The use of otoliths for growth and population dynamics studies of Percidae and Cyprinidae in Most water reservoir
Tůmová, Eliška ; Frouzová, Jaroslava (advisor) ; Pivnička, Karel (referee)
This Master thesis compares growth of Percidae and Cyprinidae in flooded mining pit Most with water reservoir Vír, which is stable, fifty years old. Fish were cought using toils by workers from Hydrobiology institute, Academy of Sciences, Czech Republic, which are exploring fish stock. Otoliths, scales, and operculas from both families, Cyrinidae and Percidae, were removed from fish for age determination and growth back-calculation in individual years. Due to surplus of nutrients and food in flooding mining pit is assumed a huge growth difference in the first two years of life. The aim of this thesis is not only to describe the difference in the expected growth of individual species, but also to estimate its causes. At the same time will be in a very contrasting conditions compared different methods of age determination. Key words: otolith, fish age, fish population, fish growth, water reservoir, flooded mining pit, growth back-calculations
Influence of Diet on Blood Lipid Levels in Dyslipidemic Patients
Paroha, Josef ; Zlatohlávek, Lukáš (advisor) ; Tůmová, Eva (referee)
The primary aim of this thesis is to determine whether the hypolipidemic diet has an influence on blood lipid levels in patients with dyslipidemia. The secondary aim is to find out the eating habits of patients with dyslipidemia and to determine whether their eating habits are in line with the basics of a hypolipidemic diet. To achieve these targets a questionnaire, biochemical examination of blood and education of dyslipidemic patients on the appropriate diet were used. My research contained check-in and check-out laboratory blood examinations. After check-in examination each patient filled in the questionnaire with questions targeted at eating habits and then the patient was educated about the appropriate diet. After three months' time the patients proceeded to check-out laboratory blood examination. The necessary data were acquired by comparing the results of the check-in and check-out blood examinations and by the questionnaires evaluation. This thesis in its research confirmed the positive influence of hypolipidemic diet on blood lipids levels in patients with dyslipidemia. At the end of the research the average level of total cholesterol was 10,5 % lower, the average level of LDL-cholesterol was 18,9 % lower and the average level of triacylglycerol was 10,6 % lower. On the contrary the...
Emerging cardiovascular risk markers in diagnostics and therapy
Tůmová, Eva ; Vrablík, Michal (advisor) ; Freiberger, Tomáš (referee) ; Polák, Jan (referee)
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) have been one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in developed countries with an enormous influence on individual health and significant socioeconomic impact as well. The aim of most physicians in recent decades is to seek the best possible predicative risk factor (RF) (or combination of several RF) which could help to determine the individual risk of developing CVD. This risk stratification can be used to identify the high risk patients and treatment intensification or establishment of early preventive measures. Currently, several RF of atherosclerosis and CVD are commonly used to individualize health care. However, individuals with low levels of these RF suffer of CVD, therefore the effort to find as much as possible specific RF still persists. In recent years, the inflammatory markers, crucial in the atherosclerosis development, raise great expectation In our studies, we focused on investigating the levels of inflammatory parameters in specific groups of patients (obese children and patients with metabolic syndrome) and observed the effect of weight loss following lifestyle changes. Our main concern was lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2), oxidized LDL particles (ox-LDL) and myeloperoxidase (MPO). The results demonstrated significantly...
Effect of education on blood lipid levels in patients with dyslipidemia
Klíčová slova dyslipidemie, ateroskleróza, dietní a režimová...
Impact of crude oil price on macroeconomic indicators in major oil producing countries
Tůmová, Eva
The diploma thesis investigates the effect of oil price fluctuations on selected macroeconomic indicators for a set of four oil-producing countries. It provides a general overview of the development in oil prices as well as the oil production and presents a more thorough analysis of the oil production, consumption and trade in the selected countries. It utilizes the methods of Vector Autoregression, Granger causality and Impulse response via the econometric software Gretl in the analysis of the effects and compares the current literature with quantitative results.

This diploma thesis deals with the role of nutrition in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. The theoretical part describes basic knowledge about cardiovascular diseases, prevalence, risk factors and the importance of nutrition in their prevention and treatment. The theoretical part describes in detail the effect of intake of carbohydrates, fiber, describes the role of glycemic index of foods, fat intake and their chemical composition, minerals, alcohol and coffee. One part of the theoretical part also describes the role of nutrition in the treatment. The research part is devoted to the dietary habits of patients who have already had an acute myocardial infarction. The aim of the research is to find out whether patients follow current recommendations for the prevention and treatment of CVD, or how the actual diets of these patients differ from recommendations. The data were collected using a questionnaire filled in during interviews with selected patients. It was found out that patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction have insufficient knowledge to build a balanced diet, or that nutritional recommendations are consciously violated. Problematic is especially the choice of fats, the unbalanced composition of the diet, the frequent consumption of too fat and sweet...
