Is Punk Dead?

Tato práce se zabývá proměnou punkové subkultury v českém prostředí od konce 70. let do současnosti. Zaměřuje se především na změnu životních hodnot a kontextu se zlomovým bodem, za který je označován pád komunismu. Je zde analyzován vývoj subkultury, která se rodí ve pojených státech amerických 70. letech, odkud se rozšířila do celého světa. Je typická odporem ke konzumní společnosti, válkám, nacismu, korporacím a hlavně nesvobodě. Mezi roky a 1977 se punk dostává i do tehdejšího Československa, kde v kontextu vlády komunistické strany dostává nový rozměr. Práce popisuje rozpor mezi příslušníky komunity a veřejností, kterou jsou tito lidé označování za závadovou a nebezpečnou mládež. Subkultura se potýká s represemi a omezeními až do pádu socialismu začnou vznikat nové odnože, souvislosti se společenským vývojem roste nová tvář subkultury, která se již zabývá konkrétnějšími problémy, jako jsou práva zvířat, či plýtvání. V analýzu použit kvalitativní výzkum ve formě zúčastněného pozorování a rozhovorů se zástupci současné i původní vlny. Socialization of Young People within the Subculture of Graffiti

In the thesis the author is focused on socialization of young people within the subculture of graffiti. She discusses aspects of the individual's integration into the subculture and its rules, which then influence the style and quality of the new member's life. In the context of graffiti subculture the author describes members' relationships, which are deeply rooted in hierarchy. That is characterized by respecting older writers at the top of the hierarchical system, and vice versa despising new writers who do not respect subculture rules. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the author introduces the theoretical background of subculture research to the reader. She also familiarize the reader with subculture of graffiti in the Czech Republic. In the practical part, she introduces her own research, based on eight semi-structured interviews with members of Prague graffiti subculture and her observation. Based on collected data she comes to conclusion and answers her research questions.
Rituals as Elements of Control in Regular Marijuana use

This bachelor thesis deals with the use of controlled drugs. It focuses on marijuana users and their rituals, which present an element of control. The theoretical part summarizes basic information about marijuana including the nature, effects and risks associated with its use. There is also explained the theory of controlled drug use, major works and authors who have studied this phenomenon and the meaning of the word "ritual". The next section describes my qualitative research and basic research questions. The last section is devoted to the analysis of semi-structured interviews. The analysis explains areas of life that affect the respondents' control, the differences between the ways of use marijuana and a description of the customs and rituals of its users. It also discusses the meanings that users attach to the drug, which in turn influence their rituals. It also provides knowledge about the importance of structure of living.
The subculture of conterporary Czech bands of the new wave of heavy metal

The thesis deals with with the subculture of Czech contemporary bands dedicated to the new wave of heavy metal. The first chapter introduces the theoretical concepts of subcultures and lifestyle. Apart from the classical approach to the theories of subcultures, also introduces the post-subculture approach of David Muggleton, who does not consider subculture as a stable social phenomena. The second chapter is devoted to the historical development of heavy metal, separately in the world and in the Czech Republic (former Czechoslovakia). Presented are metal genres that have played a key role in shaping the form of the modern metal subgenres. The third chapter is based on qualitative research using semi-structured interviews with members of the subculture and participant observation. The aim of the research was to determine the rules that operate within the subculture, the common features of its members, the meaning they attach their band and music, whether they have, in accordance to the theory of subcultures, common set of standards and values, how they stylize, and what are relationship within their subculture .
The behaviour of visitors of the Hip Hop Kemp 2010 music festival with regard to hiphop subculture

This work follows the dilemma of the Hip Hop Kemp 2010 visitors behaviour. On the festival we can see acts of exhibition, vandalism, violence and so. The work tryies to describe and find out some motivations of such acts. It was used three research methods for this purpose - standardize interview with visitors, observation and analysis of the festival photos. Conduct of every single individual is affected by hiphop subculture, where men and some women try to look strong and "rough". Individual acts are also influenced by atmosphere and festival mood.
From all corners of the world: Ethnic identity of Erasmus students

The main topic of this work is forming of an ethnic identity in multicultural interaction. The key source of information besides the literature is data acquired by own research work. Studied literature enables the author to discuss the main theoretical approaches and specify the essential terminology. The presented concept is examined owing to the research work. The research is designed as a case study of a specific group: Erasmus students in French Lyon. This group was examined by way of analysis of interviews with some of its members. In quest of achieving reliable data, the research is focused on five nationalities: Bulgarians, Czechs, Germans, Italians and Spanish. The conclusions of this work clarify how the examined individuals construct their ethnic identities but also how they comprehend the term culture. The analytical part of this work concentrates on how they perceive their own culture and how they observe the foreign culture in which they are temporarily staying. In this context ethnic and social dichotomies are discussed as a means of self-identification and self-determination. Female Rappers and Their Position within Czech Hip Hop Subculture

Female rappers and their position within the Czech hip hop subculture This study focuses on the position of female rappers within the Czech hip hop subculture. The theoretical part contains the development of the term "subculture" in regard to gender, and the role of women within music subcultures. The second part of the theory deals with the birth and development of hip hop as an artistic and cultural movement. In relation to hip hop, this study is inspired by American literature that focuses on female rappers and their roles within hip hop subculture. The research work has two parts. First part of the research is based on the qualitative analysis of interviews with Czech female rappers. These female rappers were asked about their motivation to become rappers, in their opinion what it takes for women to be successful in rap, how they see their position as female rappers, and how they feel about the label "female" rap. The second part of the research is based on textual analysis of selected rap songs by these artists. The main focus of this analysis is on the construction of authenticity and their gender identity as female rappers.
