The GAP in Brno
Choutka, Jiří ; Selnarová, Elisabeth (referee) ; Palaščák, Michal (advisor)
In my work I deal with the design of an apartment building in a gap in the center of Brno at Kopečná and Husova streets. The gap is located on a relatively deep place, which is bounded on the northeast, from Husova Street, by a steep and high slope (the body of the road between the Main Railway Station and Šilingr Square). The gap is located in a busy place and is exposed to noise from Husova Street. There are important historical and architecturally valuable buildings in the area. The functional content of the building is housing. In the design, I try to respond appropriately to the surrounding situation and adapt the building functionally and operationally. The effort was to meet all the requirements of the housing operation and insert new value into the existing city structure.

The subject of my bachelor's thesis is the design of a multifunctional building in a selected gap in the center of Brno in Jezuitská Street. The main idea was to create a multifunctional house that will be suitably designed into a cramped and deep gap and will combine several functional units. It is primarily civic amenities with services, administrative functions and mostly student housing. On the ground floor there is a shop and a cafe. In my work I deal with the material connection to the surrounding buildings of the place and I respect it. In the cramped narrow gap, which has a given area, it was necessary to divide the building plot into 2 masses due to sufficient sun exposure of all spaces. The main mass, which closes the street line on Jezuitská Street and the second, which closes the gap in the park of Danuše Muzikářová. In the central part there is a smaller courtyard with vertical communication with a singlearm staircase and a barrier-free solution - an elevator. The horizontal communication consists of balconies, which connect the two materials on each floor and from them there are accesses to individual apartments and offices. In the proposed multifunctional building, there is a passage from Jezuitská Street through the courtyard with greenery to Danuše Muzikářová Park on the ground floor.

The goal of my project is urban delimitation for social and cultural life of people. The multifunctional building takes place along the Lerchova’s street and it is a closing point of the square. The other side of affore mentioned square is opened towards the park on Kravi hora. The dominant place is a st. Augustin church, that is located on the north side. The closing point on the south is a cultural center, which is connected with community garden. My main intention is to change a traffic situation, that is currently quite problematic. To accomplish this I have joined the Udolni and Brezinova streets together with a perpendicular street. The tram loop is also shifted more into the parkside. The main object is the 5 floor multifunctional building, that is in elementary concept with passage. The object determines natural communication axis from the square to school in the Lerchova’s street. This concept is also reflected on the square. First floor is realized as a parter with commercial usage, the floor above is designed for living and parking is in the underground. Area for living is divided into a part of 1 floor housing units, that are accessible from a platform and a part of housing units inside the main building. Project comprises blue-green elements of grass surface for sucking the water into soil, trees in the square and perennial bed in the middle of tram loop.

The task of the bachelor's thesis was to design a suitable structure for our chosen gap. My design deals with a gap on Sladová Street. Quite an unattractive location is hidden behind Mendel Square, but which is a great shortcut to Špilberk Castle. Nowadays, the gap is ugly, overgrown and fenced with corrugated iron, on which some "artists" decorated with their thought of art. The analyses I performed last semester showed that the plots never had a building on them. In addition, there is an exploration tunnel of the tram line. An insight into the zoning plan revealed that the tram line below Špilberk is still being considered, so I had to adapt the proposal to this fact. So, my design is a multifunctional house, which is mostly residential. I incorporated the tunnel into the house by basically making it an attraction for the public as part of a large cafe with an underground bar and club. The benefit of the design for the site should be to make the street more attractive, to fill an unsightly gap and to create new living spaces near the centre.

The theme of the thesis in design building in a locality in Brno. In this case it means locality in Husovice which is part of Brno-sever. Area, where is the building designed, is situated very next to Zábrdovice near the Svitava river. From the place we can see convent on the next side of the river and the river. Part of Tišnovka railway used to lead along Svitava. In the present people use waterfront for walks and other sports. The building profits from this frequently used way and beautiful views. Because of orientation of the place and noise from the street from the traffic, isn’t building used for flats, but as a community centre for local inhabitants. The front respect street. Also it reacts at other house in the street, for which is symmetry typical. One of the main point of the house is passageway though the house. In the present is place part of big area without option of walk though. The project work with option of build some houses with streets between street Jana Svobody (and Vranovská street) and Svitava waterfront. One of the way will go through the community centre and its garden.

In my bachelor's thesis I dealt with the design of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa, which is the capital of Ethiopia. The basic idea was to create the most compact building possible, which would take into account all specific requirements. In one building there are representative premises with facilities, consular and visa building, office building and residential building. All this is connected by a terrace, which responds to external roads. Only minimal buildings for local staff are completely separate.

Smart District Špitalka
Pelčák, Vlastimil ; Hybská, Bohumila (referee) ; Sedláček, Michal (advisor)
This thesis deals with an architectural case study of the urban block in the Svitava industrial zone bordered by the Svitava River in the east, Ring Road in the west, Milady Horákové Street in the north and Zvonařka Street in the south. Špitálka Smart City has been designed to be in this area. The thesis is modelled on the Špitálka Smart City urban study, that was the outcome of the pre-thesis seminar in the winter term 2020/21. The urban study objective was the urban renewal of the Brno teplárny (heating plant) area and its surroundings as well as a design of a new urban boulevard. The thesis focuses on a design of a selected urban block in the Smart City Špitálka. This mixed-use development provides commercial, administrative and residential functions. The block is divided into two parts; either part consists of three sections. Two underground storeys providing parking space and space for building services are intended for the whole block. The case study further develops only the section that is labeled Coworking offering six floors for coworking spaces. On the ground floor there are spaces for a café, commerce and also the main entry to the co-working offices. A sky-office and a venue for rent are located on the seventh floor. The venue can be used for a wide range of events from smaller conferences, through corporate meetings & teambuildings to private parties. Both the sky-office and the venue have access to the rooftop terrace. The design creates a modern office building concept in the former industrial zone.
