Barn owl occurence in the Kalsbad region and analysis of its pellets
Koudelková, Lucie ; Řezníček, Jan (referee) ; Andreska, Jan (advisor)
The submitted thesis deals with several topics. First part is aimed at the Barn Owl occurrence in the Karlsbad region and in districts of Sokolov and Cheb in particular. Mapping of the owl occurrences is based on detailed survey of the presumed habitats, e.g. on the investigation of various activity indicators in a studied area. This bird has not been observed in the Sokolov and Cheb districts since 1998. My research demonstrates that Barn Owl is occurring in the Sokolov and Cheb districts again. Next part of the thesis deals with the analysis of the Barn Owl pellets found at the roosting places. In another part, analysis of the diet spectrum of the Barn Owl is submitted. Yet another part presents results of the Barn Owl diet composition based on the pellet analysis. The species of small mammals in Barn Owl pellets were determined according to their skeletal remnants. Analysis of the Barn Owl pellets in the studied area shows that the dominat species in the Barn Owl diet is Common Vole (Microtus arvalis) and subdominant species are the species of the family Shrews (Sorex sp., Crocidura sp., Neomys sp).
The Census of the Pigeon Population (Columba livia f. domestica) that Flew Over the Motolské Valley and the Census of this Species
Primas, Karel ; Ziegler, Václav (referee) ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor)
From November 2007 to February 2009 we censused feral Domestic Pigeons {Columba livia f. domestica) by means of the linear transect method and the observation method in Prague. We dealt with the ones that flew over the Motolské valley or stayed in the observed territories during the census - the Motolské valley, the Arbesovo square and the Kinských square. The purpose of this work was to learn the number of birds in these populations and hereby contribute to finding the number of the feral pigeons in the whole capital city of Prague. At the same time we investigated relationships between the number of pigeons and abiotic factors (the temperature of the air, the weather), the part of the day, the season of the year and the harvest season. The number of pigeons which were flying through the Motolské valley were on the average of 960 birds / one census (the detected maximum was 6 555), in the Motolské valley were present 60 pigeons / one census on the average (the detected maximum was 192), and in the squares were 50 birds /one census on the average (the detected maximum was 347). We have not found any relationships between the number of pigeons which were flying through the Motolské valley, and abiotic factors, the part of the day, the season of the year or the harvest season. On the other hand we have found...

Drvot's Educational Footpath - the Project of Reconstruction and Usage in Biology Education
Netušilová, Michala ; Řezníček, Jan (referee) ; Ziegler, Václav (advisor)
The theme of this thesis is the project for reconstruction of the historical and biological Drvot's Educational Footpath which goes through the stream-basin of middle 'Kačák' in the surrounding of 'Záplavy*, the nature reserve in the Kladno region. Theoretical part contains the geomorphology description of Kladno area, as well as the geology of Kladno district in relation to the past coal mining activity, relevant environmental protection directives, historical development of this educational footpath and the content summary of the current informative boards. In addition the theoretical part includes the list presenting the status of birds currently nesting in or moving through this particular ornithological locality 'Malé a Velké Záplavy'. Practical part of this thesis includes concepts of new educational boards for Drvot's Educational Footpath that are focused more on biological matters and carried out by modem and attractive way in comparison to the old ones. The attractivity and great accessibility of this locality offers a unique opportunity for its educational usage. In particular for excursions from both nearby village schools and schools from Kladno and other cities. This is also the reason for including the drafts of working sheets with author's answers in this thesis.
Postcranial skeleton of small mammals in biology education
Šmídová, Kateřina ; Mourek, Jan (referee) ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor)
This master thesis demonstrates feasibility of identification of small rodents in the pellets of Long-eared Owl {Asio otus) using pelvic bones and postcranial skeleton in biology classes. The first part of the text summarizes theoretical information on mammalian skeleton and owl pellets with in-class activities suggested. The methodology chapter describes methods of owl pellets collection and preparation, and subsequent processing of osteologic fragments extracted from the pellets. A list and relative distribution of small rodent species found during the analysis are included as well as a key for identification of small rodents using skeleton tragments. The outcome of the thesis are four teaching units that were successfully tested by the author on students from eight- and four-year Grammar Schools.
Experimental testing of reactivity of huzul horses
Horáková, Veronika ; Ehler, Edvard (referee) ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor)
This thesis experimentally tested the reactivity of 39 horses from which there were 19 huzuls, 10 Czech warmblood horses, 1 Noriker, 1 crossbreed of thoroughbred and Lipizzaner horse, 1 coldblood horse, 3 half-blood horses and 4 thoroughbreds. The objective of the thesis was to compare the reactivity of Huzul horses used for hippotherapy and training of children with a control group of horses used for recreational riding, and asses the suitability of huzul horses for use in hippotherapy from a reactivity point of view. During the test horses were presented with four objects (a moving and vocalizing toy of piglet, a mirror, an umbrella and a ball). Each of those was presented to the horse for 20 sec. The reactions of the horses to each of the objects were evaluated and used to calculate an avarage reactivity score for each horse. Based on the results of the statistical analysis, it was shown that the reactivity of the huzul horses used in hippotherapy and training of children was lower than that of the control group.

An Educational Project for a Field Seminar for Grammar Schools based on the Ecology and the Living Environment of Rakovnik
Kouklíková, Monika ; Řezníček, Jan (referee) ; Skýbová, Jana (advisor)
This thesis is supposed to offer all the background to the teachers of biology and ecology of the Grammar Schools in Rakovník for the conducting of a natural historical seminary which most often takes place in the forth grade with a view to ecology of Rakonik and its surroundings. The intention of this seminary is the expansion of now studied subject matter of ecology in the lessons of biology with a great emphasis on the connection of nature and ecology of Rakovník. Considering the fact that there are no publications that examine this problem from the whole the searching for information about Rakovník and its surroundings in different sources and its subsequent utilisation in lessons of biology and ecology was very complicated and troublesome for the teachers. This thesis aims to help the teachers with this problem. It expressively saves labour with the praparation for lessons and not only in above-mentioned seminary but also during the biology lessons in all grades. The connection of interpretation and the examples from the close surroundings can be a great motive to the students. This natural historical seminary also has another targets. One of them is a spontaneous repeating of some chapters in biology studied in the lower grades, which is supposed to help students with their preparation for the school...
