Highly gifted and talented pupils in scientific educational fi.ld and reality of school experience
Pánek, Lukáš ; Švecová, Milada (advisor) ; Sásiková, Kamila (referee)
This thesis deals with the occurrence of scientifically gifted students at Czech schools. The talent affects a person's life fundamentally but also it influences the lives of others people. These gifted and talented people usually become leading scientists and researchers. They can affect important social events significantly during their professional careers. After the family teachers and school are the most important part in development of the child. Therefore teachers should know what specific educational requirements gifted students have. It's necessary to determine the status of teachers. In the theoretical part of the thesis the main aim of the literary review was a theoretical background of the talent, the incidence of gifted pupils at Czech and foreign schools, the work with gifted pupils at foreign schools and educational institutions and associations working with gifted children. In the practical part of the thesis a questionnaire was created and then distributed to teachers of science subjects. The questionnaire has found foreknowledge Czech teachers of the concept of genius and talent. Whether teachers are able to identify gifted pupils in the classroom what forms of work with talented students are used and the questionnaire was evaluated. Proposals and suggestions were created for working with...
Silver Amalgam Electrodes in Electroanalysis of Selected Agrochemicals
Daňhel, Aleš ; Barek, Jiří (advisor) ; Vytřas, Karel (referee) ; Ludvík, Jiří (referee)
4 ABSTRACT Development and testing of novel non-toxic electrode materials, detection arrangements and analytical methods applicable in determination of selected agrochemicals is the main aim of this Ph.D. Thesis. New working electrodes based on silver solid amalgam paste (AgSA-PE) with organic pasting liquid and other based on crystallic silver amalgam (CAgAE) were developed, their electrochemical behaviour investigated and further used in voltammetric determination of widespread and toxic environmental pollutant 4-nitrophenol (4-NP). This analyte could be determined by DPV at AgSA-PE with limit of detection (LD) 1×10í6 mol lí1 and using CAgAE with LD 4×10í7 mol lí1 , both in 0.2 mol lí1 acetate buffer pH 4.8. Attempts to decrease LDs by utilization of adsorptive stripping voltammetry were not successful in either case. Crystallic silver amalgam was also successfully used for construction of microcylindric flow-through cell and tested for amperometric determination of nitrophenol mixture in HPLC-ED system. Both novel electrodes were found to be suitable alternatives to toxic mercury electrodes and the CAgAE seems to be promising working electrode for flowing systems. Method for sample preparation and voltammetric determination of broad-spectrum herbicide Glyphosate in contaminated soil samples was also...
Teaching students with specific learning difficulties focusing on science at high schools
Lidová, Lenka ; Rajsiglová, Jiřina (advisor) ; Kortová, Veronika (referee)
The specific learning difficulties (LD) are nowadays frequently discussed topic, which is still more current even at high schools. Teachers should help these students because of their learning difficulties. LD students are not stupid, they just need a little bit different approach in the classroom than the others. This thesis mainly shows various teachers' approaches to students with LD in different schools and different countries. Because I study teaching biology and chemistry, the work is focused on science subjects and on teachers of these subjects. The aim of this paper is also to propose the basic procedures of working with the LD students for high school teachers with the real ideas of possible adaptations in the science class. In order to discuss approaches to the work with LD students it was necessary to prepare an LD overview at first. To achieve the aims of the work we used methods such as literary research, questionnaire survey and interviews with teachers and students. The theoretical part summarizes basic information about various learning difficulties, different approach to LD students in science, the teachers' and classmates' attitudes to LD in various countries and different approaches to integration of LD students in various countries. The task of the practical part was to identify...

Entrainment of the circadian clock within the rat suprachiasmatic nukleus during fetal and early postnatal development
El-Hennamy Essam, Rehab ; Sumová, Alena (advisor) ; Novotná, Růžena (referee) ; Mourek, Jindřich (referee)
All mammals exhibit daily rhythms which persist in non-periodic environment with a period close to 24h. These rhythms are entrained to the 24h day mostly by the light-dark cycle. These circadian rhythms are controlled by a clock (pacemaker) located in the suprachiasmatic nuclei (SCN) of the hypothalamus. In the rat, the circadian clock within the SCN develops gradually from prenatal to postnatal period and is supposed to be synchronized mainly by maternal signals. However, the rat SCN is sensitive to light immediately after birth. The aim of the present work was to investigate the mechanism of entrainment of the circadian clock within the rat SCN during fetal and early postnatal development. The specific questions were whether and when the immature fetal and neonatal molecular SCN clocks can be reset by maternal cues, and whether and when the external light-dark cycle (LD) can affect the developing circadian rhythms. The role of light-dark cycle in the development of the photoperiodic entrainment during early postnatal period was also examined. Experiment no. (1): Pregnant rats were maintained under a light - dark regime with 12 h of light and 12 h of darkness (LD12:12). At gestational day 20 (E20), the fetuses were sampled throughout the day under either LD12:12 or constant darkness (DD). The...
The utitilization of boron-doped diamond thin film electrode for the voltammetric and amperometric determination of amino derivatives of biphenyl
Maixnerová, Lucie ; Zima, Jiří (referee) ; Schwarzová, Karolina (advisor)
The aim to this work was to develop methods for the determination of 2 aminobiphenyl (2-AB), 3 aminobiphenyl (3-AB), and 4-aminobiphenyl (4-AB) in model mixtures. Concretely, the direct determination of the mixture of studied analytes has been tested using spectrophotometry and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Furthermore, separation and detection of 2-AB, 3-AB, and 4-AB have been performed using high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC-ED) with boron-doped diamond film thin electrode (BDDFE) in ,,wall-jet" configuration and using high performance liquid chromatography with UV detection (HPLC-UVD). It was found out that the spectrophotometric determination of 2-AB, 3-AB, and 4-AB is impossible in their mixture because of nearby values of local absorption maxima wavelengths of all three analytes studied. Upon the determination of 2-AB, 3-AB, and 4-AB in their mixture using DPV in BR buffer pH 2.0, the difference in peak potentials of 2-AB and 3-AB is too low for their determination in mixture. Upon the determination of mixture containing 2-AB and 4-AB in BR buffer pH 12.0, the limits of determination (LDs) were obtained in the concentration order of 10-6 mol.l-1 for 2-AB and 10-7 mol.l-1 for 4-AB. LDs for the mixture containing 3-AB and 4-AB were obtained in the...
