The Employ of the Gothic Novel in Czech Prose of the First Half of the 20th Century: analogies and variations of the genre.
Petrová, Zuzana ; Činátlová, Blanka (advisor) ; Mravcová, Marie (referee)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to define the genre of the English gothic novel, a historically-conditioned phenomenon, which is revived whenever a specific cultural and social situation occurs. The presence of the genre in the Czech prose of the first half of the twentieth century is traced and discovered in the works of Vítězslav Nezval and Jiří Karásek ze Lvovic. Along with the inspiration drawn from the gothic novel goes the literary background particular for each author - surrealism (Nezval) and decadence (Karásek). Despite the gothic novel balancing on the edge of the trivial, its position in the literary tradition has been stable for several hundreds of years. It has affected many other genres which have carried on its tradition until today.

This diploma thesis examines the Czech expression copak and its translation counterparts. It focuses on the individual functions and meanings of copak and the ways these are expressed in the English translation. The aim of the present paper is to determine to what extent the discourse meanings of copak as a particle are maintained in the translations and what means English uses to do so. Regarding the pronominal function of copak, the main issue is to examine whether the postfix -pak is reflected in the English translations or not and what equivalents are used in comparison to the forms without the postfix. Another objective is to analyse the English counterparts according to their formal representation and define their discourse functions in respect to the discourse meanings of the Czech originals containing copak. The research carried out in the present thesis was based on material drawn from the parallel corpus InterCorp. A total of 240 examples with the expression copak was excerpted with the English translations aligned to them. The analysis was divided into five parts, according to the particular word class of copak. Particles proved to be the most productive word class, as they provided 187 examples and 25 different translation counterparts, negative question being the most frequent one. The...
Choosen indicators of lifestyle nurses
PETROVÁ, Zuzana
The actual situation: Nurses are considered to be some model in the society for health, so it is important, how their lifestyle is like. Lifestyle is the tool, which is able to direct human life to health and prosperity. But also it can easily become the source of selfdefeating, suffering and disease. Nurses are forced to face very hard conditions at their work, which are connected with it. The purpose of the research: The aim of this research was to describe selected indicators in the lifestyle of nurses. The sub-target was to evaluate the keeping of the rational eating principles by nurses, describe their free time activities, evaluate the abidance of regeneration principles, identify the presence of harmful factors in their lifestyle and consider their active interest in their participation in the improving of lifestyle. Methodology: The practical part was realized by the quantitative method and the research was carried out in February 2015 for it was used online questionnaire. There was intentional choice. The questionnaire for nurses was created on the basis of study reference books and personal interest in this field. It included identifiers, questions focused on the interest and individual activity in healthy lifestyle (education, water intake and eating, the field of supplement, recovery and sleep, but also harmful factors). The number of 219 questionnaires was evaluated, which complied with criteria of the research. The program Nutrifa was used then to describe sub aspects of nurses´ lifestyles. The data gained by the quantitative research were tested in program SPSS, khi-quadrat and marking scheme were used for statistical testing. The level of importance was determined on the number of 5 %. Exploratory sample: The exploratory sample consisted of nurses. The web for nurses, osetrovatelstvi.info was asked for the purposes of the research. From the data gained 219 questionnaires were used, which complied with criteria of the research. Results: It results from the research that the nurses are interested in active improving lifestyle, but the reconciliation of their personal and professional life with the healthy lifestyle is not optimal at the moment. Nurses aren´t seeking education in the field of healthy lifestyle too much and it is not clear from the results if the higher level of education has some important influence in this area among them. In the field of healthy eating some efforts in keeping the rational eating principles were noticed, but the indepth research did not confirm that. The research proved nurses eat few fruit, vegetable and fresh products (non-heated products), not only in the field of supplement there was not observed the intention to compensation. There is also a decrease in water intake noticed in the results. It is clear from the research that nurses do not invest too much time in physical free time activities, also the field of regeneration and the usage of another recovery methods than sleep, are not too widespread among nurses. After the deficit of night sleep only one quarter of nurses sleeps in dark. By reason of these results it is not surprise that many nurses describe they feel tired. Positive field in the nurses´ lifestyles is the low presence of negative factors (smoking and alcohol). Conclusion: The research showed that the nurses´ lifestyle matters have much undeveloped potential and there are things to improve, so nurses can become good models for health in the society.
