascular or autonomic nervous system. It is manifested by a transient loss of consciousness caused by insufficient blood supply to the brain, usually it is associated with loss of balance. After regaining consciousness, there is no impairment of neurological function. Syncope occurs at all age categories. A large portion of the population experiences it during their lifetime. It is important for nurses to be familiar with the underlying causes of syncope so that they can be an equal partner to physicians in the diagnosis, treatment and care of such patients. Methodology: The quantitative research method was used to achieve the stated aims. The research was conducted in 4 South Bohemia hospitals with written permission of the head nurses. The results were collected using non standardised questionnaire to measure the level of nurses´ awareness of the causes of syncopal states. The obtained data were analysed and statistically processed using Microsoft Excel 365. Results: The research sample was made up of 242 respondents, which included nurses working in internal, cardiology, neurology, surgery, traumatology, orthopaedic and emergency departments. The results show that nurses do not have sufficient knowledge about causes of syncopal states. Better awareness is among nurses working in internal medicine departments and emergency departments (p = 0,007), nurses with higher education (p = 0,004) and experienced nurses with longer work experience (p = 0,032). Conclusion: The diploma thesis points out the importance of nurses in the care of patients with syncope, from which the need for nurses to be familiar with this issue is also evident. It emphasises the irreplaceable role of nurses in the multidisciplinary team.
