Anti-System Activism in the Czech Republic: Radicalization Pathways and the Quest for Significance
Mališ, Josef ; Kocmanová, Markéta (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
The Czech Republic has seen a multitude of anti-system protests in recent years, as well as a surge of online dissemination of disinformation, misinformation and conspiracy theories. The Covid-19 pandemic and Russia's military invasion in Ukraine, as well as the consequences of these events, have generated deep dissatisfaction among thousands of people across the country. At the same time, activities directed primarily against the current Czech government in light of these events have attracted considerable attention from local and international media. However, the motivations of individuals who have been involved in such activities have not been explored in-depth in an academic environment in order to understand what exactly drives people to anti- system activism in the Czech Republic. The present study seeks to fill this research gap and reveals the motivations and the underlying psychological factors that generate this type of behavior. In order to do so, the Significance Quest Theory proposed by Kruglanski and colleagues is applied to primary qualitative data collected between the years 2022 and 2023 from sample population consisting of protest organizers and participants, while a thematic analysis of the data is conducted to generate conclusions pertaining to the phenomenon of radicalization...
Analysis of the impact of Russia's armed actions on Finland's security: towards NATO membership
Křížová, Eliška ; Kazharski, Aliaksei (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on Finland's assessment of the Russian Federation as a possible threat to its security in the context of Russian armed actions - war in Georgia, annexation of Crimea and a conflict in eastern Ukraine, and the full-scale invasion of Ukraine from 2022. The aim of this thesis is to investigate Finland's shift from military non- alignment to balancing behaviour in the form of application for NATO membership after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. In addition to rigorous overview of the balance of threat theory, its critiques and refinements including operationalisation of threat dimensions, the thesis includes a section devoted to the evolution of Finnish security. Special attention is paid to the history of Finno-Soviet relations during the Second World War and the Cold War, which influenced Finland's security and defence policy for decades to come, especially in regard to NATO membership, which was for a long time seen as unlikely. The analysis of Finland's security is written with an emphasis on variables of balance of threat theory and their role in Finnish security assessment of the potential threat from the Russian Federation throughout the years after war in Georgia to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Given Finland's recent accession to...
Russo-Ukrainian war through the lens of Sun Tzu
Hlosek, Alexander George ; Hays II, George (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
A zodpovězením dvou podotázek: 1. Byly případy přizpůsobení se ruské strategie z počátečních neúspěchů? 2.
The Development of Structure and Capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Baltic Republics
Modrý, Matěj ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
Currently, due to the deteriorated security situation in Europe, significantly more states are emphasizing the development of capabilities and the transformation of the structures of the armed forces. The purpose of this work is to examine the development of structures and capabilities of the armed forces of Latvia and Estonia over the past decades. The main input factors are the theoretical assumptions of the behavior of small states and the concept of external strategic shocks influencing the development of the capabilities of the armed forces. As part of the research, the work will demonstrate the importance of some of the factors mentioned in the theories in the form of the armed forces, and at the same time it will present evidence that the second and third strategic shocks in particular greatly influenced the approach to the development of structures and capabilities in both Baltic republics. Keywords Armed forces, Military capabilities, Estonia, Latvia, Military structure, Strategic shocks Title The Development of Structure and Capabilities of the Armed Forces of Baltic republics

Russia and frozen conflicts - The geoeconomic analysis: Case study of Transnistria and Abkhazia
Rauvolf, Josef ; Svoboda, Karel (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
This thesis examines the use of geo-economic strategies as employed by Russia in its attempt to dominate the surrounding states, formerly the union republics of the USSR. It delineates the differences between geopolitics and geoeconomics, naming their pros and cons. Subsequently, the thesis discusses geoeconomics itself, its components, its development, and the changing understanding of these strategies and how they are used in specific cases. For this purpose, a pair of states, more precisely, mother and separatist states, have been chosen: Moldova/Sub- Saharan Africa, and Georgia/Abkhazia. It names the distinctive features of Russian strategies in trying to control or influence the politics of formerly subordinate states and their efforts to break free from this influence, highlights the role of corruption in Moscow's efforts, and describes the subtle blackmail to which the governments of neighbouring states are subjected. He documents all this with charts and tables, all sorts of data and figures, quotes from politicians and theorists
Non-security of the Czech Army's soldiers on social networks
Kulhánek, Jan ; Ludvík, Jan (advisor) ; Kučera, Tomáš (referee)
The aim of this thesis is to examine the risk of the Czech Army not being properly secure on social networks, the behaviour of its uniformed members and their positive identification of social networking sites. The Russian aggression in the Ukraine and the hacking of Czech medical facilities have once again brought up the importance of cybersecurity and the role that it plays in the modern world, with the human factor being positively identified as the weakest link in security. This case study seeks to define the ideal types of soldier behaviour on social media and to analyse the potential risks that each type poses. To this end, this thesis first presents information necessary to fully understand the vast topic of cybersecurity on social media. Next, it defines several ideal types and their building blocks, in order to categorize the social media accounts of soldiers it later analyses. The author concludes that each defined ideal type has inherently problematic behaviours associated with it and carries with it a level of risk for the Army of the Czech Republic. However, the present user and family member ideal types were found to be the riskiest. Key words OSINT, SOCMINT, NATO, Czech Armed Forces, Cybersecurity, Security, Social media, Ideal type analysis, Social engineering Title The insecurity...
