Individual speech therapy in school for children with auditory impairment
Livečková, Miluše ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
The subject of thesis was to investigate and compare the communication skills of pupils of the first class with a different type, degree of hearing loss and different living conditions. The methodology of work was based on principles of qualitative research; it is a case study of three students from the first grade class for children with hearing impairments; speech therapy of these three pupils who have different hearing loss and variable compensation of hearing loss was compared. Firstly, available materials of monitored pupils were studied, secondly the technique of "participant observation - full observer" was used to collect data. The set of thematic pictograms was used to compare comprehension and vocabulary of studied children. Significant differences between the observed students were revealed during the investigation. One boy (hard of hearing with a hearing aid) to communicates comparable to their peers without hearing impairment and had a very good vocabulary, which is probably due to regular wearing hearing aids since early childhood, early auditory and speech education and the excellent cooperation and support of the family. Another two students - a girl (residual hearing, hearing aids) and a boy (cochlear implant) - have a relatively small vocabulary, speech and communicate primarily...
Communication skills of children with cochlear implants
Humlová, Dominika ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Kotvová, Miroslava (referee)
The content of this thesis is a theoretical introduction to the topic of hearing impairment, its classification, diagnosis and compensation options. Furthermore the work deals with a cochlear implant as the compensation aid. It describes the entire process of choosing the cochlear implantation candidates, the operation itself, setting of the speech processor and subsequent rehabilitation. The thesis also deals with communication competence and speech development not only of children with hearing impairment but also without hearing disorders. After the performance of the available diagnostic tools used for vocabulary testing, the work describes a research process of identifying the vocabulary level in children with cochlear implants by the use of appropriate passive and active vocabulary test and interprets obtained results. Speech therapy for children of early school age with a cochlear implant
Lomberská, Ivana ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Komorná, Marie (referee)
This thesis deals with the issue of speech therapy for children of early school age with the cochlear implant. General knowledge about hearing impairment and the possibility of compensation, different types of cochlear implants and especially about the specifics and methodology of following speech therapy are summarized in the theoretical part of the thesis. The practical part consists of research, realized through questionnaires. The research deals with the current situation of speech therapy for children of early school age with a cochlear implant, with a special focus on post-implantation rehabilitation and its complexity. The result of the research demonstrates the complexity of speech therapy only in some speech therapy workplaces. The result of the research also demonstrates that speech therapy is highly individual and depends completely on specific situation and personality and communication skills of each child with a cochlear implant. KEYWORDS Hearing impairment, cochlear implant, cochlear implantation, child with a cochlear implant, early school age, rehabilitation, hearing and speech developement, speech therapy.
Speech therapy for children after cochlear implantation in the preschool age. Evaluation of passive vocabulary and understanding of speech by children with cochlear implants before starting school
Salačová, Martina ; Hádková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Mrkosová, Eva (referee)
Thesis deals with issues of cochlear implants. It is focused on pre-school children one year before attending basic school. Thesis discusses all requisites that precede, accompany and follow cochlear implantation. We primarily determined the possibilities of children with cochlear implants, whether they can reach approximate levels of communication as intact children of the same age specifically in development of passive vocabulary and in the ability of understanding of speech. We choose the test Diagnosis of Language Development (Diagnostika jazykového vývoje) by Gabriela Seidlová Málková and Filip Smolík. The results of tests of children with cochlear implants were compared with tests of intact children of the same age. Next we used analysis of expert literature and interviews with teachers to determine which particular factors have underlying influence in the process of therapy of children after cochlear implantation and which influence them enough so children with cochlear implants approach communication levels of intact children. These factors were tracked in case studies of two girls with cochlear implants. KEYWORDS: cochlear implants, passive vocabulary, understanding of speech, preschool age, speech therapy
