Fiction, biography and documntary in W.G. Sebald's narrative prose
Richterová, Gabriela ; Stromšík, Jiří (advisor) ; Tvrdík, Milan (referee)
This dissertation is devoted to fiction, biographical and documentary work in the prose of the German author W. G. Sebald. W. G. Sebald was a unique character with a distinguished way of storytelling on the post-war German literary scene with. Most topics thet were paid attention to in his books were related to Germany and its history. Sebald was one of the early Germanists, who wrote in German language and who followed the topic of the civil inhabitans' misery during the air raids of the Allies over Germany in World War II. Another important topic in his books was the Holocaust and he also frequently dealt with the relationship between the Jews and non-Jewish people in Germany. W. G. Sebald's books are difficult to be put in a particular category. His work actually breaks boundaries between categories, between non-fiction and fiction. The Author himself denied the categories in literature. He called his prose "the fictional prose". A unique junction of fiction and facts, biographical and autobiographical elements, the books of travel, architecture and country descriptions together with reflections and fictional essays is typical of this author's books. Also characteristic of his texts is the usage of pictures and photographs, mostly black-and-white, scattered freely in a text.
"Du has(s)t mich (gefragt) …" Human primal fears and their literary implementation in lyrics of the band ,Rammstein'
Pecková, Adéla ; Blahak, Boris (advisor) ; Tvrdík, Milan (referee)
A fitting citation from the name of this thesis contains one of the most well known plays on words of the German band Rammstein, which engages socially taboo topics in its lyrics and thus evokes human primal fears. The goal of this thesis is a literary analysis of selected lyrics with a regard to the related controversial topics. Controversial topics often reflect human weaknesses. This thesis focuses on their literary implementation in lyrics (irony, plays on words and rhetorical and stylistic tools) with a consideration of the accompanying music. Based on the insight gained, the important question is: why has the band Rammstein become a phenomenon of the present time all over the world and why are its lyrics subjects of discussion. The provocation certainly has its roots in the origin of the members of the band, who come from the former DDR, where they did not have the opportunity to openly comment controversial topics.

Čížková, Martina ; Vodrážková, Lenka (advisor) ; Tvrdík, Milan (referee)
The presented thesis contextualizes Joseph Georg Meinert's life and his writings in German spiritual life in the Czech lands at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. It aims to analyze the subject matter of the whole spectrum of his works. His writings attest to the life of this German-speaking teacher, tutor and professor as well as scholar. Equally, they show the cultural and historical development at the time when the patriotism in the Habsburg monarchy begun to evolve. In the thesis Mainert's texts are divided into groups according to their genres and recurring themes and motives. Next, the texts are analyzed by comparison with the information occurring in the secondary literature and the preserved fragments of Meinert's diaries. The results of the analysis confirm that Meinert's creations authentically documented the historical, political and cultural circumstances of that time. The creations influenced not only the patriotically thinking fellows and writers in the Austrian, Czech and German lands, but as an editor he also had influence on the less educated readers of his journals. Meinert's writings were mostly received positively. His poetic work related to the negatively perceived historical events can be seen as an exception. Above that, the analysis showed that...

Following chapters aim to illuminate the state of the fine art in North Bohemia region after the Second World War.The practical part of the thesis examines the life and work of a Sudeten German painter Fritz Gärtner: his early work from his hometown Ústí nad Labem, his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and his first considerable exhibition named Arbeit (Labor). The research provides us with new findings that complement previous findings from my bachelor's thesis, which was focused on interpretation of selected Gärtners paintings, resulting in a complete monography of the Sudeten German painter. The research was based on secondary literature concerning the fine art in North Bohemia region and provides a broad scale of new facts about the artistic creation and life of painters within fine art associations in the 20th century.
