Verbal aspect in Czech-German and German-Czech dictionaries
Schleiff, Ute ; Mareš, Petr (advisor) ; Pešička, Jiří (referee)
The present bachelor thesis is focused on dealing with verbal aspect (perfectiveness and imperfectiveness) in contemporary Czech-German and German-Czech dictionaries. This category, which occurs in the Czech language, unlike in German, is on the boundary of grammar and semantics. The theoretical part of this thesis summarizes the general concept of this verbal aspect and the ways of expressing it in German. The extent to which dictionaries deal with this category depends on the target groups of dictionary users. After the introduction to the problem of bilingual dictionaries, three currently used Czech-German and German-Czech dictionaries were chosen for the detail analysis. The present research of verbal aspect as it is tackled in these dictionaries, the Czech verbal perfectiveness and imperfectiveness, and their counterparts in German dictionary entries may lead to the improvement in the usage of correct forms. The German user needs information both on relevant aspectual forms (perfective and imperfective) and on semantic differences between them.

The main aim of this work is to identify, analyse and describe the individual phases - mechanisms - of filling the office of the region supervisor in Bohemia before the Bíla Hora era. The secondary aim is to show the objective and subjective factors playing an important role in filling that office. An appendix includes a chronological list of regional supervisors sorted by regions, based on the extant lists from the years 1563/1564 - 1616/1617, and also includes a name index to this list. The main source of information is the set of documents of Bohemian royal office and Bohemian consulate from 1550 until the second half of the 18th century. These documents are currently stored in the National Archive in Prague, the Old Manipulation fund, inventory number 1605, sign. Euphemisms in contemporary journalism
Švíbková, Zuzana ; Nebeská, Iva (advisor) ; Mareš, Petr (referee)
Tbe use of euphemisms is motivated by lhe speaker's intention to avoid expressions that would be considered inappropriate by the recipient. Ruphemisms are primarily understood as means of politeness; the speaker tries to avoid threatening the face of their communieation partner, or their own. ln joumalism, euphemisms appear also in other funetions, such as means of persuasion and manipulation. Based on material cxeerpled from cultural critiques and reviews we are trying to demonstrale that the traditional understanding 01' euphemisms as grammatieal and lcxical deviees is too narrow. lt is devices rrom a11 levels of language, often eombined, that participate on forming euphcmisms. ln this respect we see the use of euphemisms as a means that has impaet on the eonstruction of the whole text, and consequently consider them a stylistic device.

The language of SPARK magazine
Bodlák, Ondřej ; Šebesta, Karel (advisor) ; Mareš, Petr (referee)
This thesis is concerned with Discourse analysis of music magazine Spark, which refers to metal music. The main standpoint is the phraseology and the choice of metaphorical expression which are used in the magazíne. They are determined by aesthetic and cultural context, to which the magazíne relates. Specific indexicality at the linguistic level refers, in a specific way, to musical context. The theoretical basis is stylistic analysis of specifically modified publicistic operational style, of its lexical items, phraseology and imaginativeness. Emphasis is layed on tenseness between the automatization in the use of means of expression and some author's style actualization. Both tendencies are relevant to the text contextualization. The first part of the thesis, named Introduction, presents the thematic structure of the magazíne and its specific form of advertising, the second part, named Texts, is focused on stylistic analysis of texts and their interpretation in the light of cultural context. In this second part are presented the persvazive aspects of the magazíne, in consideration of Christian values. The aim of this thesis is to describe one of the contemporary Czech media, in connection with linguistics and ideology. Key words: Discourse analysis Contextualization Order of indexicality Slang...
