Evaluation of geographical textbooks in terms of environmental ethics
Seidlová, Martina ; Kučerová, Silvie Rita (referee) ; Matějček, Tomáš (advisor)
It is clear that the nature needs to be protected. But reasons for this need varies with individuals. Enviromental ethics deals with reasons why the nature should be protected and with attitude to the nature itself. In enviromental ethics there are several lines of thought. Here will be paid attention to theese five - theocentrism, athropocentrism, biocentrism, ecocentrism and lifeboat ethics. The aim of this study is to assess the level of representation of lines of though metioned above in Czech geographical textbooks. Considering that there are many of geographical textbooks, only textbooks designated for different types of high schools of publishers NČCGS, SPN, Fortuna and Fragment are evaluated.
Revitalisation of post-mining sites
Veselý, Martin ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee) ; Chuman, Tomáš (advisor)
This work introduces and compares some basic facts about recultivation and alternative methods of restoration, such is revitalization and natural succession. Recultivation is the way of quick revegetation, but it's expensive and in many cases contraproductive considering biodiversity of recultivated sites. Whereas, approaches based on principles of ecological restoration have many positives. They can create much valuable landscape structures and ecosystems than recultivation, and they enhance biodiversity and conservation of rare species.
The Education of Geography for Visually Impaired in Czechia
Míková, Hana ; Kühnlová, Hana (advisor) ; Matějček, Tomáš (referee)
7 ABSTRACT This thesis deals with problems of geography education of visually impaired students. The ambition of the thesis is presentation of a new concept of geography education on special schools for visually impaired students. On the basis of research of geography education on Secondary School for Visually Impaired in Prague-Jinonice is processed the model that presents possibilities of modern educational methods and organizational forms of education of visually impaired students. The thesis consists of several topical chapters. Firstly there are described the problems of visually impaired generally, especially there are defined basic terms. Next chapter deals with education for visually impaired and with special schools for these students in the Czech Republic. Then there is a chapter which describes concretely geography education for these students; at first there is described geography education generally in Czech education system, then there are mentioned methods, organisational forms and special instruments of geography education and in conclusion there is presented conception of geography education with specialities characteristic for visually impaired. The two last chapters offer new benefit. There is analysed conception of geography education on Secondary School for Visually Impaired in Prague-...
The invasive neophytes' occurrence in the riverbank vegetation
Matějček, Tomáš ; Lipský, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Mandák, Bohumil (referee) ; Lacina, Jan (referee)
Resumé The aim of this thesis is to summarize actual results of the field research of invasive neophytes' occurrence in the riverbank vegetation of selected water courses in the Czech Republic. In total approximately 850 km of the riverbank vegetation was mapped using author's own method. The riverbank vegetation was defined according to Novak et al. (1986) as the vegetation belt along a water course with boundaries represented by the water surface and the riverbank edge. The occurence of 22 most important invasive neophytes (sensu Pyšek et al. 2002) was registered using a logarithmical scale (1 = 1-9 specimen, 2 = 10-99 specimen, 3 = 100-999 specimen etc.). Some related species were not recognized (following species were aggregated together: Galinsoga parviflora and G. ciliata; Solidago gigantea and S. canadensis; Parthenocissus quinquefolia a P. inserta and Reynoutria japonica, R. sachalinensis and R. × bohemica). In total, occurence of 17 taxons was registered. The field research was conducted during the summer period of 2006, 2007 or 2008. Development in the years 2006 and 2008 could be compared for 218 segments, that was mapped in both time relations. The occurrence of invasive neophytes (17 taxons) was registered for each of the 500 m long segments (in total 1693 segments was mapped). The number of...
The invasive neophytes' occurrence in the riverbank vegetation

The aim of this thesis is to summarize actual results of the field research of invasive neophytes' occurrence in the riverbank vegetation of selected water courses in the Czech Republic. In total approximately 850 km of the riverbank vegetation was mapped using author's own method. The occurrence of invasive neophytes (17 taxons) was registered for each of the 500 m long segments (in total 1693 segments was mapped). The number of specimen was registered using a logarithmical scale. Segments were defined using river navigation or important points of orientation (e. g. bridges or weirs). Total number of taxons, total number of specimen, simple index of invasive neophytes load (Is) and weighted index of invasive neophytes load (Iw) were calculated for each segment. The number of specimen was derived from registered values such as the mean value of the interval. The weighted index of invasive neophytes' load takes into account plant size, it's life history and potencial risk for indigenous flora or people and human activities. The number of specimen of each taxon is weighted by certain coefficient. The value of weighted index of invasive neophytes' load and some other characteristics are presented for parts of the water courses (i. e. groups of neighbouring segments with similar geographical and...
