Reader - response strategy of Lustig's texts
Zimová, Lucie ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Peterka, Josef (referee)
Rigorous work deals with reader-response strategies of some Lustig's texts. Our aim is to prove if Lustig relies on high subject and culture encyclopedia of his readers or if his works have esthetic value without these requirements. First part of this rigorous work is devoted to the theory of reader-response esthetic. We shortly present the main terms and representatives of this concept. In analysis of this works we concentrate us on the story as an interaction of the process, narration, figures and of the space because these levels are the most substantial part for the work response. Rigorous work is always divided into theoretic part which introduces us with the solution for the next analysis and into practical part where we within our scope try to interpret the used strategies. In the chapter "Narration" we mainly focus us on narrator and his possible unreliability further on the speech form and the telling order and speed. In the chapter "Figure as a text phenomenon" we are mainly interested in figure condition and the process of its imaging. Finally in the chapter "Space and its functionality" we are concerned with the problem how Lustig manages (does not) to display functional space without relying on culture encyclopedia of his readers. This show us that Lustig calculates with response horizon and...
Literary Work Between Romanticism and Realism
Mikulová, Michaela ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
Thesis deals with detection of romantic and realistic components in three selected novels, traditionally placed on the border between romanticism and realism, and more closely examines if their ambiguity in terms of literary movement is from a contemporary point of view up-to-date and relevant, and what constitutes it. This main goal is preceded by the need to define the most complex concepts of literary romanticism and realism, including their specific characteristics, tendencies and distinct feautures. Particular analyses are developed according to a preselected warp whose individual items are universal aspects of a literary work such as subject matter, plot, narration, characters, space-time and language devices which are monitored, on the basis of conclusions rendered in a theoretical part of this thesis, for a particular degree of romantic and realistic heritage. Within each analysis we were able to decide which aspects of the work are fully or rather consistent with the principles of romanticism and which are conversely in accordance with realistic tradition. The subsequent summary analysis helped to answer the question whether the work as a whole is closer to romanticism or realism. Recognition of different forms of realationship between romantic and realistic principle that naturally emerged...
.The "own" and "foreign" spaces in the fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben, Božena Němcová, the Grimm brothers and Ludwig Bechstein
Ledinská, Šárka ; Bílek, Petr (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee) ; Šidák, Pavel (referee)
This dissertation has two main aims. The first is to describe or specify the poetics of "own" and "foreign" space in literary work in general and in the fairy tales of K. J. Erben, the Grimm brothers, B. Němcová or L. Bechstein; the second is to analyse and compare the poetics in three spatial pairs the "own" and "foreign" spaces in relation to the main character of the above-mentioned fairy tales representing, namely in the spaces of home and journey, the living and the dead or welfare and poverty. The first part of the thesis is mostly theoretical and is primarily focused on the first set goal, i. e. the description and specification of the poetics of "own" and "foreign" spaces as well as on related phenomena, such as the definition of concepts "space", "own", "foreign", "own and foreign space", "place", "character", "subject of own and foreign space", analysis of the character's relationships to space, evolution of humans relationship to space and their perspective on it in history and literature with a special focus on spatial turn etc. The second, predominantly analytical-comparative part of the thesis, connected mainly with the second set goal of the dissertation, focuses with the help of secondary literature in the field of humanities and specifically selected fairy-tale aspects on the...
The role of the narrative space in psychological novel - Vlčí jáma and Helimadoe
Valešová, Markéta ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis deals with the ways to create narrative space and its function in two novels of psychological fiction: 'Vlčí jáma' written by Jarmila Glazarová, and 'Helimadoe' by Jaroslav Havlíček. The narrative space is studied from the point of view of the relationship to the character, which is the central focus of psychological fiction. The first part of the thesis includes characteristics of respective characters based on the concept of chronotopes devised by Michail M. Bachtin. Following that, the thesis addresses the narrative approaches represented by theorists such as Marie-Laure Ryan, who focuses on cognitive maps as mental models of spatial relations, and Gabriel Zoran. Particular focus is devoted to the spatial frames put forward by Ruth Ronen, which can be used to observe all characteristics of narrative space. The thesis evaluates the possibilities of narrative space analysis for the interpretation of the selected works of psychological fiction, and compares the contribution of the different approaches to the research of narrative space. KEYWORDS Helimadoe, Vlčí jáma, narrative space, chronotope, Michail M. Bachtin, spatial frame

Quaint Fantasy. Apprehension of Michal Ajvaz as an Author of Magical Realism
Klimecká, Ester ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Mocná, Dagmar (referee)
The thesis deals with a question if it is appropriate to consider Czech writer Michal Ajvaz to be an author of magical realism. His fiction usually incorporates supernatural objects or events into a natural fictional world just as in the fiction of magical realism. The thesis analyses the nature of magic motifs and events in the studied literature, as well as literary techniques, which are used to achieve this specific kind of poetics. By examination of the canonical works of magical realism, such as the novel One Hundred Years of Solitude by G. G. Márquez, The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende or the novel Midnight Children by S. Rushdie, we can specify the structure of this literary genre and compare it to the texts of Michal Ajvaz. In a survey, we focus on two Ajvaz's early novels - the fantastic one The Other City (1993) and the philosophical prose The Golden Age (2001). KEYWORDS Michal Ajvaz, magical realism, magic realism, postmodernism, The Other City, The Golden Age
"Trap for the Reader" as a Narrative Strategy and Chances for Its Didactic Use
Kaleta, Juda ; Hausenblas, Ondřej (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This thesis focuses on the concept of the trap for the reader, which is defined using the methodology of the cognitive science cognitive literary studies as an input of such structures and concepts in the text by which specific scheme is activated in the mind of the reader to be replaced by the different incompatible scheme. Based on this replacement, the comprehension of the text is reconstructed. Afterward, we describe specific types of trap for the reader. Every type of the trap is defined by replaced schemes: characters are prototypically an- thropomorphic, characters are black-and-white, characters are archetypes, the narrator speaks the truth, the genre is not changed. Excerpts of literary works are used to represent each type of trap. In the other part of the thesis, we demonstrate usage of this concept in the literature lessons at upper elementary and high schools. Both well-known pieces of the Czech literature, as well as contemporary young adult literature, are used as examples for the didactic use of this concept. Keywords cognitivism, cognitive literary studies, young adult literature, cognitive bias, critical thinking, functional literacy 5

Autobiography in the Context of the Positioning Theory
Soukupová, Klára ; Kubíček, Tomáš (advisor) ; Hrdlička, Josef (referee) ; Zizler, Jiří (referee)
Mgr. Klára Soukupová Autobiography in the Context of the Positioning Theory Abstract This doctoral thesis is a theoretical and an interpretative study that deals with the genre of autobiography, its position in the contemporary literary theory and problems related to an interpretation of autobiographical texts. Autobiography as a genre of non-fictional literature refers to real characters and events, but at the same time it is a literary work of art, a verbal construct in which the representation of reality is subject to the intentions of the author and to the rules of construction, that are close to the compositional techniques of fictional texts. The first part of the thesis concentrates on the theory of autobiography and its interdisciplinary context. It summarizes the development of theory of autobiography from the late 19th century to the present. Also, the concepts of the memory studies (especially the concept of collective memory) and the problem of distinguishing fiction and non-fiction (discussed in philosophy of history in 1970s and 1980s, fictional worlds theory, pragmatics of fiction, etc.) are taken into account. The theoretical chapter critically reflects P. Lejeune's definition of autobiography, based on the concept of the autobiographical pact. In relation with the problem of how to define...
Resisting Temptation:Mephistophelian seduction in Czech Theatrical Drama of the 1970's and 1980's
Imlaufová, Markéta ; Smrčka, Jiří (advisor) ; Kubíček, Tomáš (referee)
This master thesis deals with the topic of temptation in three Czech Theatrical Dramas of the 1970's and 1980's, inspired by the legend of Faust. These dramatic works represent different model approaches of dealing with such a topic. Thesis focuses on the principle of evil and its functioning. The temptation by Devil is therefore defined as Mephistophelian seduction, which occurs in drama plays selected as a subject of this thesis. The thesis analyzes and describes Mephistophelian seduction and its realization in theatrical dramas. Thesis elaborates the mechanism of evil principle and examines how the main protagonists are influenced in their acting and behaviour by this power. This thesis brings the power of evil into the wider context of "higher power" and describes relations between the power of evil and totalitarian power. On this base the historical and political context of the lives of the authors is considered as an important element. Based on comparison of all these aspects the principle of Mephistophelian seduction is reflected within its existential dimension. KEYWORDS Temptation, Devil, Mephistophelian seduction, protagonist, evil principle, drama, Faust, Mephistopheles, Václav Havel, Oldřich Daněk, Jiří Suchý
