Local people and national parks: Šumava and Pelister in comparative perspective
Petrova, Saška ; Čihař, Martin (advisor) ; Těšitel, Jan (referee) ; Cudlínová, Eva (referee)
People's views towards national parks have been reshaped since the designation of Yellowstone, the first national park in the world. Faced with the necessity to protect nature, on the one hand, and the lack of financial and human resources, on the other, national park administrations are forced to find creative ways to improve local resident participation in park management. Thus, determining the factors responsible for the changes in people's perceptions and attitudes has become one of the priority activities in the creation and implementation of the management strategies in national parks. This research investigates the local residents' perception of, and attitudes towards, nature protection and local development in two national parks: Pelister National Park in Macedonia and Šumava National Park in the Czech Republic. It analyses the significance of the residents' place attachment as a factor in creation of their attitudes and perceptions. The study supplements previous similar research carried on in these two parks and as such explores potential trends and changes in their management practices, especially the issues related to residents' involvement. Data are collected with the aid of a standardised questionnaire undertaken in two years in each park. The strength of people's connections to, or...
Development of Smart Cities in the region of Latin America
Valová, Alena ; Macháček, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Těšitel, Jan (referee)
The aim of the thesis Development of Smart Cities in the region of Latin America applied on the case of Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro stands on their comparison provided according to application of six axes smart city concept. Both cities provide their individual approach in their formulation and implementation of smart city initiative. According to this comparison this paper will prove that even though that there is not yet a uniform smart city definition there are indicators according to which it is possible to form a general a framework to identify smart cities. This framework will be important to prove several things about smart cities. They will be necessary for the future growth of humanity as cities become more and more important. This will happen by allowing for better functioning of cities and better use of existing resources. These cities will start to operate for their citizens in ways that lessen the impact of the environment while allowing cities to grow across multiple sectors while improving quality of life among a city s residents. This implementation of ITC technologies will prove a rising tide that will lift the city s poor by empowering their economic lives by improving quality of life and giving better access to resources. The comparison of the two cities will also prove that Rio de Janeiro through its many smart initiatives is further along in its path to becoming a smart city than Mexico City. The difference between the two will also prove just how important smart cities are to the region s future. Mexico City s projects have not been as holistic as those taken in Brazil s largest city. Rio de Janeiro s implementation of projects like COR have transformed the city allowing it to become one of the smartest cities in the region and the world. The COR has implemented ITC technologies and initiatives that have transformed every sector of the six-axes approach model.
The Style of films by David Fincher or From Propaganda Films to digital era
Těšitel, Jan ; VALAK, Radim (advisor) ; BLAŽEVIČ, Jasmina (referee)
This diploma thesis is a follow-up to my bachelor thesis, which studied the works of director David Fincher in the period framed by the existence of a production company Propaganda Films, and also by a common standard of shooting feature films on film stock. The new millennium then brought an end to the production company and also, at least for Fincher, the end of working with film material. Based on the analysis of one significant scene of each film that Fincher made in the "digital era", I will try to describe what film language is used when the scene is narrated, what precedes and what follows, the role of the actors and script, what style brings camera work and editing. And finally what constitutes a stylistic specificity of David Fincher's narrative.

Implementation possibilities of the Biosphere Reserve concept in the Bohemian Forest
Kušová, Drahomíra ; Těšitel, Jan ; Bartoš, Michael
Large scale protected areas have been considered as a promising way of nature protection. Its management, however, depends to a great extent on the way in which potential coflicts between nature protection measures and socio-economic aspirations of local population is treated. In this context the concept of biosphere reserve, as it was articulated in Sevilla in 1995, is suggested as an effcient tool to achieve the consensus among individual stakeholders. In order to dicuss the chance this concept to be practically implemented within ten years since its inception, three Czech biosphere reserves were analysed in a view of four missiones biosphere reserves are expected to fulfill. The acomplished analysis seem to confirm the fact that the present day Czech legislation enables three of the missions to be achieved, whereas the fourth – promotion of sustainable development – is more or less hindered.
Socio-ecological and psychological impacts of the Nuclear power plant Temelín on local population
Rynda, Ivan ; Těšitel, Jan ; Kušová, Drahomíra ; Bartoš, Michael
The nuclear power plant of Temelín can be seen as an unusual landscape feature in rural landscape of South Bohemia influencing quality of life of local population. The project trees to reveal a process of adaptation of local community to the nuclear power plant. Based on data gained within sociological survey, local community seems to manifest some degree of adaptation to the given situation. In the context of landscape ecology, “visual aggressiveness” of plant’s cooling towers evokes the feeling of subconscious disquiet and is perceived as main change of south-bohemian landscape character.

Educational project „International Postgraduate Course on Environmental Management for Developing and Emerging Countries“ – twenty years of experiences and searching the proper way of development assistance
Bartoš, Michael ; Kušová, Drahomíra ; Těšitel, Jan
IPSEM courses have been held at TU Dresden since 1977, thus they are based on vast experience. During more than twenty years, the 6-month course on integrated environmental management is offered on different specific environment related subjects. The course curricula concentrate on a broad and interdisciplinary conveyance of knowledge and acquisition of skills. Since 1984 a part of the course is one week lasting Practical studies in ecological planning organizing by Institute of Landscape Ecology (today Institute of Systems Biology and Ecology) the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. After twenty years of experiences with organizing the Practical studies the authors see that most necessary by providing this course is the dialogue between experts and participants and followed feedback. Technical solution on particular environmental problems is then logical issue.

Hledání ztraceného času - zhodnocení studie z roku 1983: "Krajinně ekologické důsledky výstavby a provozu Jaderné elektrárny Temelín".
Bartoš, Michael ; Kušová, Drahomíra ; Těšitel, Jan
A part of the study from the year 1983 “Landscape-ecological consequences of the construction and running the Nuclear power plant Temelín“ was used as one of the information bases for the research project “Social-ecological and psychological impacts of the nuclear power plant of Temelín”. The main hypothesis of the study was that nuclear power plant Temelín would be the main driving force of the region’s development. From nowadays point of view this hypothesis is actual (was accomplished). On the other hand the study didn’t take into account the possibilities of political and economic changes in the Czech Republic. As a result, many of socio economic phenomena forecasted by the study have not become reality.
