Intonation characteristics of longer utterances in Czech

Výzkum intonace se těší velkému zájmu již od druhé poloviny 20. století. Jednou příčinou je intenzivní rozvoj počítačové techniky a softwaru, který poskytuje stále přesnější metody měření a umožňuje použití stále větších množství dat. Díky tomu se lze věnovat jak zpřesňování dřívějších výsledků nebo jejich konfrontaci se současným stavem (např. Jašová 2001; Hedbávná 2002), tak výzkumu voblastech, kde dřívější metody selhávaly, kde měření bylo příliš pracné nebo kde nebylo možné provést měření na systematicky uspořádaném a dostatečně velkém materiálu. K posledně jmenované problematice chce přispět tato práce. Druhou příčinou zvýšeného zájmu o výzkum intonace je rozmach komunikačních technologií a široká oblast jejich využití (např. automatická hlášení v telekomunikacích, hlasové ovládání některých funkcí vautomobilech a mluvící navigační systémy, v neposlední řadě pak software pro zrakově postižené). Současná situace tedy zdánlivě poskytuje vhodné nástroje i motivaci právě k zjišťování nových informací (nejen) o suprasegmentální stránce jazyka. Jak uvádí Volín (2004, 5), "málokdo věří v možnost vyvíjet dokonalejší syntetizéry nebo rozpoznávače řeči bez výzkumu intonace." Duration of syllabic liquids in Czech

This thesis brings basic data on duration of syllabic liquids r and l in Czech. The experiment measured the duration of syllabic and non-syllabic liquid consonants occuring in 3 stress group positions and short vowels in 2 positions; the sounds were isolated from utterances of 6 native speakers of Czech. Apart from this, the experiment also measured the syllabic liquids length on the basis of complementary utterances of 5 radio speakers. The total amount of the measured sounds was 852.

Marketing communication targeted at seniors

The master thesis deals with the potential of Czech seniors for Czech marketers. On the basis of secondary as well as primary researches the main elderly consumers' behavioral characteristics, their attitude to commercials and the best practise of communication mix are covered in the thesis. There is also the analysis of the practical example of communication campaign targeting at generation 55+, included its evaluation.

The International Monetary Fund and its role in Financial crisis

This bachelor thesis analyses Fund's activity in financial crises and aims to review the effectiveness of the IMF. In the first part there is introduction of the IMF. Its structure, financial resources and instruments which are used in solution of crises are described. In the second part, there is analysis of Fund's role in the selected crisis of 90th - Mexican crisis, crisis in south-east Asia and crisis in Argentina. In analyses, there is always stated a characteristic of the crisis and then evaluation of the role of the IMF. Emphasis is placed on criticism that the IMF's measures have evoked. In the last chapter there is briefly stated the current financial crisis and Fund's participation in it. The thesis also outlines future development of the IMF.
