Commercial suburbanization in the hinterland of Prague: edge city
Nemeškal, Jiří ; Ouředníček, Martin (advisor) ; Seidenglanz, Daniel (referee)
The topic of the diploma thesis is commercial suburbanization and its relation to concept Edge city. The main objectives of the thesis are an analysis of development of commercial activities in Prague and its hinterland, evaulation of current development of commercial activities on area of Prague airport and prediction of future possibilities of development and comparison of Prague airport with a concept Edge city. First chapters deal with theoretical questions of the suburbanization and Edge city. Next chapter defines the locality of interest - Václav Havel Airport Prague. The tool used for this is development analysis of commercial activities of Prague metropolitan area. In the case study there are analyzed commercial activities at Prague airport and its hinterland and the premises for the future development. Based on this study the locality is compared with concept Edge city. For this purpose are used criteria according Joel Garreau and following concepts and sources. Although the chosen locality is not real Edge city, it is possible to find some similarities typical for its initial phase. Long-term development of Edge cities in the USA shows the possible threats and provides with learnings for the chosen locality like for instance rebuilding or conflict with residential suburbanization.
Changes Air Transport Industry after Deregulation, Specific Case of Germany
Frühauf, Pavel ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Seidenglanz, Daniel (referee)
The theme of this thesis is the air transport and its dramatic and dynamic development in the last twenty years. The key driving force behind this change was the deregulation of air agreements and liberalization of international markets, which took place in the seventies in the USA and in the nineties in Europe. This work addresses specific and general effects of deregulation and the development of air transport industry and aims to identify and analyze changes of its structures in space and time. One of the major and direct impacts and consequences of deregulation is that the free market allowed the emergence of new low-cost airlines, which significantly changed the structure and trends of air transport. The changes allowed for greater mobility of people, goods and capital, and also caused a partial change in consumer behaviour of individuals and institutions, and even more interconnected global economy. The source of data and information are primarily articles in professional journals written in English. Knowledge from particular analysis and research approaches to air traffic from the first part of this work is confronted with empirical research. This was based on the statistical data of air traffic in Germany, for each airport from 1991 to 2010 and verified the theoretical concepts of the general...
Prague underground stations as local development impuls
Bugris, Vojtěch ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Seidenglanz, Daniel (referee)
The effects of rail rapid transit, especially metro, on land uses and land values are frequentelly discussed. Rail transit can enhance accessibility, and can raise the demand for locating in areas around stations, increasing land value and in many cases fostering new development and redevelopment at higher densities. A series of studies on the effect of rail transit on local development are reviewed. Featuring a considerably higher combination of passenger volume and speed per unit of travelway space than any other mode, metros are able to sustain a correspondingly high level of corridor activity, and are also conducive to polynuclear urban development patterns. In that they have far more passenger carrying capacity per unit track width, in combined volume-speed terms, than any other urban transport mode, metros permit far higher development densities than other modes, as well as allow cities to expand spatially while staying within reasonable travel time envelopes. Using accessiable data, the effects of Prague's metro lines on local development are determined. Results show, that metro stations affecting the accessibility of urban areas, urban structure, land prices around the stations and the locatization of offices and shopping centers. Key words: metro, public transport, development, accessibility, land...
Spatial differentiation of transport supply in Czechia: conditional factors and transport interactions

Accessibility and Impact of its Changes in Czechia during the Transformation Period: Relation to Settlement System
Hudeček, Tomáš ; Marada, Miroslav (advisor) ; Voženílek, Vít (referee) ; Seidenglanz, Daniel (referee)
-,.r ruaus. Selecteil resulls In compliance with the majority of foreign studies, thc research pointed out that lower hierarchical level means smaller impact of accessibility and its changes. e.g. the case study of Prague. New infiastructure hacl the biggest irnpact on the national level. 'l'[re impact on the interregional level was smaller and on the rnicro-regional level was hardly noticeable. It has also been provcd that irnpact of new infrastructure does not show immediately but with delay. This can bc seen primarily in tl're ce ntres connected to the D | , D5 and D8 lrighways wlriclr started operating at various tirnes bcťore 200 | . Thc situation presurnecl on the basis of the gravitational ntodel thus acquires an element of imbalance in the fbrrn of new or reccnt i n frastrttctttre. Variance of irnpact of changes which accessibility of interregional centres has on their irnportance was proved using the dominancc irrdicator. Good tranSport accessibility oť a hierarchically superior centre leads to its higher dominance within its background. Horvever, good accessibility is not perceived absolutely. It is a relative concept. ČeskéBudějovice and Zlín are quite isolated centres. [t has been proved that in order to strengthen their impact in their subordinate region it is il essential that the influence of...
