Information flowing through informal communication channels in an organization

Thesis titled "Information flowing through informal communication channels in an Organization" discusses the basic issues and characteristics of the information as a result of informal communication channels in the organizations. Thesis defines the basic theoretical concepts and deals with a typology of communication channels within the organization. An important section is the chapter focusing on characteristics and mode of transmission of information flowing through the informal communication channels, in which is not presented only the informal structure of 5 relations, informal groups in the organization and communication networks, but also the most frequent occurrence of informal communication channels. The thesis also describes the advantages and disadvantages of this information. It also includes research based on an email-sent questionnaire. The aim of the analysis was the finding which the informal communication channels are the most widely used in the Municipal Library in Břeclav and what is the reason for their popularity.

The Information Control in the Information Channel on an Example of Gatekeeping Mechanism

This master thesis is devoted to the theoretical framework and the background for the information control in an information channel with a chapter on the specific form of control information, that is the gatekeeping mechanism. The practical part focuses on the research in the Christian community and to identify methods of gatekeeping mechanisms in this group. The second chapter introduces the key concepts of the thesis such as information theory. The third chapter summarizes the operation and types of censorship and information control process, and points out the signal noise in the transmission of an information. The fourth chapter describes the historical development and transformation in the understanding of gatekeeping, including the new concept of gatekeeping on the network level. The fifth chapter focuses on the dynamics of information control, especially for using in decision-making, knowledge sharing and gatekeeper's acting according to his type of behavior. The sixth and seventh chapter deals with the research itself, including the accompanying document, the determination of a methodology, a representative sample, etc.

Sharing of Information and Knowledge in Internal Organization Communication

The dissertation considers information and knowledge sharing in internal communication of organization. It describes the process of information and knowledge sharing and highlights the factors that have effect on it. Furthermore, the effect of information and communication technologies use on the process is discussed. Information and knowledge sharing among employees can be managed in particular by creating a favourable organizational climate, strengthening relations between employee and organization and motivating employees. Information and communication technologies enable this process by overcoming communication barriers, however their effect on sharing of information and knowledge is limited and depends on concrete tools [Author's abstract]. 5

Information Overload as a Barrier to Information Sharing in an Organization

This thesis deals with information overload as one of the barriers to information sharing within an organization. The aim of this work is to summarize current findings on this phenomenon and subsequently apply these findings to a particular organization operating in the Czech Republic. The first chapter offers a definition of information overload and explains terms related to this topic. It demonstrates how information overload influences people and what kind of people incline to suffer from information overload. Furthermore this chapter introduces a historical background together with significant current researches in this area. The following two chapters focus first on the ways information is communicated within an organization and second on how computer mediated communication (especially via e-mail, instant messaging and Intranet) contributes to information overload. The suggested solutions come mainly from foreign literature. In the final chapter the theoretical knowledge is applied to a practical case study, in which possible causes of information overload are analysed. The case study focuses on a specific department of Accenture Services Ltd. The emphasis is again placed on e-mail, instant messaging and Intranet. Functions of language in the history of communication. Processing resources for a multimedial e-learning project

Bakalářská práce zpracovává podklady pro e-learningový projekt Dějiny komunikace, připravovaný pedagogy Vyšší odborné školy informačních služeb (VOŠIS), a dokumentuje průběh jejich zpracovávání. Práce se tematicky zaměřuje na oblast role a fungování jazyka v dějinách komunikace, a to v širší historické perspektivě. V úvodu je stručně nastíněna problematika distančního vzdělávání a detailněji pak samotná oblast e-learningu, jeho specifik a využití v České republice a na VOŠIS. V další části je představen a stručně charakterizován připravovaný e-learningový projekt Dějiny komunikace a v jeho rámci pak i vlastní téma jazykové komunikace, jazykových funkcí a samotný dílčí projekt Funkce jazyka v dějinách komunikace. Jádrem práce je popis východisek, průběhu a výsledků informační analýzy provedené ke zvolenému užšímu tématu projektu. Overview and analysis of competitive intelligence information resources

Tématem práce je přehled a analýza informačních zdrojů pro konkurenční zpravodajství (CI - Competitive intelligence). Cílem práce je detailní popis fáze sběru informací. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a praktickou část. V teoretické části práce je představen obor CI, popsán současný stav CI, pojetí CI ve světě a v České republice, historický přehled, definice, cyklus CI a terminologie. V dalších kapitolách jsou představeny etické aspekty CI, typologie informačních zdrojů využitelných pro CI a směry vývoje ve zpracování informací pro CI. Praktická část se zabývá přehledem a porovnáním vybraných aspektů informačních zdrojů. V rámci praktické části diplomové práce jsou stanoveny dvě hypotézy: "Vybrané veřejné informační zdroje se od sebe značně liší ve všech použitých kritériích" a "Jednou z hlavních přidaných hodnot komerčních informačních zdrojů je schopnost agregovat volně vyhledatelné informace na jednom místě." Výsledky hypotéz jsou uvedeny v závěru práce.

Methods and techniques of competitive analysis

Tato rigorózní práce popisuje analýzu jako jednu ze součástí procesu sledování konkurenčního prostředí (dále již jen Competitive Intelligence), kdy jsou shromážděné informace hodnoceny, analyzovány a interpretovány ve světle celkového obrázku situace dané organizace. V úvodu je poskytnut teoretický úvod do Competitive Intelligence, nastínění historie a účelu této disciplíny, popsání jednotlivých druhů přístupů a uchopení tohoto tématu jak v akademické, tak komerční sféře. Práce se dále teoreticky zabývá tématem etiky, vlivem Competitive Intelligence na krátkodobou a dlouhodobou strategii organizace a identifikací rozhodujících změn, které lze v tomto oboru do budoucna očekávat. Klíčovou částí práce je popis základních koncepcí, definic a cílů fenoménu analýzy, shrnutí jejích hlavních vzorů a implikací, následované stručnou charakteristikou vybraných analytických metod s vymezením jejich slabostí a omezení. Analytické metody jsou tématicky rozděleny na: strategické techniky, techniky analýzy konkurenta a zákazníka, techniky analýzy prostředí, techniky evoluční analýzy a techniky finanční analýzy, u třech metod (SWOT, analýzy konkurenta a analýzy variant vývoje) je uveden i detailnější profil. Environmental electronic information resources for management and decision making on the level of municipal politics

Tématem práce jsou environmentální informační potřeby obcí a jejich pokrytí prostřednictvím elektronických informačních zdrojů budovaných státní správou. Práce si klade za cíl na základě vymezení environmentálních informací a jejich organizování zmapovat informační potřeby pro oblast životního prostředí průměrné obce. Následně zodpovědět otázku, zda tyto potřeby jsou dostatečně uspokojovány prostřednictvím elektronických informačních zdrojů budovaných státní správou, a to zejména webovými stránkami jednotlivých krajských úřadů. Úvodní teoretická část se věnuje ujasnění pojmů a kompetencí na poli veřejné správy, dále osvětlení termínů environmentální informace, environmentální informační systémy a environmentální metainformační systém. Jádrem práce je dotazníkový výzkum informačních potřeb starostů malých obcí z oblasti životního prostředí a na základě získaných zjištění podrobná analýza webových stránek jednotlivých krajských úřadů.

Purpose-built Modifications of Information in the Communication Process

This diploma thesis aims to describe and assess the possibilities of purpuse-built modification (altering) of information that can occur during the communication process. Basic theoretical terms - the phenomenon of information and communication process - are explained in the first two chapters. Various techniques which can be used during the modification of information like playing with context or concealment of some important parts of the information are specified after that. One episode of talk show Otázky Václava Moravce is analysed in the fourth chapter.
