Self-compassion, emotion regulation and alcohol addiction
Bušková, Tereza ; Boukalová, Hedvika (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the topics of self-compassion, emotion regulation, and alcohol addiction. The main goal of the thesis is to analyze the connections among self-compassion, emotion regulation, alcohol addiction, and internalized shame. The empirical part of the thesis has the character of quantitative research. Data collection methods are scales measuring self- compassion, difficulties in emotion regulation, disorders caused by alcohol use, and internalized shame. From the analysis of data collected from 190 respondents, it was found that the level of difficulties in emotion regulation fully mediates the relationship between the level of self-compassion and the level of disorders caused by alcohol use. Furthermore, a statistically significant difference was found in the level of self-compassion, difficulties in regulating emotions, and internalized shame between the groups of short-term and long-term abstinent alcohol addicts. The analysis of the data also shows a statistically significant correlation between the level of self-compassion and the level of internalized shame, between the level of self-compassion and the level of difficulty in regulating emotions, and the level of internalized shame and the level of difficulty in regulating emotions. The level of internalized shame in the...
Empathy, Self-Compassion and Burnout in junior doctors during preparation for a postgraduate specialty
Tobiášová, Kateřina ; Loneková, Katarína (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
Air Bank / interní Abstract Background. The ability to empathize and interact empathetically is considered a key skill for doctors. There is an assumption that helping professions possess a strong capacity for empathy, and junior doctors, in particular, can easily empathize with others. However, recent opinions suggest that, under the pressure of time constraints and administrative burdens, junior doctors are becoming mechanized, devoid of empathy. Empathy involves the ability to understand the inner world of others, and in this context, we are also interested in junior doctors' relationship with themselves. In recent years, the concept of self-compassion has emerged, encompassing how individuals respond to their emotional distress, suffering, or failures, how they cognitively understand them, and the attention they give to these aspects. Self-compassion may represent a healthy form of self-relating, and this study aims to investigate its presence among junior doctors. In the medical work environment, references to burnout are common, suggesting an individual's inability to function fully. This difficulty significantly disrupts the quality of life for junior doctors, resulting in decreased work performance and a decline in the quality of patient care. Given the high pressure for perfectionism and the...
Job crafting in organizational practice.
Stodola, Adam ; Šípová, Ivana (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
The main aim of this bachelor thesis is to introduce an overview and description of the concept of job crafting and thus contribute to bringing this phenomenon deeper into the awareness of Czech psychologists and the public. In the theoretical part, the main models and definitions of job crafting, its opposition, different forms and case studies are presented. These case studies are designed to bridge the gap between concept and practice. Benefits and possible difficulties of job crafting are also included in the theoretical part. The research framework provides a possible methodological approach for a qualitative study that would bring some insight into the manifestations of job crafting in a more practical form. Its main added value is to focus on specific displays of job crafting in occupations that are demanding mentally and physically. The eventual application of this research design would clarify what forms of job crafting occur in terms of the above-mentioned categories within the Czech population. Thus, it could contribute to follow-up research of possible interventions, which use job crafting as a tool for improving mental health in the work process. Key words: job crafting, occupation, well-being, practical forms, work health
The Use of Victim-Offender Mediation in Working with Juvenile Delinquents
Vondráčková, Viktorie ; Faberová, Karolína (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
Bachelor thesis explores the topic of victim-offender mediation. Its aim is to summarise theoretical and practical possibilities of using this method, its psychological potential and possible benefits and limits in relation to juvenile delinquents. The first part of the thesis consists of a literature review. First, it introduces a psychological profile of a juvenile delinquent from the viewpoint of Czech criminal law and developmental psychology. It also examines the occurrence of criminal behaviour in adolescence and its risk factors. Moreover, the concept of psychosocial maturity and its connection to antisocial behaviour is outlined. Apart from this, the thesis also deals with the concept of restorative justice and practical application of restorative programmes. The method of victim-offender mediation is described in detail and with special regard to juveniles. The text further discusses the psychological impact of mediation as well as its efficiency in dealing with crime. In the second part of the thesis, a theoretical research project is proposed. It attempts to determine whether juvenile's level of psychosocial maturity plays a role in mediation. A new approach to the assessment of efficacy of mediation is also established using attitude change as its indicator. Key words: juvenile...
Effect of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Emotional Regulation in Patients with Insomnia
Soukupová, Linda ; Janků, Karolina (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
This diploma thesis firstly introduces the topic of insomnia, models of its aetiology and treatment, with particular emphasis on emotional regulation. Main aim of the empirical part is to assess the effect of cognitive-behavioural therapy on emotional regulation in adult patients dealing with insomnia, because this psychological construct has been mostly overlooked in the context of treatment. The present pilot study observes the level of subjectively reported difficulties in emotional regulation in a group of insomniacs before and after undergoing psychotherapeutic intervention in comparison with control group with treatment as usual. The results show no significant effect of cognitive-behavioural therapy on reduction of difficulties in emotional regulation. Limits and implication of this study for future research are discussed. Key words: insomnia; cognitive-behavioural therapy; emotional regulation
Mindfulness and Posttraumatic Growth
Telíšková, Lucie ; Tichotová, Sylvie (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
This thesis aims to describe the association between mindfulness, aspects of mindfulness and posttraumatic growth. Another objective of this thesis is to present possible mechanisms of the association between mindfulness and posttraumatic growth. This thesis also presents the results of studies focusing on the effect of mindfulness-based interventions on the level of posttraumatic growth. Most studies have found a positive association between mindfulness and posttraumatic growth. However, due to the varying results of the studies, it is not possible to determine how exactly are posttraumatic growth and individual aspects of mindfulness related. Based on conducted studies, deliberate rumination, positive reappraisal and self- compassion have been proposed as possible mechanisms of the association between mindfulness and posttraumatic growth. The proposed research builds on the results of studies that report a positive effect of mindfulness-based interventions on posttraumatic growth. The first objective of the proposed research is to verify these results on a sample of participants from the Czech Republic. The proposed research includes a mediation analysis, which aims to detect whether the proposed positive effect of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program on posttraumatic growth is...

The effect of Mental Health Awareness training for managers on the psychological capital of their people.
Lofajová, Dorota ; Šípová, Ivana (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
This thesis explores the role of leaders in the mental health care of employees. The theoretical part introduces leadership and its theories, describes different approaches to mental health in the workplace. It further presents health-oriented leadership, which is closely related to the mental health of subordinates, and presents the possibility of its development through Mental Health Awareness Training. It then discusses psychological capital, its importance in the context of health and organisations, and the possibility of development. The aim of the empirical part was to test whether Mental Health Awareness Training for leaders significantly increases the psychological capital of their subordinates and further to find out whether Mental Health Awareness Training for leaders significantly reduces their level of mental health stigma in the workplace. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of repeated measures was used to test the hypotheses. Tukey's correction was used for post-hoc tests. The results show that Mental Health Awareness Training for leaders does not significantly increase the psychological capital of their subordinates. Further, Mental Health Awareness Training for leaders does not significantly increase their psychological capital, but there was a significant increase in psychological...
Management's role in supporting occupational health
Semeráková, Denisa ; Šípová, Ivana (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to explore and qualitatively describe the role of the manager in supporting occupational health. The first chapter of the theoretical part presents the concept of mental health in the workplace. Subsequently JD-R theory is introduced and then integrated into the IGLO model, based on which the individual, group, leader and organizational levels can be used as a classification framework for job demands and resources. A multi-level approach to mental health promotion is then presented. The second chapter highlights the importance of the manager's role in supporting workplace mental health, outlines health-oriented leadership, and manager development opportunities. The aim of the empirical part was to explore, through a qualitative design, how managers promote and conversely undermine mental health in the workplace from the perspective of their subordinates. The research sample consists of ten focus groups with employees, in total 87 people participated, two companies were included. The data was analyzed using the grounded theory method in NVivo. This work is part of the European H-WORK project. The research findings highlight the crucial role of managers who significantly impact employee mental health by providing adequate support and resources, fostering a positive work...
Mindfulness and couching
Běrská, Kristina ; Loneková, Katarína (advisor) ; Zernerová, Lucie (referee)
This thesis focuses on mindfulness and ways to develop it - both standardized (MBCT-L) and non-standardized (non-mindfulness based individual coaching). The thesis focuses primarily on the general, non-clinical population. In the theoretical part, it describes the concept of mindfulness using definitions and individual components. It also lists various positive benefits of mindfulness, including potential benefits for coaches. In the empirical part, it was quantitatively investigated whether coaching increases mindfulness in clients and how it compares to the standardized mindfulness development method MBCT-L. Participants in both MBCT-L and individual coaching showed significantly higher mindfulness after the interventions. The MBCT-L intervention had a very large effect on mindfulness (d = 2.01), and the coaching intervention had a large effect (d = 0.95). Coaching significantly increased mindfulness across all scales of the FFMQ except the Non-judgmental scale, with the most support for the Observing scale (d = 0. 88). The result of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that MBCT-L was significantly better than coaching in increasing mindfulness (F1,33 = 4.34, p = 0.045, ηšp = 0.116) at the α = 0.05 level of significance. Although MBCT-L increased mindfulness more, coaching also had a positive...
