Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Environment of the Southern Moravia Region

Byla provedena studie bioakumulace POP v potravním řetězci a historických trendů hladin POP v sedimentech Brněnské přehrady. Současné úrovně kontaminantů byly stanoveny v jelci tloušti z řeky Svratky a rovněž byla posouzena hygienická kvalita ryb z rekreačního rybolovu. Současné úrovně POP v terestrickém ekosystému byly posouzeny pomocí analýz jehličí jako přirozeného indikátoru znečištění. Studium jedinců tří druhů dravých ptáků z ČR bylo zaměřeno na zhodnocení kontaminace těchto vrcholných predátorů POP. S pomocí analýz vybraných druhů ryb ze Záhlinických rybníků byl rovněž studován proces bioakumulace. Posouzení parametrů dvou moderních extrakčních technik a jejich využitelnosti pro izolaci POP z různých matric bylo námětem poslední části dizertace.
Factors threatening European raptors and actions for their conservation

Due to their visual appearance and general size, raptors are, among a general public, revered group of animals. This also, brings them more attention in sphere of animal conservation. Despite protection, which is given to them, raptors are among other birds severely endangered with their population decreasing in multiple places across Europe. The most frequent factors, which endenger raptors, are habitat loss, poaching, high-voltage powerlines, wind turbines and lead poisoning. This paper focuses on, describtion of methods of raptor protection, determination of efective protection measures, as well as determination of new useful solutions applicable for protection improvement. Studies has shown that in individual areas of Europe are endengering factors diferent than in others. Species with same ecological requirements and a way of life are endangered by same factors. The approach to these issues also changes depending on a country and some potential factors are not examined enough, yet. Falconry as a Part of Curriculum at the Czech Schools

The thesis is focused on falconry lessons in primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic. It introduces the theory of falconry: Past and Present, legislation, falconer and ethics, anatomy and physiology birds of prey, falconry equipment, protection of birds of prey and falconry contemporary significance. Suggests the possibilities that mediate falconry lessons in schools both within lessons and excursions. The thesis is the preparation and implementation of the above proposed teaching methods: Power Point presentations and worksheets aimed at training students in primary and secondary schools filled with falconry, falconer conversation and exemplary school excursion. The genus Leucocytozoon is a bird parasite. Its hosts constitute usually of representatives of the Falconiformes group and hawks (Accipitridae). The vector of this parasite are blackflies (family Simuliidae). This thesis brings an overview of species of the genus Leucocytozoon so far detected in birds of prey. The thesis focuses primarily on methods of detecting Leucocytozoon in hosts. Traditionally, this genus has been described on the basis of its morphological characters observed via microscope. With the discovery of polymerase chain reaction method (PCR), the detection possibilities expanded and allow us to study this parasite on molecular levels. The thesis contains a basic overview of detection methods, characteristics of their principles and outlines their strengths and weaknesses regarding the practical applicability as well. Based on that, the microscopic approach alongside with the detection based on molecular methods is recommended.

Mapping and analysis of illegal poisoning of wildlife in the Czech Republic

Pesticides, rat control or targeted placed, poisoning bait by carbofuran. These and many other ways can cause the poisoning of a wild animal. Whether targeted poiso-ning of a particular animal poison or unintentional poisoning of a non-target individu-al occurs, this behavior has always fatal consequences. The persecution of nuisance animals, such as Foxes, Martens or other predators, has an influence on the whole of the population. Often poisoning bird of prey is a White-tailed Eagle, in which case every poisoned individual has an impact on the whole of the population. Unfortu-nately, this made bait is poisoning far more animals, especially for scavengers and carnivores. This paper explores the available data of poisoning animals and maps their occurrence. The data was obtained from the database the Animal Rescue Centre and the Free Wings in the period 2009-2016. Among the most commonly accepted ani-mals in the stations was the Roe Deer with poisoning caused by the Rape. Water-borne birds were Often bothered by botulism, followed by individual poisoning with poison on the rodent and poison on the Slugs. Carbofuran was most poisoned by the White-tailed Eagle, the Common Buzzard, and the Common Raven. Among the poi-sonous species are also the endangered the Red Kite, the Black Kite, and the Golden Eagle. Furthermore, it has been found that individual years have no effect on poison-ing. The difference in the number of birds and mammals poisoning was not detected. The influence of the month on the data obtained from stations was not found, the number of carbofuran poisoning is higher in March, and especially in April. In the analysis of spatial differences, there is also a balance between most regions. The Cen-tral Bohemian and the South Bohemian regions are markedly different. Above-average numbers of carbofuran poisoning originate in the regions of the South Bohe-mia, the Vysočina, the South Moravian and the Ústecký region.
The examples of introduction of birds of family Falconidae in the urban environment

The present thesis focuses on the issue of reintroduction of the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) to different locations and types of habitat. Four methods of reintroduction of birds of prey to their natural habitats are being used: they might be released from a release cage; they might be included in a falconry training programme; or they might be adopted, either within their own species, or cross-species. Of the methods mentioned, releasing from the release cage is the most frequent in the Czech Republic. The young birds of prey to be released should grow in an environment similar to the one they are about to be released. Each of them has to pass a veterinary examination and should be properly labelled and registered with the Regional Authority. It is crucial for the birds to minimise their attachment to and dependence on man. Many of the reintroduced birds successfully reached sexual maturity and were able to mate and breed. According to the research, the survival rate of 1-year-old falcons is 65 per cent in urban and 28 per cent in rural areas. In the present thesis, I have included 11 Peregrine Falcons and 7 Saker Falcons (Falco cherrug) that have been reintroduced on the territory of the Czech Republic. The findings of this thesis may contribute to further research.
