Sudeten German press, in Bavaria in the period from 1945 to 1955

The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of Sudete German press published in Bavaria from 1945 to 1955, it means directly after the displacement of Sudete German from Czechoslovakia. The first part of the work analyses the period from 1945 to 7th September 1949 with the focus on the first astablishment of German press in the American zone. The main emphasis is laid on the issues of Sudete German clubs in Bavaria and on the origins of Sudete German press which is further analysed. The second part starts with the establishment of the West German Federal Republic (7th September 1949) and its consequences for the Sudete German press. It also presents the new press law and its contribution to the development of freedom of speech. This part also analyses the most important press titles of the period. Apart from the analyses of the printing press titles in the mentioned periods, the thesis deals with their historical contexts including the course of events before 1945. It is very important to understand these events to be able to grasp further development of Czech - German relationship after the war, development of unique Sudete German press and the situation of Sudete German after the dislocation from their historical areas in Czech countries.

Media in Czech Fine Arts

The thesis Media in Czech Fine Arts deals with the relationship between media and fine arts. The thesis aims to find, among other things, whether media can be considered a distinct theme in arts. The objective, methodology, and resources utilized are all addressed in the first chapters. A brief overview of how the topic was addressed in foreign fine arts follows; this was the main inspiration for the pursuit of this work. The main part consists of a selection of works of art where the topic of media appears and where the author of the work was a Czech fine artist. The thesis focuses mainly on painting, drawings, graphic arts and sculpture. The artworks are sorted into several subheads, primarily by the topic they portray, then chronologically. Each thematic unit makes a connection between history and theory of media, and the history of art.
Development of regional newspapers in Mlada Boleslav from 1945 to the beginning of normalization

The thesis describes the development of regional periodicals in Mladá Boleslav from 1945 to the beginning of normalization in 1969 in terms of the historical, political and social background. The main objective is to describe how the most important regional newspapers looked and what they wrote. At the time of the Third Republic there were weekly political magazines: Social Democratic Hlas lidu and Communistic Naše Pojizeří (later called Naše noviny). During the fifties there was a rural newspapers called Nová vesnice within the central regional press, which at the end of the fifties, transformed into the district newspaper Mladoboleslavsko, later renamed Zář Mladoboleslavska. Other significant titles in the district were also racing magazine Ventil cultural monthly magazine Život mladoboleslavské kultury in the sixties. The thesis provides a historical overview and a formal content analysis of each regional periodicals. To complement the broader context of the main theme the author summarizes the development of regional print media before 1945, as well as briefly describes the political history of Czechoslovakia during the periods 1945 to 1969 including media management techniques and providing social, demographic and economic characteristics of the district of Mladá Boleslav. The World speaks-magazine radio listeners, fans of gramophone records and friends of good movie

This bachelor thesis focuses on the development and content of a magazine for radio listeners, fans of gramophone records and fans of good movies. This magazine was called "Přehled rozhlasu" (between the years 1932 and 1934), later (until 1939) it was called "Svět mluví". Vilém Práger was the publisher and editor of this independent magazine which represented the opinions of radio listeners and brought them important information and opinions from inside and also outside of the radio. It was a key alternative for similar magazines which were produced by the Radiojournal company itself (these two magazines were called "Radiojournal" and "Týden rozhlasu"). For better understanding, the development of Práger's magazine is set into the context of social and political events during 1930's in our country, with a brief description of media from this time. Most of the magazine's content was devoted to radio production, to conditions and the aim of radio broadcasting. Information about the constitution, funding and personal structure of the radio station in Czechoslovakia in the 20th and 30th is also included in this bachelor thesis, as well as the description of the editor Vilém Práger and other important people who contributed to his magazine.
Union of Journalists 1945 - 1948

This work titled Union of Journalists in 1945-1948 is trying to capture the period of reconstruction and building of journalistic community life since the end of Nazi occupation till the communist coup in February 1948. Although it captures only a very short period of time from the rich history of the Czech journalist associations, we believe that this is a crucial period. The work is divided into nine chapters. The introductory chapter focuses on the preparation of the establishment of a new journalistic organization. The second chapter deals with the process of "cleansing" in which journalists organization examined journalists and punish their activities during the Nazi occupation. The third chapter describes the process of creating of post-war media legislation, particularly the role that a journalistic organization played in this process. The fourth chapter focuses on the most important moments of internal community life. The fifth chapter is devoted to the Association of imprisoned journalists. The sixth chapter deals with the renewed activity of journalistic organizations in the international forum. Religious press published in the first half of the 20th century in the West Bohemila

The aim of this thesis is to review the religious press, published in the first half of the 20th century in the West Bohemia along with its brief description. The first part outlines the situation which prevailed in our country in the first half of the 20th century, the political, cultural and social. Furthermore, I deal with events that were significant for the church at this time. At the end of the first part I mention the religious press published in the period, especially I will deal with Catholic titles. The second part gives an overview of believers in various churches in the years 1900 - 1950 and the situation that prevailed in the religious environment in the Pilsen area. The last part briefly describes each title in terms of formality and content. There is mentioned, who was editor and publisher of each title, who was redactor of a journal and where it was printed. I mention the periodicity of the title, the period in which the issue had been published, who was it aimed for and what was the content focused on.
Travel journalism in Národní listy Index 1861-1913

Thesis maps travel journalism in Národní listy during the period between 1861 and 1913. It also describes a unique resource of the Národní listy Index, which served as an internal register in the editorial office. Index is stored in the archives of Národní Muzeum. There hasn't been any detailed study concerning the Index up to present time. Thesis compiles 275 travel articles from the years 1863, 1873, 1883, 1891, 1903 and 1913. For the work quantitative and qualitative content analysis were used. Národní listy Index Analysis verified its reliability. Index and its content document the process of professionalization journalism in the 19th century. Current researchers may use Index is a proven source of guidance for preliminary research, media-historical research and bibliography formation. The second part of this thesis maps and describes period travel articles, including an overview list of their authors, list of destinations and a scheme of major thematic lines. Hypotheses were confirmed successfully: travel articles were regular and frequent part of the content of Národní listy. Travel articles were most commonly published as feuilletons. The most significant year of the chosen period was the year 1903 year with highest amount of travel articles published the weakest 1883.
Overview and Comparison of Religious Programs on Public TV in Czech Republic and Spain in 2010

This diploma thesis "Overview and Comparison of Religious Programs on Public TV in Czech Republic and Spain in 2010" maps and compares periodical religious programs of Česká televize and Televisión Española in 2010. It concentrates on specifics of religious TV production in both countries. The theoretical part outlines the church-media context which serves as a background for the actual research. This part consists of: demographic contrasts between both countries (comparing numbers of adherents), basic data on the history of religious broadcasting, and presents the Church documents that concern mass media. It offers an outline of media legislation which stipulates the framework to which programming must adhere. The practical section provides an overview of programs, broadcast in both countries, along with their brief characteristics and comparisons. It then proceeds to analyze their content, focusing mainly on three topics: ecumenism, proselytism and bioethics. These topics allow ascertainment of significant differences in religious TV production in both countries. The closing part critically evaluates the results obtained in the course of research, taking in consideration changes since 2010.
Between Two Worlds:Life of Czech Women in the USA and the Magazine Ženské Listy (Women's Gazette)

The thesis is a study of the magazine Ženské Listy (The Women's Gazette), which was the first magazine published for Czech women in the United States. The magazine was founded by Josephine Humpal-Zeman and Karla Machova in 1894 in Chicago. Josephine Humpal-Zeman was an editor and publisher of the journal in Chicago and Karla Machova worked as a contributor from Bohemia. The aim of this thesis is to examine the magazine in the period of 1894-1901 when it was edited by Humpal-Zeman. The thesis reveals the circumstances in which the magazine was founded; it attempts to reconstruct the development of the journal, and it also provides a content analysis of the first seven volumes. The thesis is based on the research of the first seven volumes of the magazine and the study of other primary and secondary sources. Wider historical context is explored in the first two chapters. The focus is on the Czech community living in the United States and the general developments in the American society in the second half of the 19 century. Since the Women's Gazette was a fairly progressive women's journal, the thesis contains also subchapters dealing with the woman question and the history of women's magazines in both countries.
