Štefan Polakovič and Slovak Political Catholicism
Lenčéšová, Michaela ; Kopeček, Michal (advisor) ; Šmíd, Marek (referee) ; Šebek, Jaroslav (referee)
The dissertation explores the political thinking of the Catholic philosopher Štefan Polakovič (1912-1999), who is considered one of the main ideologists of Jozef Tiso's politics during the Slovak state (1939-1945). In the context of the political struggle between President Tiso and Prime Minister Vojtech Tuka, Polakovič participated in the Nazification of Slovak Catholic political thinking by creating Slovak and Catholic concepts inspired by the ideology of the German National Socialists. After the Second World War, from Argentina, he tried to achieve the restoration of the Slovak state and in the 1990s he was one of the apologists of Jozef Tiso's politics and a supporter of the idea of the anti-fascist Catholic resistance in the milieu of the Hlinka Slovak People's Party. The main aim of this dissertation is to investigate, what were the main reasons for Polakovič's fascism and why he considered the nation-state as the only acceptable form of statehood for the Slovak nation. Although the dissertation concentrates mainly on Polakovic's thinking during the Slovak state period, it also pays attention to Polakovič's thinking during Argentine emigration in an attempt to reflect the development of his thinking throughout the twentieth century. First, this dissertation describes the birth and history of...
"He took care of everything possible, but not his parish.": Rudolf Horský (1852-1926) between politics and his parish
Hantáková, Anna ; Pokorná, Magdaléna (advisor) ; Šebek, Jaroslav (referee)
(in English): The topic of my thesis will be the selected life problems of Rudolf Horský, a Catholic priest, politician, and journalist. While Horský's political activity has already been partially discussed, in my work I will focus on Horský's privacy and everyday life, which will reveal a new perspective on the social position and possibilities of a politically active Catholic priest. Horský was an important figure of Christian socialism, which was forming at the end of the 19th century, but in fact he also contributed in a certain extent to the negative image of Catholics in society. In my work, among other things, I will try to offer some answers to the question of why it has happened so. It is Horský's private life that reveals some of the obstacles by which the priest-politician was limited and frustrated. It is about the overall limitation of the possibilities of a politically active priest. For example, the question of the priest's freedom of speech, financial dependence on the church or lack of time. Horský's priestly identity will be discussed as well. The sources that I use are, on the one hand, materials stored in the Národní archiv, primarily Horský's communication with his superiors. On the other hand, Horský's correspondence with Jindřich Šimon Baar, partially stored in the Památník...
The changes of Roman Catholic Church in the Příbram region in the period of normalization from the perspective of church policy of Czechoslovak Communist Party (KSČ)
Řapek, Vojtěch ; Rychlík, Jan (advisor) ; Šebek, Jaroslav (referee)
(anglicky) The diploma thesis is focused on the Roman Catholic Church and its changes in the period of normalization on the example of the Příbram district. After the partial political liberalization in 1968 there was the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops resulting in normalization of relations and re-restricting the activity of the Roman Catholic Church. Within the district, church politics was on the agenda of the district church secretaries subordinate to the higher officials of the church politics. Except for the official activity of the church connected with the phenomenon of political collaboration, there was also unofficial underground church, the activity of which has not been well mapped yet, though it performed many functions and replaced activities that were not allowed or tolerated by the communist regime. The Příbram district represented a specific administrative unit within Bohemia from a religious point of view. The important pilgrimage place Svatá Hora was one of the main church venues due to the influence of the interesting personalities operating here and the pilgrimages. The almost twenty-year period of normalization here offers many remarkable events, personalities and phenomena, culminating in the rise of the church at the end of the eighties.

ŠEBEK, Jaroslav
The entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana is a polyphagous species of fungus that attacks more than 700 species of hosts. This species of fungus is one of the most researched and most common representatives of entomopathogenic fungi. Many of bioproducts based on conidia or blastospores of B. bassiana are registered around the world. These bioproducts are used in biological control against various pests of field crops, fast-growing vegetables and ornamental flowers and in forest stands against certain pest species. The bachelor thesis focuses on the basic "in vitro" parameters of selected strains of entomopathogenic fungus B. bassiana from different geographical areas. The work focuses on the effect of temperature on the germination of strains of the entomopathogenic fungus B. bassiana. Furthermore, the growth and development of B. bassiana strains (radial growth) were compared. And the last part is focused on the comparison of spore production of strains of entomopathogenic fungus B. bassiana on standard nutrient medium and natural substrate.
