The dissertation analyzes the iReporter project, which allows viewers to become involved in Czech Television broadcasting. The dissertation is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part deals with participatory (citizen) journalism, both abroad and in the Czech Republic. I attempt to outline the history and present of public involvement in the production of news, with a focus on TV- related participatory journalism and Czech Television in particular. The dissertation describes the way in which viewers became increasingly involved in TV broadcasting over time, be it in movies, TV series, entertainment programs or news reporting. Visual framing of rwandan genocide in 1994
Macků, Anna ; Géla, František (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of photographs taken during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. The ethnically motivated conflict, in which the Hutu majority tried to exterminate the Tutsi minority, claimed almost a million victims in a hundred days. The Rwandan genocide is notoriously associated with machetes and radio. Most of the victims were killed with primitive weapons, and the murders of neighbours and family members took place under the influence of a propaganda radio broadcast. The thesis describes how photojournalism in the 1990s reported on such a specific conflict as modern genocide. The thesis uses visual framing analysis, which is based on the theory of framing. After that it was possible to identify the recurring visual frames through which the Rwandan genocide is depicted in the images.
Instagram Accounts of The Media in The Context of the News Values
Tichá, Radka ; Géla, František (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the topic of Instagram accounts of media companies in the context of news values. It studies how selected media companies choose their content for Instagram accounts, and what news values are crucial to them when picking their posts. The aim of the work is the analysis of the dominant news values and the description of the specifics of Instagram contents. Using a combination of quantitative content analysis of Instagram posts of monitored media accounts and qualitative structured interviews with administrators and editors of Czech media newsrooms profiles, the author tries to answer research questions and confirm or disprove the hypotheses. The conclusions of the thesis show that the Instagram environment is highly competitive for news organizations with pressure on the speed and attractiveness of their posts. Therefore, the news media use various opportunities, which their Instagram account allows them, to satisfy their audience or attract new followers. However, the monitored sample does not confirm the existence of cross-prevalent dominant news values, or universal posts or topics that would be used by the media on Instagram.

A year in scout in photography
Pecháčková, Alžběta ; Géla, František (advisor) ; Slanec, Jaroslav (referee)
The theoretical part of this bachelor thesis is divided into four chapters. The first part consists of a short description of the history of the scout movement, furthermore, it conveys the circumstances of the origin of Scouting and its spreading all over the world. I pay attention to both the world and the Czech environment. The second chapter explains and clarifies the main ideas and values of the scout movement and its three "foundation stones" - the scout promise, law, and motto plus daily order. The third chapter presents some of the Czech Scouting magazines and their characteristics, however, the area of interest is focused only on currently published titles. I diverted from the thesis by adding another chapter about the media image of Scouting based on selected examples to keep the work up to date. The practical part is a book consisting of photographs that I took in the period from August to December 2020 on a summer camp and other scout events. The images are arranged in such a way as to outline the diversity of scout activities and so that readers can get an idea of what a normal day at a scout camp looks like.
Hairdresser during the day, performer Naira Delairo during the night (Television documentary about the drag quee's life)
Pančochářová, Natálie ; Macková, Veronika (advisor) ; Géla, František (referee)
Drag show, a marginalized genre of popular culture, is an entertainment or cultural performance in which men, in imaginative costumes and distinctive makeup, portray well-known female personalities. The performances are an experience based on a synthesis of acting, dancing, and singing. Although over the last 20 years drag show has become a legitimate segment of the cultural sector in the Czech Republic, there is only a small amount of professional literature and audiovisual processing related to this type of entertainment. A television documentary about the life of drag show called 'Hairdresser during the day, performer Naira Delairo during the night' introduces Nikolas Novák not only as a drag artist but also as a man with a homosexual orientation, who moved from a small village in South Moravia to the capital because of his hobby. In addition to performing, Nikolas makes a living as a hairdresser, but his penchant for drag extends more to his personal life than it may seem at first glance.
