Jaroslav Böhm and Niederle's concept of the State Institute of Archaeology

The establishment of the State Institute of Archaeology is connected with the extraordinary personality of Lubor Niederle, its founder and first director, who formulated the concept of the scientific work of the new institution. It started operating in the early 1920s and in the first decade of its existence faced serious financial and personnel problems that limited its activities. Since the 1930s, Jaroslav Böhm, director of the State Institute of Archaeology since 1939, devoted himself to the fulfillment of Niederle's concept. His goal was to build the institute as a modern institution that would stand at the forefront of Czechoslovak archaeology. After the incorporation of the State Institute of Archaeology into the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1953, Jaroslav Böhm focused on consolidating its position as a center for scientific and research work. He was largely responsible for the fact that the Institute of Archaeology ranked at the top of the field on an international scale in the first two post-war decades.
Convenience goods advertising in daily press and film advertising in interwar Czechoslovakia

The submitted bachelor thesis traces the development of advertising strategies of companies oriented to the production and sale of fast-moving consumer goods by analyzing their advertising production in selected daily press and animated and live-action advertising films available to Czechoslovak consumers in the interwar period. It traces the quantity of promotional messages and development trends in their placement on the basis of an analysis of contemporary periodicals. In terms of the content of promotional messages, it analyses the common linguistic and visual motifs used to communicate with customers. The thesis highlights the advantages of selected media for the purpose of influencing customers and their consumption habits. The findings of the thesis enable an assessment of the standard of promotion of convenience goods in Czechoslovakia in terms of implementation of contemporary progressive trends popularized by Czechoslovak advertising theorists, as well as its position within an international context. Prague underworld and its image in the mass culture between the world wars

Pražská galerka a její obraz v masové kultuře mezi světovými válkami Anna Jagošová Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the issue of the phenomenon of the so-called Prague galerka. This thesis tries to answer the questions of how the Prague galerka was perceived by the public at that time, how this group perceived itself and who belonged to it. This issue is examined through the mass media - film, periodicals, through the prism of police commissioners and their memories, and if possible due to the materials obtained, also through the prism of individual members of the Prague galerka. In the theoretical part, it is defined what the Prague galerka is, what are its significant features and who is part of it. The practical part mainly works with film, periodicals and commemorative monographs as sources and documents of the time. The location being monitored is Prague, and the topic of the work is defined primarily by the period between the world wars. Jan Eisner and the beginnings of Czech professional archaeology

Archaeologist Jan Eisner was working in Slovakia for 20 years (1919-1939). He led many rescue and systematic field researches and turned great attention to the protection of monuments in Slovakia. He is considered to have been a teacher of the first generation of Slovak archaeologists.
Supplying and Grocery Stores in Prague between the Two World Wars

The roots of Prague modernization process and traditional custom changes of Prague citizens can be found at the turn of the 20th century. The city founded new supplying institutions, the level of supervision of food quality and hygienic conditions of sale increased and new forms of selling pushed through. This process was interrupted by World War I. After the war ended and the new republic was formed, the City of Prague tried to return to pre-war traditional and reliable means of supplying and trade. However, only the foundation and development of Greater Prague encouraged the continuation and acceleration of the process of modernization and rationalization of city and grocery store supplying. At the same time as efforts to respond to the obsolescence and inflexibility of the existing store network the development of new forms of commerce emerged rapidly. Modern advertising was experiencing a massive boom and was using a number of new technologies in advertising campaigns. These changes affected the daily lives of the people of Prague. In the period between the two world wars customs and stereotypes began to change slowly, and also the consumption patterns of the people of Prague, which reflected in the changing of shopping habits within the Prague store network.
