Sedmíková, Kateřina ; Šindelář, Jan (advisor) ; Pokorný, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on Zdeněk Fierlinger and his life and is divided into two parts. The first part of the thesis focuses on his youth, work in the diplomatic services, servis to legions, fate during the Second World War and shortly after it. The first part of the thesis is about important events in the life of Zdeněk Fierlinger, due to which he was directed to the services of the communists in Czechoslovakia, enforced in February 1948. The second part of the thesis deals with the life of Zdeněk Fierlinger after 1948. This main section is focused on his overall political activity in high party positions, and above all on Zdeněk Fierlinger's contribution to building the communist regime. It is based on source research, selected professional literature and additional sources, which are mainly oral history interviews, contemporary press, university theses and internet sources. The aim of the work is therefore to comprehensively process the life of Zdeněk Fierlinger, focusing on the events that shaped his legacy today, i.e. especially on the events after 1948. The Journal Pravo lidu 1945-1948:Hopes,Aims and Tattered Ideals
Plívová, Viktorie ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
The daily Právo lidu (Peoples' Rights), a paper of the Czechoslovak Social Democratic Party (ČSSD), started to be published 12 of May 1945, immediately after a forced break during the Second World War. However, its renewed edition did not last much longer than mere three years. After the Social Democratic Party merged with the Communist Party the newspaper was closed, or more precisely "diverted" under the auspices of Rudé právo (Red right), the central organ of the Communist Party. My aim in writing this thesis is a study of this period as such, its presentation on the pages of Právo lidu, or a presentation of some major historical events on the pages of the diary and the form of the paper itself. The work is therefore divided into two main parts. The first is a theoretical introduction describing pivotal moments in the development of post-war Czechoslovakia, where I am focusing on the description of the aspects that shaped the period, formed the internal political situation and directed the former Czechoslovakia into the Soviet Union's sphere of influence. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the very analysis of the diary in the years 1945 - 1948, its form, its way of distributing the information and describing certain political moments, as well as the anchorage of the daily in party structures. 100 years since the foundation of Czechoslovakia: Anniversary year 2018 in the main evening news program of Czech Television
Rybáčková, Nikola ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Köpplová, Barbara (referee)
This master's thesis focuses on how the Czech Television covered the one hundredth anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia in its main evening news program. It was an important theme of the whole year 2018, it wasn't the only anniversary we commemorated in that year, though. In 2018, eighty years have passed since the signing of the Munich Agreement in 1938 and seventy years since the 1948 Czechoslovak coup d'état. It's also been fifty years since the Prague Spring and the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. Last but not least, we celebrated twenty-five years since the founding of the Czech Republic in 1993. All these events are significant milestones in Czech and world history of the twentieth century. Therefore, the thesis analyzes to what extent Czech Television dealt with these events. The aim of the thesis is to get an insight into the coverage of this topic throughout the year 2018 and to find out how much space was provided for each anniversary and what the nature of the posts was.

Gűttnerová, Kristýna ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Knapík, Jiří (referee)
Academic paper "An Image of the Years 1948, 1953 and 1968 on Pages of the Karlovy Vary Press" analyses specific articles from newspapers that were published in Karlovy Vary. In 1948 it was newpaper called Budovatel - List Čs. sociální demokracie and Jednota - List pracujících hraničářů. In 1953 we follow newspaper Stráž míru and Karlovarský kraj. We selected several articles which we analysed and described in detail from the perspective of content and thematic focus. We are looking for answers to the questions we have established in the theoretical part. In 1948, we look for references in the texts, for example, to the expulsion of the Germans from Czechoslovakia; new settlement within the areas Germans left, or we look for references to the communist coup in February 1948. In articles from 1953, we follow the information about the deaths of J. V. Stalin and Klement Gottwald. We also look for references about monetary reform in the texts. The work aims to approach the historical environment of the Karlovy Vary region from the perspective of the above-mentioned newspapers.
The Portrayal of the Czechoslovak coup d'état of February 1948 in Contemporary Press
Bartůňková, Eliška ; Stellner, František (advisor) ; Szobi, Pavel (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the representation of the Czechoslovak February 1948 coup in Rudé právo and Svobodné noviny. Its aim is to find out the difference between the periodicals and the possible change of Svobodné noviny after the replacement of the editor-in-chief during the coup. Using Krippendorff's quantitative content analysis, I find out that before the editor- in-chief's exchange, the newspaper differed. While Svobodné noviny were objective, Rudé právo contained engaged journalism. After the exchange, the differences faded away. The plurality of opinions was no longer present in Svobodné noviny, and the opposition was displayed negatively, as was the case of Rudé právo.

Kušiaková, Kateřina ; Beneš, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Doležalová, Eva (referee)
This thesis describes a history of Bedřich Reich's mechanical weaving - which was established on the turn of 19th and 20th century in Česká Skalice, a textile region in East Bohemia, by his father Karel Reich. From the historical sources of East Bohemia's archive are in the work mentioned technical proposals related to the factory construction, financial statistics and documents relating to the production of textile. In a separate section is presented the story of a Jewish family of Bedřich Reich, describing an idyllic life between two wars, however, at the time of the protectorate tragically touched by factory aryanization and transport to Terezín and Auschwitz. The main period occurs after the war, when the daughter of Bedřich Reich, Eva, returned as the only one home to Česká Skalice. In years 1945-1989, the factory became part of the national corporation Lina Jaroměř and later Mileta Hořice. The final part covers the beginning of the 90s, when the factory was returned in restitution to the descendants of Mrs. Reichová - Zelená.
Housing Policy in the Federal Republic of Germany and Czechoslovakia in 1948/9-1960
Rambousek, Filip ; Kunštát, Miroslav (advisor) ; Konrád, Ota (referee)
The thesis analyses housing policy in the Federal Republic of Germany and Czechoslovakia in 1948/9-1960. The aim of the thesis is to verify the assumption, that whereas housing policy of the FRG can be considered as rather successful, that of Czechoslovakia was rather unsuccessful. In addition to that, the thesis aims at interpreting the success/failure with respect to 1) the factual political steps of the two regimes, 2) the level of economic development and demographic trends, 3) the traditions of housing policies before 1948/9 and 4) the situation in housing sector immediately after WWII. The successfulness of housing policy is derived from its results in realm of dwelling construction, financial affordability and quality of housing. The methodological section contains a theoretical classification of the two political and social systems and a definition of housing policy and criteria of the comparison. Following two chapters analyse housing policy traditions before 1948/9 and housing policy of the two states in 1948/9-1960. In the latter case, before anything else, the chapter introduces the institutional framework, main actors and the most important legislation. However, the comparison as such is rather based on results of the respective housing policies. These are - in the last section -...
The reflection of Edvard Beneš in the Czechoslovakian Press in Selected Periods of 1948
Svatoš, Jiří ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The main objective of this thesis is to describe in which way the four selected press media (Rudé právo, Práce, Lidová demokracie and Svobodné slovo) reported on Edvard Beneš in the four periods of 1948 (the February Coup d'Etat, the approving of the Ninth-of-May Constitution, Beneš' abdication and seclusion, Beneš' death and funeral). There is the quantitative and qualitative analysis included in this thesis. The quantitative part focuses on the total number of articles on Edvard Beneš while the qualitative part refers to the way how the selected press media informed about the second Czechoslovak president. There shall be confirmed or disproved a theory whether the total number of articles on Edvard Beneš does not differ considerably in the selected media. Furthermore, it is researched whether the media of the democratic political parties (Lidová demokracie and Svobodné slovo) creates a different media image of Edvard Beneš in comparison to the media more closely linked to the Communist Party (Práce and Rudé právo). Last but not least, the focus is also on whether (and if so, how) the reporting on the second Czechoslovak president changed in the particular newspapers throughout the periods.
