Influence of body composition on metabolic profile in people with spinal cord injury
Křelinová, Iveta ; Vařeková, Jitka (advisor) ; Pavlová, Ilona (referee)
Title: Influence of body composition on metabolic profile in people with spinal cord injury The aim: The aim of this study was to validate the positive relationship between the amount of free fat mass (FFM) and resting metabolic rate (RMR) in subjects with spinal cord lesions. Furthermore, RMR values measured by indirect calorimetry were compared with those predicted by the Harris-Benedict (H-B) equation. Methods: This quantitative research is based on the collaboration between the 3rd Internal Clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine, the VFN, the Paraple Centre, o.p.s. and the Faculty of Physical Therapy, Charles University in Prague. The research population consisted of 25 people with spinal cord lesions, clients of the Paraple Centre, 14 men and 11 women. The respondents underwent body composition measurements using the InBody S10 tetrapolar bioimpedance device and resting energy expenditure measurements determined by indirect calorimetry using the Cortex MetaLyzer 3B. The measured RMR values were further compared with the corresponding values calculated using the H-B equation. Data were presented using descriptive statistics methods. Microsoft Excel 2010 and Statistica 12 were used to record and analyze the data and graphs and summary tables were also created. Results: Compared with women, men...
Nutritional interventions for patients with brain injuries and movement limitations
Kadečková, Klára ; Sládková, Petra (advisor) ; Svěcená, Kateřina (referee)
Patients with acquired brain damage, who are attending rehabilitation day-care center on the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine of the General Hospital and the First Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague, are often limited by fatigue and lack of energy. Patients are attending day hospital mainly with brain damage acquired after stroke and less often also after brain trauma. Secondary prevention of atherosclerosis development or progression and prevention of stroke relapse is very important with these patients. Nutritional intervention plays significant role in prevention and treatment of many risk factors of an atherosclerotic artery damage. Common consequence of brain damage is development of secondary sarcopenia. Patient in day hospital must bring their own food. Individualized program as a result from examination by the multidisciplinary team doesn't include nutritional assessment. Study with patients with acquired brain damage was carried out on Department of Rehabilitation. Study used bioelectrical impedance analysis provided by InBody 370 S. Body composition of patients was measured. This data and anthropometric measurements were evaluated for presence of metabolic and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Muscle mass percentage was evaluated as well. Study found out that most...
Význam měření klidového energetického výdeje a složení těla u osob s obezitou
KOZOVÁ, Kristýna
The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the data of resting energy expenditure measurement along with the data of body composition assessment and to evaluate the selected potential factors affecting the results of indirect calorimetry, mainly the resting energy expenditure in obese individuals.
Changes in nutritional status during high-dose chemotherapy in selected hematooncological diseases
Křivánková, Jana ; Szotkowski, Tomáš (advisor) ; Káňová, Marcela (referee)
Hematooncological diseases are often accompanied by dietary restriction, especially in cytotoxic therapy. The main purpose of the work was to assess the effect of high-dose chemotherapy on the change of nutritional status in two groups of hematooncological patients. A total of 16 patients were enrolled. Changes of the body composition were evaluated using bioelectrical impedance analysis supplemented by monitoring of biochemical nutritional indicators. Observations showed that in both groups the majority lost weight. In the first group of eight patients with acute myeloid leukemia observed during three consecutive hospitalizations, the median of change of body weight was -3.7 kg (-4.3%). Loss of lean body mass with a median value of -4.8 kg (-7.2%) was detected at all patients. Body fat was reduced at half of the patients. In some cases, with length of observation, there was an increase in fat mass along with visceral fat. In the second group, which included eight patients (after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation) at whom one hospitalization was evaluated, body weight was reduced at six patients. The medianof change of body weight was -2.1 kg (-2.3%). At five patients, the treatment representeda loss of active metabolic mass. The change of the weight of the lean body mass was shown...

CHARLES UNIVERSITY IN PRAGUE FACULTY OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT ADIPOSE TISSUE DISTRIBUTION BY PRESCHOOL CHILDREN- COMAPARATIVE STUDY ABSTRACT Head of the dissertation: Author: Prof. MUDr. Ivan Dylevský, DrSc. Mgr. Dominika Petrů Prague, 2014 Abstract The dissertation provides information about the distribution of subcutaneous adipose tissue in preschool-aged /5-6 years, n=141/ and younger school-aged children /8- 9 years, n=137/ in the Ústí region. In this review, we describe and evaluate the child's body with anthropometric parameters, skinfold, bioelectrical impedance analysis and selected sample /n=31/ with ultrasonography. We found an increased distribution of adipose tissue in older file with a concentration in the abdominal area and a higher reliability of skinfold than the BIA, considering the ultrasound examination. Key words: subcutaneous fat, skinfold, bioelectrical impedance analysis, ultrasonography
Influence of physical activity on changes in skeletal muscle mass after brain injury
Prunerová, Anna ; Táborská, Silvie (advisor) ; Pochylová, Barbora (referee)
of bachelor thesis Title of bachelors thesis: Influence of physical activity on changes in skeletal muscle mass after brain injury Abstract: Bachelor thesis concerns with resulting of muscle mass after four weeks of physical acitivity doing. There were chosen patients with traumatic brain lesion and with hemiparetic stroke. The thesis is divided in two parts, theoretical and practical. Theoretical part is belonged to brain injury etiology. The attention is on hemiparetic stroke and traumatic brain lesion. Then there is described the architecture of skeletal muscle and there are included changes, which can be established on it. A part of it there is correct physical activity, which is indicated to these patients. In this thesis there is also explaining of biological impedance analysis and instruments, which were used during detection of results. In practical part there is concerned a metodology of thesis. Criteria of selection of patients, analysis and data processing are included. There are casuistries of three patients, one woman and two men after brain injury. Casuistries concern apart of anamnesis, entrance and output kinesiology examination also a measure of bioimpedance, which is important in this thesis for finding of influence of physical activity on muscle mass. Key words: Brain injury,...

Vacuum training and its influence on chosen anthropometric parameters and fit parameters with women over 40 years
CAKLOVÁ, Dagmar
The topic of the bachelor thesis is vacuum training and its influence on chosen anthropometric parameters and fit parameters with women who are over 40 years old. The main aim is to identify and describe changes to a figure and body form during a ten-week-training. The thesis is split into theoretical and research parts. The theoretical part deals with the basic concepts related to healthy lifestyle, a middle period and older adult women and a physical activity in a vacuum condition. The research part deals with characteristics of research data set, used methods for data analysis and their overall results. As the part of the attachment, there is an educational material.
Nordic Walking and its influence on chosen anthropometric parameters and fit parameters with women over 45
HEJNOVÁ, Martina
The bachelor thesis theme "Nordic Walking and its effects on selected anthropometric parameters and fitness for women from the age of 45 " is focused on fitness changes and changes in their body composition during a twelve-week-long training cycle. The work is divided into a theoretical and a research part. The definition of walking technique of Nordic walking, its benefits and its effects, is defined in the theoretical part. There are also described body structure indicators and a physical activity influence on the organism. There is a study sample characteristic, the methods which were used and the overall evaluation of results in the research part. The educational material intended for measured probands is in the appendix.
