TITLE: Teaching Syntax to Lower Junior Secondary School Pupils between the years 1918−1939 AUTHOR: PhDr. Alena Novotná DEPARTMENT: Czech Language Department SUPERVISOR: doc. PhDr. Martina Šmejkalová, Ph. D. ABSTRACT: The thesis deals with teaching of syntax in language education at lower secondary schools between the years 1918−1939. It verifies to what extent the education was affected by social, pedagogical, didactic and linguistic factors. It analyzes the presentation of syntax in contemporary prescriptive grammar books, monitors how much syntax was implemented in the contemporary curriculum for lower secondary schools and it also focuses on the syntactic topics presented by methodological manuals for students of teaching and teachers. In particular, this thesis examines how the authors of the Czech Language textbooks, for lower secondary school pupils, presented the syntactic topics. The surveys have shown that syntax was, in this period, the focus of attention of: linguists, educationalists and methodists. Syntax was an integral part of language teaching and was properly presented in their textbooks. The surveys have shown that we can use many parts of these textbooks as high-quality sources of inspiration. For a declension (inflection, declination) of Czech nouns is typical a richness of inflexional types and their endings. They either mark strongish a homonymy (e.g . type outhouse/'staveni), or a synonymic. Through their positional final variants (allomorphics) are generated a synonymic endings doublet forms (formative variants). A description of distribution these variant endings is in Czech morphological interesting and doctrinal task. Namely above all therefore, we learn to understand especially specification a literary language at school. Then we have to keep it as much as is possible, because we have a sense of responsibility to our literary language norm. Don't being wanted to break its, we are obliged think about it, which one of endings is literary, if need be are not literary already both of them. Since the Gebauer's date to contemporary The Hand Grammar Czech (Příruční mluvnice češtiny) enter to the games at classification these endings a philological interventions. They evaluated these endings and described its on the axes correct - wron or literary - non-literary. Off at the same time no-stays nor a look dialectological. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Relation of standard and substandard Czech in the newspaper writing style of a sports interview
Ouředník, Jan ; Kvapilová Brabcová, Radoslava (advisor) ; Vybíral, Petr (referee)
The aim of this work has been to prove the presence of non-literary (substandard Czech) phenomena in the newspaper writing style of a sports interview. Furthermore, it has been to inform the readers about what is characteristic for this genre and what are the specifics of interviews with Lukáš Pollert. Last but not least, I considered it important to explain the term substandard Czech, mention its most typical elements and how it has developed during several decades. I have reached the conclusion that the texts of the interviews vary greatly with respect to the language, even though I have completely disregarded their lexical aspect. Regarding the standard and substandard phonetic and morphological level, it seems that authors have the idea that some forms of substandard Czech are also an equal part of the written style, which should basically correspond to the rules of standard language, as their standard counterparts. And their informality, casualness and spontaneity consist just in this fact. However, this should not present an inconvenience to a consistent usage of only standard, and now even considered as literary, forms in some cases. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
