Our Křížová Street
Sopoušková, Petra ; Nekvindová, Terezie (referee) ; Klímová, Barbora (advisor)
The topic of my diploma thesis is connected to my previous studies at faculty of architecture. My intention is to explore very undesignable organic development of urban spaces, but for an architect it is difficult and unusual to work with because of standardized planning process of public spaces. Using art based research I am trying to find, define, and prove existence of mental space that complements material shape of urbanized areas. As a locality for experiment I chose a street I live in for five years, and simultaneously had a wretched destiny – the Křížová Street of Old Brno district. As a piece of diploma project I present a lecture and lecture noteshowing – results of abstract contemplation gained by research in the locality. The aim of lecture is to encourage audience in ability to percieve and trust in existence of mental space in a way I described it.

Hauser, Filip ; Piaček,, Martin (referee) ; Dub,, Petr (referee) ; Klímová, Barbora (advisor)
This dissertation thesis aims to reflect on the current evolvement of public spaces and increasingly common discussions of the lay and professional public about its impact and importance for a democratic society. The main topic, "Autonomy of an artwork outside of the institutions of art", focuses on searching for the autonomy of artwork in public spaces in the context of how the artwork was placed there. The thesis describes specific artworks which were placed into the public space using different methods, such as art competition, no competition, as a gift, or in a way of temporary art. These methods are examined to find the degree of autonomy. The degree of autonomy of artworks in public spaces is determined based on the applied analysis which, among other things, focuses on how efficient the result is in comparison to the method of placement. The field research resulted in complex, subjective, sculptural and artistic opinion on the current practice of placement of artworks into public spaces. Such professional and relevant opinion was then presented to the responsible authorities which have a significant impact on the creation of public spaces. The author aims to apply the acquired knowledge in practice by offering his professional opinions for the new elaboration of the government strategic document called "Politika architektury a stavební kultury České republiky" (loosely translated as "Politics of Architecture and Building Culture of the Czech Republic"), which is created by Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic. The main results of the thesis describe the efficient approaches which lead to cultivation of public spaces and the significant role of art in them. Such approaches were in the thesis demonstrated by civic influence on the government strategies or civic activism in a form of citizens' initiative called "Je to i tvoje město" (loosely translated as "The city is your too") which actively participates in the public debate in Jindřichův Hradec, town on the South of the Czech Republic.

Usage of public space in connection to visual art and education
Viková, Tereza ; Arbanová, Linda (advisor) ; Bláha, Jaroslav (referee)
VIKOVÁ, Tereza. The Uses of Public Space in Connection to Visual Art and Art Education [Dissertation]. Prague, 2019. Charles University, Faculty of Education, Art Education Department. 98 pages (Attachments on CD: 1 text, 2 image attachments) The subject matter of the master's thesis is the use of public space. Namely a way of use when the user, on the basis of self-awareness in the common space, feels and assumes responsibility for this space. The author is particularly interested in the moment of focus, which may (or may not) result in action and become a change. In this context, the so called gentle action phenomenon is being mentioned. That is, an individual's actions emanating from within the system itself, which is usually characterized by subtle action with a deeper, more far-reaching effect. The author's central ideas are applied in a thematic series consisting of a combination of a didactic and an artistic part. Together, they create a coherent whole. The author shows her own approach to the problem (in relation to fine art and art education) based on the extraction of a public space element from its everyday environment, its temporary appropriation and restitution. Particular topics reveal the aspects of private and public and outline the ways in which the user relates to his or her...
MAN, PLACE , MEMORY
Vlček, Martin ; HAVLÍČKOVÁ, Šárka (advisor) ; SCHMELZOVÁ, Radoslava (referee)
Since its origin scenography has been situated among two arts (the visual art and the performing art). Also the visual art itself has been since the 60's of the 20th century in a similar position: experiences of living through as a part of installation (environment since 50's) or focusing more on the action itself (happening, event, performance). In my thesis I mention such examples, when both of these creative worlds cross each other on borders. The themes memory and place included in their works may consist at least of one of these two main levels: 1.) art work with place and its specifics 2.) art work established on personal stories or sharing the experience The most important for me are phenomenon of authenticity and personal experience, (co)fealing and contextuality of the place. The buildings and installations become scenes and scenographies at the same time. The happenings, events, performances become the story. But these art approaches are just shortly mentioned in my thesis, working more like roots, context with the past in contemporary works. I prefer projects intensively close to life to the artificial works. Whether it is about high experience level continuing to the intimate dialogue or sharing the big stories, memory and places, it is done in the context of time-based media, mental maps, site specific, memory, space/site, path, memories and someone who reads (in) it and (re)interpretates that. In my author diploma art project I work with a phenomenon of Being on a visit. Which are the differences and when does it come to coherence among the two key moments — being (still) on a visit and to (already) feel like at home? I´m searching for way how to reflect the place/site, using memory not only of that place/site, but also of the people who knew it — and transforming their interpretations from different personal stories or deformations of the reality (propaganda, idealisation). I focus to make a new environment/landscape, transported to another context. In my art work I am trying to use almost all tools for portraiting the reality. Painting, photography, video, installation, sound, environment, drawing, projection, text, food, performance, dance, ritual and me as the main creator of the dialogue with the visitors.
FROM NON-TRADITIONAL SPACES – INSIDE AND
Huláková, Lenka ; KLÍMA, Miloslav (advisor) ; LJUBKOVÁ, Marta (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to present the Bachelor's degree program KALD DAMU Theater Creation in Non-traditional Spaces at KALD DAMU (2012–2015), especially the content of the field of performance. The historical context of the field both in the Czech Republic and in the world is described in the introductory part, following that, I continue with my own personal theater history. The specific experience of my study of Performance and focus on working with space and place are elaborated on. That is followed by descriptions of projects created in the course of my master's program in dramaturgy at KLAD DAMU that were influenced by my studies at DTNP. In the final chapter, I evaluate the significance of the now defunct study program.
Across the border
Hornáčková, Heidi ; PILÁTOVÁ, Jana (advisor) ; ŽIŽKA, Tomáš (referee)
This text deals with the beginnings of a long-term project taking place in the border area of Kladské pomezí. It tracks the development of various theatrical approaches and their influence on local culture. It is structured into four main chapters. The first one attempts to briefly describe the natural conditions inherent for the area and it explains the local conception of the term "border". Chapter two focuses on practical realization of initial artistic activities in the area. Using various projects as examples, it maps their influence, which became a part of the creative process in this project. Chapter three examines in detail an artistic residency, the methods its participants used in rehearsals and various metaphors for crossing the borders. Chapter four tries to discuss in detail the preparation phase of the Symposium as well as the event itself. The peak of the residency was a meeting on the theme of landscape and this was also the closing event of the first year of activity in Kladské pomezí. In the end of this text, the author tries to summarize her views on the completed projects, assess their significance for the planned continuation and outline the intended direction of deepening borderactivities.
