Residual Service Lifetime of Furnaces in Petrochemical Industry
Horsák, Libor ; Vincour, Dušan (referee) ; Lukavský, Jiří (referee) ; Vejvoda, Stanislav (advisor)
The objectives of this work is residual lifetime of heaters in petrochemical industry. There is no comprehensive publication about this theme. This paper lists and describes the most of main phenomena that has to be taken into account in the process of determination of residual lifetime. This paper focuses on creep damage of a real heater based on deformation measurement. It describes some heater failures that could cause unplanned operation interruption however, appropriate intervention made possible safe heater operation until planned heater shutdown. No compact method is given how to determine heater residual lifetime, but a direction is given how a complex method of residual lifetime assessment of refinery heaters could be created.
Comparison of scan patterns in dynamic tasks
Děchtěrenko, Filip ; Lukavský, Jiří (advisor) ; Nyström, Marcus (referee) ; Paluš, Milan (referee)
Eye tracking is commonly used in many scientific fields (experimental psychology, neuroscience, behavioral economics, etc.) and can provide us with rigorous data about current allocation of attention. Due to the complexity of data processing and missing methodology, experimental designs are often limited to static stimuli; eye tracking data is analyzed only with respect to basic types of eye movements - fixation and saccades. In dynamic tasks (e.g. with dynamic stimuli, such as showing movies or Multiple Object Tracking task), another type of eye movement is commonly present: smooth pursuit. Importantly, eye tracking data from dynamic tasks is often represented as raw data samples. It requires a different approach to analyze the data, and there are a lot of methodological gaps in analytical tools. This thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, we gave an overview of current methods for analyzing scan patterns, followed by four simulations, in which we systematically distort scan patterns and measure the similarity using several commonly used metrics. In the second part, we presented the current approaches to statistical testing of differences between groups of scan patterns. We present two novel strategies for analyzing statistically significant differences between groups of scan patterns and...
Music and Time perception
Becková, Adéla ; Stehlík, Luděk (advisor) ; Lukavský, Jiří (referee)
The topic of this thesis is time perception with the special insight into time perception in music. At first, some complex influences of music on human are discussed. This contains some basics of music perception and brief introduction to a topic of musical emotions, All from a point of view of cognitive psychology. Then a topic of time perception is brought up. At first some important musical time propositions are briefly presented (tempo, metrum and rhythmicity). Then recent influential cognitive models of time perception are discussed and tried to applied to an issue of time in music. There is a study proposed in the empirical part of this thesis, which could transfer some knowledge from the field of time perception research into a context of melodies. This could be a contribution to a research of time in music. Keywords: time perception, music perception, psychology of time
Scene memorability and change salience: memory-perception relationship
Ptáčková, Barbora ; Lukavský, Jiří (advisor) ; Škaloudová, Alena (referee)
In the thesis, I focus on the relationship between visual memory and the ability to detect changes in photographs. In the theoretical part I introduce the change detection and "change blindness" phenomenon. Next, this work explores visual memory and refers to studies that focused on visual long-term memory and its role in change detection. The objective of the empirical part of this thesis is to map the relation between visual memory (scene memorability) and change detection illustrated on the ability to recognize changes in photographs of indoor and outdoor scenes. Research was conducted by means of an experiment devised in PsychoPy using flicker paradigm. The research sample comprised 42 respondents, mainly university students. Research results did not confirm the existence of a relation between visual memory and change detection. No correspondence was found between these variables, not even at the level of each category, suggesting that change detection depends on other factors than visual long-term memory. KEYWORDS: Change blindness, visual long-term memory, change detection, memorability, perception, experiment
The influence of personification representation in learning materials on retention of learned knowledge
Stárková, Tereza ; Lukavský, Jiří (advisor) ; Morávková Krejčová, Lenka (referee)
In this master thesis, we studied the effect of the use of graphical personification in multimedia learning materials on positive and negative affect, and retention and transfer of the acquired knowledge. According to the Cognitive-Affective Theory of Learning with Media, graphical personification, as one of the main forms of emotional design, could increase the learning outcomes by means of elevated positive affect. The theoretical section of the thesis describes the underlying theories of emotions, emphasizing the Cognitive-Affective Theory of Learning with Media. The respective subsections are dedicated to cognitive multimedia learning principles, emotional design and the Cognitive Load Theory. The experimental section describes a replication and an extension of the original study by Mayer and Estrella. In our experiment, we used an incomplete 2 x 3 between-subject design with independent factors being the use of personification in learning materials (three levels) and the presence of eye tracker in the experimental setup (two levels). We have found no significant effect of graphical personification in learning materials on positive affect, retention or transfer of acquired knowledge. The participants that were given learning materials containing personification and were subject to eye tracking...
Affective state elicitation using pictoral and audiovisual stimuli: A comparative study
Novák, Ondřej ; Kebza, Vladimír (advisor) ; Lukavský, Jiří (referee)
Both pictures and films are widely used elicitors in experimental approach to emotions. However, there is no consensus regarding their relative impact. I describe conceptual underpinning of these methods, their theoretical comparison, and related methods. In a study of 124 students I assess and compare the impact of pictures and films on experiential, behavioural and physiological reactions. There were stronger reactions in response to positive film than to positive pictures. Negative film and pictures were similar in strength yet different in kind of reactions they yielded. The difference can be explained by different temporal characteristics of both methods. Present study is the second study dealing with this topic, and the only study that engaged multiple reaction levels. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Application PFT in adults in psychological counselling
Míková, Gabriela ; Čáp, David (advisor) ; Lukavský, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor thesis handles the possibilities of applying the Rosenzweig PFT in psychological counselling concerning the adult population. At first, the definition of psychological counselling in our environment is discussed. The following chapter deals with projective methods in psychological diagnosis of adults. This bachelor thesis aims to describe Rosenzweig PFT, mainly its administration, evaluation and description of psychometric indices. Several examples of application of this method in various fields of theoretical and applied psychology are included. The main area of this bachelor thesis is dedicated to the possibilities of usage of this method within psychological counselling. This work covers specific diagnostic possibilities of application of this method supported by research studies. The empirical part deals with measuring of development and type of reactions of subjects who went through the intervention program. Rosenzweig PFT is used in order to record the expected change.
Recognition of Facial Expressions of Emotions
Zajícová, Markéta ; Niederlová, Markéta (referee) ; Lukavský, Jiří (referee)
Title: Recognition of Facial Expressions of Emotions Author: Mgr. Markéta Zajícová Department: Department of Psychology, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Arts Supervisor: Mgr. Ing. Martin Vraný Abstract: This work addresses the topic of emotion recognition from facial expressions. The theoretical part starts with general information about emotions; the most elaborated part, however, concerns basic emotions and their manifestation. One part of this work is also about the ability to recognize emotions, its deficits, and its methods of measurement. The theoretical part is closed by the topic of emotional intelligence, which is the overarching element. The empirical part focuses on the differences in the ability to recognize emotions. The results show that women are better in emotion recognition than men, similarly psychologists and coaches, unlike patients with a psychotic disorder whose results are sub- normal. The results also suggest the tendency of positive correlation between the level of education and the coveted ability - with increasing education the ability to recognize emotion expressions is improved. Subtle emotions are recognized with more difficulties in the test, but emotions displayed by out-group members are, against the expectations, better recognized. The results are unable to confirm...
Self-control: disentanling inhibition and initiation
Kucharský, Šimon ; Vranka, Marek (advisor) ; Lukavský, Jiří (referee)
Self-control is usually defined as a unit in a regulatory cycle process. As such, it can be used for inhibition of urgent need or overriding impulsive responses, but it can also mean that person can engage in a behavior which is aversive at the moment. Contemporary the most influential is strength model of self-control that envisages one general and limited source of energy for every act of self-control. According to this model, after depleting this energy, one's ability to control his or her behavior or thought is impaired, even in domains that does not relate to the cause of the depletion. However, there has been substantial criticism of this model recently - regarding theoretical implausibility, possible bias in literature (or even manipulated results) and also growing body of evidence that is not in line with the model. Because of that, there are attempts to alter or dismiss the model. One of the possible updates is distinguishing between two domains of self-control (inhibition and initiation). This thesis overviews body of recent findings about self-control and proposes experimental design which could serve to verify hypothesis of existence of two independent domain of self- control. Limits of this approach and suggestions for future research are also discussed. Keywords: Self-control, ego...
