Home Assessment from the View of Occupational Therapy. Subtitle: A Survey among Occupational Therapists from the Czech Republic and Abroad on Home Assessments and Home Visits
Rohlenová, Eva ; Rodová, Zuzana (advisor) ; Krulová, Anna (referee)
Home assessment is an important part of occupational therapy intervention. It can help improve patients' quality of life in many ways: lower the risk of falls, improve their self-dependence, increase participation etc. Despite that, there is little information about home assessment in Czech literature. There is no overview of home assessment tools nor any study summarizing information about current home assessment practice. The main goal of this thesis was to explore home assessment and home visit practice in the Czech republic using a questionaire-based survey among Czech occupational therapists. The results were to be compared to data gathered from foreign respondents. Theoretical part discusses the topic of the thesis iand presents information on home assessment tools. Chosen ones are described in detail (Cougar, WeHSA, Housing Enabler, SEMAFOR home). Practical part summarizes the results of the questionaire using tables, graphs and statistical analysis. Data from 144 Czech and 135 foreign respondents was gathered and analysed. Research hypotheses were that the majority of Czech occupational therapists don't do home visits and don't evaluate home environment using existing home assessment tools. Furthermore, foreign occupational therapists were expected to perform home visits and use existing...

A large part of the thesis deals with the history of Frenchay arm test and its modification - Modified Frenchay scale. The theoretical part also contains a description of the phases and types of grasp, some of which can be observed during the assessment with Modified Frenchay scale. The practical part consists of a questionnaire mapping the situation in the institutions in the Czech republic, that use the Modified Frenchay scale in their practice, and of two case reports of patients after stroke. Examinations and evaluations of spasticity, including Modified Frenchay scale, which are described in the theoretical part, are applied in these case reports. The practical part also contains an evaluation of inter-rater reliability of the Modified Frenchay scale. The main contribution of this thesis consists in creating a handbook for Modified Frenchay scale and in evaluating the inter-rater reliability. The handbook...

Occupational therapy within interprofessional collaboration in community - based rehabilitation for people after brain damage
Ptaková, Silvie ; Krulová, Anna (advisor) ; Rodová, Zuzana (referee)
As a result of rapid development in Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care the patients with brain damage have better chances of surviving than they had in the past. However the survivors need to deal with severe loss of function and consequences resulting from that. An excellent primary care for patients who suffer from strok is provided in Czech Republic, the rehabilitation on the other hand is insufficient. The main problem is an absence of continuity of care which leads to aneffective outcomes and increase of total costs of treatment The purpose of this diploma theses was to evaluate the possibilities of occupational therapist of interprofessional collaboration in community based rehabilitation - in client's home environment. There are several categories of brain damage including acquired brain injury, genetic brain disorders and brain damage acquired during labor. The goal was to detect basic deficient fields. Results of this thesis based on knowledge from foreign literature as well as own experiencis in the team. Results might be used as basis for designed guidelines to improve situation. One client with degenerative brain disorder and five with acquired brain injury which live in home environment were selected. This diploma thesis deals with monitoring the movement of the upper limbs in patients after acquired brain injury using an accelerometer. The diploma thesis is processed from the perspective of occupational therapy. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and practical part. The main objective of the theoretical part is to collect specialist literature about monitoring the movement of the upper limbs by accelerometer in rehabilitation, especially in the occupational therapy. The practical part of the thesis has three objectives. The first objective is to find out whether monitoring of the upper limbs using the accelerometer in patients after acquired brain injury will lead to an objective improvement of the activity of daily living (ADL) in the areas of eating, washing and dressing. The second objective is to find out whether monitoring of the upper limbs using the accelerometer in patients after acquired brain injury will lead to subjective improvement in the same ADLs, and the third objective is to compare whether objective and subjective improvement is related. The practical part was prepared in the form of pilot studies. Quantitative research was used, specifically the type of pre-experiment - One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The study included 14 patients after acquired brain injury. The...
