The Novel Shengsi pilao by Mo Yan and Historical Fiction in the Contemporary Chinese Literature
Hovorková, Petra ; Andrš, Dušan (advisor) ; Lomová, Olga (referee)
The novel Shengsi pilao, written by a contemporary Chinese author Mo Yan, is a free continuation of authorʼs preceding writings recounting the lives of family clans in the Shandong province countryside during the 20th century. The novel employs a specific literary style in exploring history of the PCR from 1949 to 2000, using a story of a landownerʼs soul reincarnating itself to several different animals to be finally born as an extraordinary child. Some of authorʼs preceding works were characterized as "new historical fiction (NHF)", a wave of last century late 80ʼs Chinese fiction. NHF revives some of traditional Chinese fiction narrative techniques and introduces certain literary innovations at the same time. Thus it differs from earlier historical fiction, both traditional and modern. Its main characteristic is deconstruction of authorial representation, challenge to legitimacy of the official history and negation of Chinese modernity. This theses brings forward an analysis of narrative techniques, subjects and general meaning of the novel within the context of authorʼs previous work and considers its relation to NHF.

Zheng Chouyu - the life and works of the classic author of Taiwanese
'Drinking wine' by Tao Yuanming
Fuksa, Daniel ; Lomová, Olga (advisor) ; Zádrapa, Lukáš (referee)
Thesis abstract The aim of this thesis is to show the basic meanings of wine (jiu 酒) in some of Tao Yuanming's poems, titles of which contain the word 'wine'. The first chapter of the present work concerns itself with the main question of the thesis as well as the theoretical approaches towards the interpretation of the Chinese poetry and gives a brief biography of Tao Yuanming and the intellectual background of his works. The second chapter with its detailed interpretation of all the poems from Tao Yuanming's series 'Twenty Poems After Drinking Wine' (Yin jiu ershi shou 飲酒二十首) represents the main part of the work. The third chapter is dedicated to the poems 'On Stopping Wine' ( Zhi jiu 止酒) and 'An Account of Wine' (Shu jiu 述酒). The second and third chapter also include an annotated translation of all of the poems into Czech. In the case of the poem 'An Account of Wine', it is the first translation to the Czech language so far. The two remaining chapters deal with the motif of wine and its various meanings in the above-mentioned poems. The work shows that the motif of wine in Tao Yuanming's poems can carry different meanings that might be divided into several categories. Those categories of the motif of wine correspond to the poet's attitudes to life as presented by his works.

Dong Qichang's Texts on Painting and their Relationship to Mi Fu's History of Painting Michaela PEJČOCHOVÁ Doctoral dissertation summary The study entitled Dong Qichang's Texts on Painting and their Relationship to Mi Fu's History of Painting presents an analysis of the critical texts on painting by two important figures of the old Chinese art world, Dong Qichang (1555-1636) and Mi Fu (1051-1107). It is based on the conviction that old historical and critical treatises on painting record information important for our understanding of the actual painting practice in ancient periods, which is difficult or even impossible to document by the surviving pictorial evidence. Both authors of the texts discussed here were scholars, artists, critics and collectors and counted among the foremost literati of their day - Mi Fu was one of the initiators of the "literati culture" during the Northern Song period (960-1127), while Dong Qichang with his theories was highly influential during its late phase. Their texts thus document literati opinions on the aesthetics and history of painting in their respective periods. The focus of the study is the corpus of Dong Qichang's texts on painting that includes treatises like The Significance of Painting (Huazhi), Notes from the Studio for Meditation over Painting (Huachanshi...
