Measuring the performance of academic libraries and the impact of the measuring on improving the quality of services Abstract The topic of the dissertation thesis is performance measurement in academic libraries. Measuring the performance of libraries is essential for their effective management, and it can also be used in the design and improvement of their processes and services. Statistics are the basis for measuring the performance of libraries. In the environment of university libraries, there was a need to revise the entire data collection process. The main goal of the dissertation was therefore to prepare a new annual report template for the Association of Libraries of Czech Universities, which would reflect the current needs of university libraries, and to propose a system of statistics for the collection of statistical data, which would take place in an online environment. A partial goal was to prepare a code of conduct for the system. The work is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part, the issue of measuring library performance and its use in practice is presented, and existing quality standards and various research methods used to monitor library performance are described. The impact of regional roles on activities of served libraries in the Pardubice region

The bachelor thesis deals with the satisfaction of the served libraries with the performance of regional roles in the Pardubice region and the impact of these roles on their independent activities. The first, purely theoretical part, summarizes the objectives and principles of the regional roles and their financing in the Czech Republic. The following subchapter discusses the performance and financing of the regional roles in the Pardubice Region in the years 2014-2018. The second, research, part of the work is based on the results of a qualitative survey. The survey was conducted in the form of interviews with the representatives of six libraries in the Pardubice region. The interviews aim at verification of the current state of regional roles performed by the region, the level of utilization of services and overall satisfaction of the individual libraries with the provided services. The conclusion provides not only the findings from the theoretical and research parts, mutual comparison of theory and real practice on the example of the publicly presented information but also the results of the interviews conducted with the librarians of the served libraries. Satisfaction and Potential of Strahov Library The content of the thesis is a complete analysis of the potential of the Strahov Monastery Library. In the theoretical part I will outline the history of libraries and librarianship, which is supplemented by the history of monastic libraries in Europe and The Royal Canonry of Premonstratensians at Strahov. In detail, the reader is acquainted with the history of the library and then focuses on the libraries of the Theological and Philosophical, the Cabinet of Curiosities and the Department of Geographic Atlases. Another part is the satisfaction of library users - why we find it and what threats can occur. In the practical part I will set the research question, which is the satisfaction of users and the potential of the Strahov Monastery Library using a questionnaire. I set hypothetical questions that will later be confirmed or disproved from the questionnaire. Everything is completed with a SWOT analysis of the Strahov Monastery Library with own suggestions and ideas for improving the current situation in the library. Impact of Web Scale Discovery Services in Academic Libraries

This diploma thesis discusses a modern concept of information retrieval and search engines for libraries and other academic institutions. The concept named "web scale discovery" comprises of search engines, whose main characteristics lie in simplicity and user friendliness for the end users while maintaining all functional qualities of traditional research databases. Users can search in a wide variety of international research databases, and also in local sources of an institution that are combined within a large central index. The theoretical section presents definitions of web scale discovery, which conceptually set the new method of information retrieval within the field of information and library science. A graphic scheme of the basic functionality of a web scale discovery system is presented. Also discussed are requirements for a modern discovery system, an overview of the current situation in the Czech Republic, and a short characteristic of commercially available discovery systems. The theoretical part concludes with a literature review of selected foreign research, studying user satisfaction with the new solution, the impact on electronic and print resources in libraries, and usability testing. Primárně se bude věnovat automatické tvorbě citací bez nutnosti vyplňování údajů. Budou představeny vybrané funkce a nástroje systému Citace.com a Citace PRO (importy z katalogu, ISBN, DOI, citační lišta do Firefoxu a plugin do Wordu).
