Media portrayal of Andrej Babis before the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of Parliament of the Czech republic in 2017

The Master's thesis focuses on the creation of the media image of one of the most distinctive and controversial current Czech politicians, Andrej Babiš, in the period prior to the 2017 general elections in the Czech Republic. The media image building process is viewed through the lens of agenda-setting theory in major daily newspapers and the Facebook page of ANO, Mr. Babiš's party. The aim of the thesis is to use mixed research to describe the creation of Mr. Babiš's media persona and to determine whether media discourse was influenced by intermedia agenda-setting process. In the quantitative analysis of this research, the volume and content of topics established by Mr. Babiš's media activity will be explored. The topic with the greatest relevancy and frequency will be used to determine the framework of the creation of Mr. Babiš's media image, discuss to what extent Mr. Babiš managed to control the outcome, and what role was played by the intermedia agenda-setting process. Far-right Parties in Czech Media before 2017 Parliament Elections

Topic of the thesis is the image of Czech far-right parties in Czech media prior to Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017. Aim of the thesis is to investigate how media displays far-right parties prior to the Elections in 2017, what the topics of media coverage are in regards of far- right and how the topics changed in the Elections in 2017 comparing with Elections in 2013. Using quantitative content analysis and theory of agenda-setting the thesis monitors texts with far-right topics in national daily newspapers Mladá fronta DNES, Lidové noviny, Právo and Hospodářské noviny in the periods prior to the Elections to Chamber of Deputies in 2017 and 2013. Author also uses qualitative analysis of opinion texts based on theory of framing. The parties followed in thesis are chosen based on definition of far-right by Cas Mudde and definition of right wing populism by Hans-Georg Betz. Journalist as a digital nomad

This diploma thesis deals with digital nomadism (modern way of teleworking, enabled mainly by the existence of internet and social networks) and implications of this phenomenon for journalistic environment and media functioning. In the Czech environment, this issue has been explored so far, and digital nomadism is rapidly changing in view of the rapid technological development of the media environment on the internet. The author wanted to add this gap to the thesis, both in theory and in primary research. Through interviews with specific digital nomads (especially Czechs and Czechs), she tries to answer basic questions about how the digital nomads actually happened, their motivation, the specifics of their work and, last but not least, whether it is possible as a digital nomad - actually a journalist to feed. The image of the fefugee crisis in the main news selection of FTV Prima

When the refugee crisis striked Europe in 2015, czech society found itself on intellectual intersection which influenced media discours of refugee issue. Therefore some of the media were critisized for bias manner of refugee topic coverage. Considering FTV Prima, the suspision of non- compliance of objectivity grew rapidly after the audioreport release of meeting, where leadership of this television confined its employees to report about refuugee crisis as a threat and danger. This work reflects the issue of influencing the broadcast of commercial television by the proprietor. In the first part of this bachelor thesis the terminology concerning refugee phenomenon is defined and the relationship of czech society to imigrants is analyzed. Morover, topics of media theory are explained including media content output, agenda setting, objectivity, bias and influence of mass media to society. The Media Image of Czech Republic in the Arabic web news

The bachelor thesis titled "The Media Image of the Czech Republic in Arabic Web News" is focused on the analysis of the media representation of the Czech Republic in Arabic Web News, namely in al-Jazeera, al-Arabiya and ORTAS. This analysis is focused on the period from June 2015 to June 2016. This was mainly due to the fact that in Europe culminated the migration crisis and in the Czech Republic escalated the anti-Muslim moods and also there were demonstrations against refugees and new anti-Muslim movements. The overall goal of the thesis is to determine how the media image of the Czech Republic is presented in studied media and how are the resulting media images different from each other. The analysis has been made by combining quantitative and qualitative content analysis on a sample of 434 contributions that mentioned the Czech Republic. Through a quantitative content analysis the thesis find out which media space the Arab media has provided to the Czech Republic. After obtaining the results of quantitative content analysis and identifying the key parameters, the thesis tries to explore the deeper causes and the broader context by using qualitative analysis.
Media environment of the People's Republic of China

Diploma thesis "An analysis of the media environment of the People's Republic of China" deals with the functioning of the media system of the PRC. The introductory chapter focuses on the evolution of the media system from the early beginning up to present, emphasis was placed on the period starting with the establishment of the republic in 1949. The main events which greatly influenced the current form of the media system were underlined. The evolution of the system is enriched by historical, political and cultural context. The periods of governance of both Mao Zedong and subsequent reformist Deng Xiaoping, who is known especially for his commencement of economic reforms in PRC, were analysed. A significant part of the diploma thesis is devoted to the basic characteristics features of the media environment of PRC, namely to the system of media regulation, self-censorship, censorship and propaganda. To demonstrate the significance and specificity of particular features of the media system, some main events were selected as examples and further analysed. Diploma thesis "Public presentation of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic in selected Czech media" deals with public presentation of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic (ACR) and Ministry of Defense (furthermore the department of defense). Nowadays, it is necessary to work with public and media presentation, and if it is possible, then cooperate with media which help to form the public opinion. One of the goals of our work was to determine whether the department of defense uses any communication manuals and procedures for their public communication, and by using qualitative analysis (interviews and own research of available materials) to explore what is its communication strategy and which tools are used for communication with the public and the media. The goal of quantitative content analysis was to determine how different is an interpretation of events associated with the department of defense in our chosen print media (MF DNES, Blesk) from interpretation of these events in departmental media (journal A report, websites www.army.cz). Media Transformation in Portugal after the Carnation Revolution

This thesis analyzes how the media system and the role of the media in society have changed over time in Portugal. It focuses on the period of the dictatorship Estado Novo, the period of the media transition after the Carnation Revolution, and the media in the 21st century. Since the media transition would not be possible without the political transition of the authoritarian regime, this thesis will also address the overall context of the transition. The theoretical part analyzes the Mediterranean or polarized pluralist model of media from Halllin and Mancini. According to the authors, this model describes the current Portuguese media system. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the model is applicable to all periods of Portuguese history of the 20 and 21st century or whether at some point the media system can be described by another Hallin and Mancini's model or whether it is necessary to use a different classification from other authors.

Thesis "Selected aspects of the war news in Czech daily newspapers on the example of the war in Croatia" analyze approach Czech printed media to reporting on the war in Croatia. This work verifies the existence of selected journalistic routines, using by journalists when they reporting on military conflicts, that was emerged from the study of foreign research, through quantitative analysis of the front pages of Mladá fronta Dnes and Rudé právo from the years 1991 to 1995. The theoretical part of this thesis is devoted to news reporting, with an emphasis on the sociology of sources, then composes the theory of framing and finally assesses the role of the media in military conflicts. The practical part is a research project based on foreign research that evaluates the use of sources in war reporting and processes the anchoring of themes of conflict in Croatia with the use of quantitative analytical methods. The aim of the research is to obtain results related to the issue of informing the Czech media about the war, and their subsequent comparison with results of foreign researches on the issue of reporting on wars.
