Social Services in the Czech Republic and the Role of Public Institutions in their Provision
Bareš, Pavel ; Veselý, Arnošt (advisor) ; Kozlová, Lucie (referee) ; Matoušek, Oldřich (referee)
BAREŠ, P. 2013. Social Services in the Czech Republic and the Role of Public Institutions in their Provision. Doctoral Thesis. Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Social Science, Institute of Sociological Studies: Prague. Key words: Czech Republic, municipalities, non-governmental organisations, providers of social services, public administration, public policy, regions, social services, state Abstract: Social services should be perceived as important instrument of the system of social protection in the Czech Republic. The extent of provision of social services by organisation representing different institutional sectors should be considered as key characteristics of this system. Two main groups of organisations should be distinguished in this regard primarily - public and private organisations. However both these broad categories consist of different subjects: state, regional or municipal organisations in the first case and for-profit organisations, entrepreneurs, social enterprises or non-profit organisations in the second. The primary aim of the thesis is to analyse the extent of provision of social services by public organisations (all above mentioned types), however the provision of social services by private organisations has been analysed as well, because this question is complementary to the...
The Role of Health Social Worker and Non-Medical Patient
Burgerová, Michaela ; Fischer, Ondřej (advisor) ; Kozlová, Lucie (referee)
This thesis describes the role of health-social worker and non-medical patient. The main objective of this work is to explore possibilities and ways in which the profession of health-social worker may be enhanced so as to be able to effectively fulfill its mandate to help the non-medical patient in the broadest sense. The research part is focused on interviews with four health-social workers and six non-medical patients, then the practice in a particular medical device. The practical part is to obtain an empirical basis for this work. The work highlights the need to address the situation of non-medical patient and the role of health-social workers at various levels to ensure the work of health-social worker be due to non-medical patients effectively, reduce the number of medical facilities and non-medical patients still remained an autonomous person. Keywords health-social worker, non-medical patient, senior, causes of hospitalizations of nonmedical patients, disability, long-term care, medical equipmen
Possible influencing the motor performance of developing rats by repeated administration of the NMDA receptor antagonist specific for NR2 subunit
Kozlová, Lucie ; Mareš, Pavel (advisor) ; Valeš, Karel (referee)
Nonspecific NMDA receptor antagonists induce hyperlocomotion in rats. The aim of this work is to determine whether the NMDA receptor antagonist specific for NR2 subunit exhibit similar negative effect as nonspecific antagonists. This subunit is predominant in the brain in the early postnatal period. The introduction summarizes the data on NMDA receptors and the development of rat. The experimental part deals with the action of a specific NMDA receptor antagonist Ro 25-6981 on motor performance of developing rats. Substance was repeatedly administered to rats at postnatal days 7 to 11. Spontaneous locomotion and motor performance of the animals were repeatedly tested up to adulthood by battery of tests appropriate for individual ages. Our research demonstrated that this substance does not have significant effect on motor system of laboratory rat and that it might be further tested as a possible age-bound antiepileptic drug.
A Permanent or Temporary Change? The Arrangement of Gender Roles in Families with Caring Fathers
Maříková, Hana ; Buriánek, Jiří (advisor) ; Kozlová, Lucie (referee) ; Kuchařová, Věra (referee)
1 Abstract: In her dissertation thesis, the author concentrates on the phenomenon of 'caring fathers'. Her primary goal was not to explicate the transformations of fatherhood but to explore whether direct and daylong childcare provided by the father leads to the elimination of gender inequalities in the family during the period when the father is involved in childcare as the primary care provider or co-provider as well as during the immediately following period when he returns to the labour market. This issue is a less explored one in Czech sociology and related sciences than the first topic even as fathers' participation in childcare and child education is considered to be one of the ways to challenge cultural and social inequalities between genders. In her work the author aims to answer the question whether in families where fathers are involved in childcare in the early stages of the child's life, gender inequalities in the family are disrupted or whether this situation constitutions a mere modification of the status quo. She asks when gender equality in families occurs (or can occur) and what the relationship is between gender equality in the family and gender inequality in larger society. The study is based on a specifically designed qualitative research study carried out in 2006 and in 2009 through...

Ecotoxicological study of fluoroquinolone antibiotics mixture on algae
Kozlová, Lucie ; Vytlačilová, Jitka (advisor) ; Jahodář, Luděk (referee)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Pharmaceutical Botany and Ecology Candidate: Mgr. Lucie Kozlová Supervisor: RNDr. Jitka Vytlačilová, Ph.D. Title of rigorous thesis: Ecotoxicological study of fluoroquinolone antibiotics mixture on algae This thesis is focused on ecotoxicological risk assessment of two fluoroquinolone antibiotics - ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin. A growing test with algae Desmodesmus subspicatus was performed based on the OECD Guidelines n. 201 for testing of chemical substances on freshwater algae and cyanobacteria. The aim of this test was to determine the influence of individual substances and their mixtures in various ratios (1:1, 1:2 and 2:1) on green algae. The test was ended by EC50 evaluation after 72 hours. Only some of the mixture appeared to be more toxic than a single substance. Theoretical calculation of mixtures toxicity has been performed and compared with the experimentally obtained data. All EC50 values obtained significantly exceed the concentration of substances in the environment reported in the literature. Keywords: ecotoxicology, ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, Desmodesmus subspicatus, mixtures
