Myth and Reality: The Czech Assistants of Le Corbusier 1924-1937
Hrabová, Martina ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Švácha, Rostislav (referee) ; Murray, Irena (referee)
The impetus for this study was the question of whether the information, which has been handed down on Czech architects who worked with Le Corbusier is true or not. Working in the studio of one of the leading architects of the 20th century was a crucial formative experience for dozens of architects while also being an attractive entry in their résumés. The doctoral thesis Myth and Reality: The Czech Assistants of Le Corbusier 1924-1937 is based on vast research of primary sources abroad as well as in the Czech Republic. The thesis critically examines the information known in the literature until now. The study aims to look behind the curtain of the formation of the existing historiography of Czech architectural modernism. It proves that architects themselves often entered history by means of their self- promotion skills. Parts of the thesis consist of a verified and critical list of Czech assistants at Le Corbusier's studio in 35 rue de Sèvres in Paris, detailed analysis of how work was conducted in the studio and an analysis of related sources. The work presents 13 Czech architects who worked in the studio of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in the period between the two World Wars. The study follows individual forms of dialogue between young architects and Le Corbusier. In some cases, the research of...
The St. Barbora cathedral in Kutná Hora. Architectural work of master Hanuš and Matěj Rejsek
V předkládané rigorózní práci je obsah předchozí studie rozšířen o osobnost a dílo mistra Hanuše, prvního stavitele chrámu v pozdně gotickém období a o prohloubené poznání samotného Rejskova díla.
Automatic topology recognition and network monitoring based on FreeBSD
MACEK, Petr
The goal of the Bachelor Thesis is the creation of system tool for topology recognition and following LAN monitoring. This tool will be built on OS FreeBSD and formed like bootable image suitable for running from the USB stick. Besides the lower layers protocols TCP/IP, the protocol SNMP will be used for topology recognition and network monitoring. The tool will monitor state, network transmissions and other values at active network components too. Communication with the user will be realized via www interface. The goal is to create the tool executable on any computer without installation, to perform quick topology recognition, its visualisation and basic monitoring. It is supposed to be the opposite of the tools of NMS type that need installation on server, database server and have other requirements.
The role of clonal plants in wetlands
MACEK, Petr
This thesis is focused on clonal growth traits and their response to changing environment in wetlands. Specifically, plant responses to both abiotic (e.g. waterlogging, salinity) and biotic (surrounding vegetation) stressors were evaluated in field and mesocosm experiments. Trait responses to additions of contrasting concentrations of nutrients and their implications for wetland heterogeneity were studied.
Depressive symptoms in adolescents: an influence of age, gender, and relationships to personal characteristics and to perception of family environment
Macek, Petr ; Řehulková, Oliva ; Řehulka, Evžen
Two cohorts of adolescents (12 years old , n=441 and 16 years old, n=325) completed The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) an other instruments regarding family environment, self-esteem, and personality traits. Results revealed that a frequency of depressive symptoms is related to neuroticism but an influence of extraversion is not clear. Moreover, an optimism, self-esteem, and positive relationships to parents are significant predictors for both mentioned age groups.
Reaction of adolescents to the problems in family: connection with self-esteem and with self-efficacy
Osecká, Lída ; Macek, Petr ; Řehulková, Oliva
The presented study is oriented to the description of relationships between adolescent coping strategies in family context and self-self variables. A sample of 316 respondents (132 girls, 184 boys, aged from 16-19) completed a survey including invetories regarding an using of different coping strategies in their own family environment. Also, both self variables, self-efficacy and self-esteem, were derived from relevant items of scales. Results did not confirm all our presumptions: Self-efficacy is mainly related to the non-expression of negative emotions (as a coping staretgy), less important predictor (but also significant) is an active rational coping. Social support is positively related to self-efficacy in girls only. In regard to boys, this relationship is negative. Self-esteem is positively related to the non-expression of negative emotions in boys, the active rational coping is significant predictor of self-esteem in girls.

Macek, Petr
The first part is a contemporary view on adolescence of adulthood. Adolescence is not conceived only as a unique period of the life of individual, it is also a social phenomenon. Social representation of adolescence has been creating for 150 years. Achievement of identity is considered as a basic evolutional task related to period of adolescence. Concept of crisis, obligation and moratorium are associated to the solution of identity. Adolescent moratorium in relation with exploration means an opportunity, challenge, but also some health and social risk. The second part deals with changes in common behaviour and experience of Czech adolescents in last ten years - 90s. The results point out that Czech adolescents increasingly resemble to the West European adolescents. (in daily activities, future expectations).
