Three (four) generations of sculpture family Kitzinger
Loub, Kryštof ; Adamcová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Sekyrka, Tomáš (referee)
Kryštof Loub, Tři (čtyři) generace sochařské rodiny Kitzingerů (diplomová práce), ÚDU FF UK Abstract This MA thesis aims to investigate and verify the current resources and literature about the Kitzinger family of sculptors, who created art in Litoměřice, Milešov, Prague, and Osek for three (even four) generations. Following the first chapter, which aims to critically evaluate the existing research about the family, comes a chapter entirely devoted to archival sources which reference the Kitzinger family. Through these archival sources, including not only contracts for specific works of art and the like, but also registry entries and others, I intend to present the family in their wider socio-cultural context. The greater part of the work is in the chapter focused on the so-called Milešov sculpture workshop (sometime before 1672-1688), founded by Abrahám Kitzinger, of the first generation of sculptors. This text describes and examines individual sculpture commissions conntected to the Kitzingers in northern Bohemia. Two more detailed chapters then focus on the sculpture commissions of Abrahám Felix Kitzinger, representing the middle generation in Prague (1691-1695/6) and then Osek (1696- sometime after 1701). The work concludes with a chapter of transcriptions of the archival documents I worked with in...
Figura velata and its reflection in the Central European surroundings
Magurová, Denisa ; Adamcová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Konečný, Lubomír (referee)
The aim of this thesis was to map the specific phenomenon of 18th century Italian sculpture called "figura velata". It is a female figure with a face veiled in a thin transparent drapery (veil), under which the features of her face are drawn. Illusional treatment of drapery plays with the viewer's vision and creates the impression of something that is not really there. Figura velata was codified as a term especially in connection with the work of the Venetian sculptor Antonio Corradini and his sculptures of this type. The veiling of the human face has been a motif known in the visual arts since ancient times, and in the history of art has played an important role in some cultures and has been associated with various symbolic interpretations. The introduction focuses on clarifying the relationship between the terms of veiling and unveiling or visible and invisible. It is followed by a chapter for which the use of the term veiling in connection with the element of the veil as a bearer of meaning has become the mainstay. A substantial part of the thesis focuses not only on the study of selected sculptural realizations through formal analysis, but also on the meaning of the figure in the over-all iconographic concept. The final part of the thesis is devoted to the reflection and subsequent...
The role of uncoupling proteins (UCP) in cardioprotection
Furmánková, Tereza ; Horníková, Daniela (advisor) ; Adamcová, Kateřina (referee)
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world's leading cause of death. Almost 18 million people die of CVD each year, and the prevalence continues to rise for both men and women. It is now clear that the maintenance of mitochondrial membrane potential can play an important role in the pathophysiology of the heart and it is involved in cardioprotective mechanisms. Mitochondrial membrane potential can be affected in a various of ways, one of them is the stimulation of uncoupling proteins. An elaboration of previous findings in this work has shown that uncoupling proteins have the effect of reducing oxygen radicals, inhibiting apoptosis, affect the production of ATP and atherosclerotic plaques and protect the heart from lipid toxicity. There are several ways to regulate their gene expression, and influencing these pathways may be a way to achieve cardioprotection. Key words: uncoupling proteins, mitochondria, cardioprtoection, thyroid hormones, fatty acids, adipose tissue, reactive oxygen species, FGF21
Baroque sculpture workshop of Andreas Philipp and Johann Anton Quitteiner
Hořák, Martin ; Adamcová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Oulíková, Petra (referee) ; Zápalková, Helena (referee)
The Quitteiner family sculpture workshop operated in Prague from the turn of the 18th century to the year 1765. The span of its existence is delimited on one side by the arrival of its founder, Andreas Philipp Quitteiner (1679-1729), from Frýdlant in northern Bohemia, and on the other side by the death of the upholder of the family tradition, Johann Anton Quitteiner (1709-1765). During the lifetime of Quitteiner Senior the workshop built its reputation as the leading Prague- based sculpture studio. A. F. Quitteiner strengthened his position while working in the Württemberg region in 1709-1712, and then in 1713 and 1714, when he participated together with other Prague artists in decorating the palace residence at Ludwigsburg. After his return to Prague the elder Quitteiner won recognition alongside the most prominent figures of Czech Baroque sculpture F. M. Brokoff and M. B. Braun, and created his best works, including four statues on the side altars of the Holy Family and Saint John of Nepomuk in Saint Thomas's church in Prague's Lesser Quarter. Quitteiner's son Johann Anton learnt his craft in the family workshop which he took over after his father's death. The starting point for his work was the realistic style of his father. He built on this foundation, however, adding to it elements of...
Jakub Teplý - East Bohemian sculpturor on the border of late baroque and neoclassicism
Šafka, Václav ; Adamcová, Kateřina (advisor) ; Macek, Petr (referee)
The basic aim of this bachelor thesis was to research personality and work of late baroque scupltor Jakub Teplý (1729-1802) through archive materials and literature. This sculptor was reliably working in Pardubice, its close regions and in the city of Ledeč nad Sázavou between 1761 and 1797. The motivation for making a detailed medallion and catalogue of the sculptor's work was that he has not received deeper attention of the Czech art history yet - a profile of his life, as well as the history of his works, have been missing. In addition, his work has not been surveyed in the frame of Bohemian sculpture of the second half of the 18th century. A critically-conceived review of all these aspects should have led to a fundamental sum of facts that would make it possible to interpret Teplý through relevant information in the future. In addition to this, a number of topics, which appeared during the research, could be essential for next studies of this sculptor and the wider cultural and historical context of the eastern Bohemian region in the 18th century - such as the sculptor's Viennese studies, his support of Franz Brandstein, his work in Ledeč or the character of the ordering practice in Pardubice in the second half of the 18th century. Key words baroque, rococo, classicism, sculpture, eastern...

A torso of a landscape. The story of a baroque landscape of northern Bohemia.
Drápalová, Kristýna ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Adamcová, Kateřina (referee)
(English) This study has two aims. First, to reconstruct the landscape arrangement of the northern tip of the North Bohemian Basin at the end of the baroque era, focusing on compositional relationships between landscape dominants, both in a scale of pilgrim areas, castles, churches and monasteries and in a scale of chapels and small sculptural and architectonic monuments. The second aim is to, on the example of this - in baroque era extraordinarily rich landscape - examine the phenomenon of the Czech baroque landscape by comparing conclusions of the reconstruction with the widespread conception of compositional principles of baroque landscape. For this purpose, a comprehensive catalogue of architectonic and sculptural monuments in the researched area at about 1780, was compiled. Thereafter a map was created, that shows not only the objects as such, but also the compositional relationships between them. The most important resource for the map was a collection of maps of the First military mapping of Bohemia. In the text, the landscape is described through the perspective of a baroque pilgrim, browsing the landscape along the old roads of three selected routes. The conclusions are then summarized in the final chapter. As a result of my study, I came to the conclusion, that neither the researched...

The Ceremonial Carriages of 17 to 18 century as preserved in the Collections of the Czech Republic
Foltýnová, Marie ; Biegel, Richard (advisor) ; Adamcová, Kateřina (referee) ; Zápalková, Helena (referee)
The aim of this study is to offer a description and evaluation of the ceremonial carriages collections preserved in museums across Bohemia and Moravia, and to put them in the context of European artistic and artisan production in the 16th - 18th century. The study provides an overall account of the development of carriage from technical, as well as art history angle, together with the necessary overview of the issues of courtly hierarchies, ceremonials and visual demonstrations of the modern aristocracy, leading ultimately to the transformation of a simple personal mode of transport into a pompous work of art. Many important Baroque artists took part in carriage construction and decoration, and this study attempts to ascertain the extent of their contribution in this area. By presenting a descriptive summary of the history of the ceremonial carriages found in the collections in Bohemia and Moravia, and providing a comparison study with such carriages from other European countries, we can assert their position within the context of Europe-wide museum collections, as well as provide the opportunity for foreign scholars to take the Czech collections into account in their research.
