Legislative framework of operation and services of libraries in the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia: comparative analysis

Following thesis has a task to analyse free library laws - czech, slovak and polish. Thesis consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. In theoretical part is analysed firstly czech library law. Later slovak and polish library law are analysed. In practical part is firstly explained method - comparative analysis. Further there are formulated a research questions. Sampling and coding with indicators follow. Then method of analysis is solved - in our case comparation, where czech and slovak library law and czech and polish library law are compared with help of the indicators. In the end there is a brief final summary.
Librarian's involvement into bibliographic practise

The thesis Librarian's involvement into bibliotherapeutic practise aims to describe current situation of bibliotherapy. This thesis explores common projects and activities in this field and oportunities of studying bibliotherapy, especially abroad. The practical part of this thesis is the case study of bibliotherapeutic practise in the library of Kroměříž. Final part is the proposition of the personal and kompetence profile of bibliotherapist in library services.
Competency profile of selected library spokesperson

The bachelor thesis deals with the competencies and personality traits needed to perform the job of a public library spokesperson. The aim of the thesis is to analyze these competencies and to build the competency profile of an employee. The first part of the thesis is theoretical and focuses mainly on the topic of public relations in the non-profit sphere, the working position of the spokesperson and the definition of competence and competency model. The practical part is solved by qualitative research using structured interviews with four selected public library spokespeople. The result is the compilation of a worker's competency profile. The work stands for what a potential candidate should focus on during their study.
Digital Libraries at the Charles University in Prague

The dissertation focuses on digitization in libraries of Charles University. In connection with accessible sources, online questionnaire survey and half-structured interviews done with representatives of eight faculty libraries, the digitization activity under Charles University is presented. Transformations of the library collections into digital forms are in motion in many libraries, therefore the amount of digital material is growing and it is not co-ordinated. The great amount of digital objects is followed by a matter of depositing data and making them accessible, which is currently very topical at Charles University. The aim of the dissertation is to analyse digital libraries and repositories produced and runned at this university. First part of the thesis explains - besides set aims and metodology - terminological basis of the dissertation, especially connection between digital library and digital repository. The digital activities are analysed also from the point of staffing of performed functions, hardware and software equipment at digitalization departments of libraries, technical specification of digitized documents, metadata and also method of depositing data and making them accessible. Czech bibliophile in the early 21st century

The aim of this diploma thesis is to introduce the phenomenon of rare books and artist's book, their place in the domestic book production and the subjects that deal with their creation and publishing. In addition to publishing houses, also associations are introduced in the thesis, including universities, where numerous projects devoted to the artist's book are created. The current situation of rare books and artist's books is also reflected through exhibitions, competitions or fairs that focus on this topic. Reports on rare books and artist's books in the media provide feedback on how society is aware of and informed about this type of book production and how the society perceives it. The acquisition strategy of foreign-language books in public libraries: A comparative study

Public libraries are facing a great challenge to succeed in serving their increasingly diverse communities. This thesis focuses on the acquisition of foreign-language books in public libraries and attempts to address the question whether libraries have special strategies to select and acquire foreign-language books. Particular attention is paid to fiction, the main genre offered by public libraries. To help answer the thesis question, the author compares the acquisition strategies of the Municipal Library of Prague and the Zentral- und Landesbibliothek Berlin using structured interviews with the key persons responsible for the acquisition of foreign-language books. As a background, the author provides a literature review of foreign-language materials in public libraries and specifically, the acquisition strategy for those materials (i.e. including case studies, research projects and trends from the Czech Republic, the US, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Denmark and Netherlands). This knowledge foundation is considered in the comparison of the two libraries and their acquisition strategies. Retrospective View on Music Department of North Bohemian Research Library in Ústí nad Labem Activity and Concept of its Future Fusion wit Library for the Sight Handicapped

0 Abstract This thesis named "Retrospective Preview of the activities of the Music Department of SVK Ústí nad Labem and the concept of a future merger with the sound library", in the form of a case study describes, in the introductory part, the activities of the North Bohemian research library in General, in other parts it is described and evaluated the historical development of the Music Department and it is also described the transition from special funds to the Music Department, and as well the introduction of automation of library processes into library practice. In the practical part of the thesis is in the form of semi- structured interviews and statements by senior management personnel and other library staff presented the issue of the merger of the music department and a sound library for the blind and visually impaired. The conclusion is dedicated to the evaluation of current activities and the situation of both departments and reflection on the possible operation in the future. Options classification table games to the services of public libraries

The bachelor thesis is focused on the aspect of the inclusion of board games in the offer of public library services. The introductory theoretical part is devoted to the issue of board games. Next, there is a focus on the use of games in Czech libraries, all seen in the context of the shift of libraries to their community model. The case study describes the game program realized in the Municipal Library in Dobříš. Attention is paid to all aspects of this service: financial support, organization, marketing, feedback, and efficiency gains. The research methods used are literary analyses of academic texts and semi-structured interviews with the staff of the Municipal Library in Dobříš. In conclusion, there is a summary of the facts collected and design of the good practice for public libraries that consider the introduction of these services.

The thesis starts with a brief overview of the phenomenon of homelessness and a description of the legislation defining the public services of libraries within the Czech Republic. The approaches of this two city libraries to provide public services focusing on the homeless, users with special needs, are described and compared in the practical part of the thesis. The possible collaboration between libraries and organizations providing services for the homeless and the approach of American libraries that have a deeper experience on a global scale with homeless services are also mentioned. The tools for building the collection in the Municipal Library of Prague

The goal of this bachelor thesis is to introduce tools, practices, and agendas used to build the library collection of the Municipal Library of Prague (further also MLP) and their relations. The thesis consists of six chapters and appendices. It includes the explanation of some internal terms used only in MLP. Later, the characterization and a brief history of the Municipal Library of Prague are exposed. The thesis also describes the processes taking place in the departments of acquisitions and library collections maintenance (purchase, resupply, displacement). More attention is given to the so-called attractive collection, its characterization, purchase, displacement, and lending, and selected sample of the attractive collection is used to show the function of the tools to build the collection. The thesis concludes with the possibilities of innovations in the field of building the collections in the Municipal Library of Prague.
