Stříteský, Vít ; Vacek, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Mravčík, Viktor (referee)
Background: Substance use also occurs among the elderly and poses an increased risk of various health and social problems in this group. Currently, this specific group is somewhat neglected in addiction studies. In my opinion, seniors are a highly vulnerable group associated with the consumption of addictive substances, and this issue has not been extensively studied in the Czech Republic yet. Objectives: The main goal of this study is to determine which addictive substances are currently used by seniors in Prague and their prevalence. Secondary objectives include determining which sociodemographic and health characteristics affect substance use among seniors, the reasons they use these substances, and their awareness of addiction services. Methods: Given the focus of this study and its objectives, a quantitative approach was chosen for the research. Data was collected using a custom-designed electronic and printed questionnaire as the research tool. Results: The research indicates that seniors in Prague are frequent users of addictive substances. Coffee and alcohol are the most commonly used, followed by the use of medications (such as hypnotics, anxiolytics, and analgesics), cannabis products, and nicotine products. Only a small percentage of respondents reported using other addictive substances...
The drug consumption rooms as one of the possible harm reduction tools?
Rosolová, Tereza ; Novák, Petr (advisor) ; Cooke, Dana (referee)
11 Abstract This thesis delves into a highly contentious subject that demands acknowledgment. Substance abuse is intricately linked with human existence, necessitating the recognition of this reality and the subsequent addressing of its repercussions. The topic of Drug Consumption Rooms (DCRs) as a viable harm reduction measure was selected based on both professional expertise and personal insights. The vicinity of the Anděl district in Prague 5, where I am actively involved, serves as a notable hub of drug activity in Prague. This is chiefly attributed to the shifting of the drug scene amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Merely two years ago, Prague 5 hosted two contact centers for drug users, resulting in a heightened concentration of substance users in the area. This surge correlated with an uptick in criminal activity and a decline in cleanliness and hygiene standards in the district. Among the potential remedies, the establishment of DCRs stands out. Despite its contentious nature, which has garnered attention from experts and the public alike, this idea has largely remained theoretical until recently. In September 2023, a pioneering pilot project of a mobile DCR was initiated in Brno, marking a significant breakthrough. It is my hope that this thesis will foster greater awareness of this issue, potentially...

Vacková, Kateřina ; Rusek, Martin (advisor) ; Kuhnová, Marta (referee)
The bachelor thesis aims to raise awareness of interested parties about the psychoactive substance kratom and to highlight the issue of kratom in today's society. It places the substance in a historical context and describes its different varieties together with its chemical content, phytochemistry, preparation, and use. The work also aims to outline the issue of kratom in terms of its addictive potential, legislation and places the issue in a school environment. Through two case studies, using data collection methods in the form of semi-structured interview, survey, and data analysis, specific situations of kratom use by school students, the approach of teachers together with the chosen solution, and the students' and teachers' attitudes towards the issue at hand are described. The whole work then sets the basis for a possible introduction of the kratom topic into chemistry lessons, for example through chemistry textbooks. The data obtained confirmed the increasing incidence of kratom use by secondary school students and the existence of kratom as one of the current topics among the young generation. The results show a majority interest of teachers and students in further education in this area and in the possible integration of the kratom topic in the classroom. The case studies also indicated a...

NEUMANOVÁ, Hana
This bachelor's thesis explores a client's motivation to pursue substitution treatments. The objective of this bachelor's thesis is to understand the client's motive towards seeking substitution treatment from the viewpoint of a social worker. This thesis contains 2 main parts: a theoretical and practical. In the theoretical aspect, I focused on the detailed explanations of key concepts linked to the topic of my thesis. This included the definition of addictive substances, their classifications, the importance of substitution treatment, the client's motivation and the methods used to support their interest in substitution treatments. In the practical aspect, I focused on identifying the most common methods used to support a client's motivation for substitution treatments. To obtain my results, I used a qualitative research method through a semi-structured interview technique, which was conducted by social workers who work with substance abusers. The data collected was analyzed using open coding techniques and a comparison was made based on the nature of the data. Then, the data was grouped and clearly displayed into tables. The results of the data analysis, demonstrates that the role of social worker who works with victims of substance abuse, is high specific and very individualized. Social workers utilize a variety of methods to motivate their client to pursue substitutional treatment. The most common and efficacious technique is a motivational interview.
