Media Education at secondary technical schools in Liberec region
Poláková, Kristýna ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Wolák, Radim (referee)
I Abstract This thesis' main theme is media education at secondary technical schools in Liberec region - SPŠ a VOŠ Liberec, SPŠ stavební Liberec a VOŠMOA Jablonec nad Nisou. The theoretical part defines media education, media literacy and digital literacy. The thesis presents materials which serve as the main source for creating the school education programme (ŠVP) for different specializations. Three methods which can be used while teaching media education are also described - cooperative learning, discussion and inquiry-based learning. In the practical part six teachers from three different schools were interviewed. These interviews showed that no school offers media education as a separate subject in the school year of 2023/2024, even though the respondents consider it to be important. The biggest issues with creating a separate subject seem to lie in insufficient time options and insufficient teacher qualification. Each interviewed teacher focuses on media literacy differently during their lessons: some analyse texts, some oral speech, some practice using different sources and their citations.
Medial portrayal of Mikuláš Minář
Bátor, Viktorie ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
The topic of this thesis is the presentation of the media image of Mikuláš Minář in two periods. The first period is during demonstrations on Letenská plain in June and November 2019. The second period is Mikuláš Minář's beginning in politics with his new political party Lidé PRO in 2021. This work has three goals: to present the media image of Mikuláš Minář in the first and second periods and then compare how these images differ and in what ways. To answer these questions, I chose a quantitative content analysis of selected media contents. The specific form of this method and the method of sample selection is described in the "Methodology" section. At the beginning of the diploma thesis, I focused on theory. In this section, the concept of "mass media" is described. This is followed by a section that focuses on the influence of the mass media and specifically the presentation of the media image as a theoretical concept.
Social networks as an inspiration source or reason of lower self - confidence - What impact can Instagram have on body image perception
Major depressive disorder in Czech journals and its portrayal before and during the Covid-19 pandemic
Žižková, Kristýna ; Háša, Marek (advisor) ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (referee)
This bachelor's thesis examines the portrayal of depressive disorder in the three most widely read newspapers in the Czech Republic before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. Depressive disorder is one of the most prevalent mental illnesses in the general population. According to the World Health Organization, there was a 28% increase in depression during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic. Although depression is a treatable disorder, those in need often receive inadequate care. One of the reasons for this is stigma and the associated self- stigmatization, whereby a person with symptoms of mental illness does not seek professional care for fear of being judged and in self-distrust. According to some media theories, the mass media are involved in shaping a person's attitudes and can transmit stereotypes and prejudices in their content. However, at the same time, the media can serve as a quality source of information and educate society. Therefore, using quantitative content analysis, this research attempted to assess whether the coverage of depressive disorder is good-quality and non- stigmatizing. It also focused on the frequency of articles published before and during the Covid- 19 pandemic. The analysis of the journals Blesk, Aha! and Mladá fronta DNES did not show any significant changes...
Social networks as an inspiration source or reason of lower self - confidence - What impact can Instagram have on body image perception
Pařízková, Veronika ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
The issue of the ideal of beauty presented in the media has been a worldwide phenomenon for several decades. After the origin of digital media, interest in researching this issue has expanded even more, and researchers are coming to new insights and conclusions. Body perception and satisfaction are important factors in self-concept. The subject of this diploma thesis, which I dare not call pure autoetnography, but rather qualitative research using my own self-reflection, is to bring a new perspective to the question of the media's effect on the perception of own body image. Through in-depth interviews that describe in detail several experiences with various forms of eating disorders is to think about the impact of Instagram on this topic. The main conclusion of the research is that none of the respondents confirmed Instagram as a trigger of the disease. Respondents call Instagram as coercive and harmful at a time when their psyche is already broken in some way. In that moment, most respondents described this social network as toxic and dangerous. However, despite all the negative experiences that most of them describe in the research, and which I went through as the author by myself, none of the respondents came to the conclusion that she should leave this platform at all.
Self-reflection of my own media experience with a smartphone as a development of media literacy: autoetnography
Veberová, Klára ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Soukup, Martin (referee)
The subject of this autoethnography is the self-reflection of my own media experience, which I experience daily with a smartphone. The aim of the work is to discover my intimate and individual media experience with the most used technology and to see how this professional self-reflection can lead to the development of media literacy. Current times and society are changing ever more rapidly due to technological developments, which is why we need to adapt to these changes individually throughout our lives. The first part of the thesis thus describes theoretical basis concerning media literacy and self-reflection in the context of post-modern times, the current approach to media education, the concept of dynamic lifelong learning and the new, transformative competences needed for a happy life in the 21st century. The second part of the thesis explains the qualitative methodological process of autoethnography and data collection, which took place over six months through a self-reflective journal. The final part of the work uncovers thematic categories gained from the data set, in which I deconstructed that a smartphone means for me above all security, health, ambivalence, self-fulfilment, but overall the satisfaction of these needs. I noticed that I changed the way of thinking, my opinions, behaviour, emotions,...
Dissemination of so-called fake news about the key events of 2020 among YouTubers and Twich streamers
Gobyová, Kateřina ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Hodboď, Vojtěch (referee)
Object of this thesis is to compare the broadcast content of selected YouTubers and Twitch streamers related to the main events of 2020 with how traditional media organizations such as television, press or Internet news servers inform the public about the same topics. It also deals with the possible influence of opinions, especially of young viewers, who represent the target audience for most YouTubers and Twitch streamers. Based on a comparison of the coverage of selected events, the work also attempts to assess whether or not leading Czech YouTubers and Twitch streamers can be considered relevant sources of information in crisis situations.
