Creation of worksheets for teaching financial mathematics at lower and upper secondary levels
Dolák, Tomáš ; Novotná, Jarmila (advisor) ; Janda, David (referee)
In this thesis, I focus on the creation and application of worksheets for teaching financial mathematics in primary and secondary schools. Not only do these worksheets enhance students' knowledge of financial mathematics, but they also bolster their financial literacy. Furthermore, these tools can be employed to practice a range of skills such as programming, algorithm design, information retrieval, group discussions, and independent problem-solving. A key feature of these worksheets is their structure, which follows the Cornell Notes system. This system emphasizes formulating questions, taking notes, and creating indi- vidual summaries. Additionally, I have incorporated a student-centered self-assessment system into the worksheets, enabling students to track their achievement of the goals set by the worksheets. The main objective of this work is to create worksheets for teaching, and then test these worksheets in the classroom. Another aim is to analyze the students' solutions and propose potential approaches to individual tasks that teachers can implement in their lessons. After the students completed the worksheets, I analyzed their solutions and sub- sequently conducted a questionnaire survey among the pupils to gather further infor- mation. This survey either supported or contradicted my...

Bandura's theory of self-efficacy is the theoretical framework of academic self-efficacy, which is one of the predictors of the school achievement. Academic self-efficacy is defined as an option of self-efficacy. The focus of this work is a description of the academic self-efficacy development from the beginning of the first grade at elementary school till the end of high school with the emphasis on transition moments. Additionally, variables which can increase or decrease the academic self-efficacy are introduced. In the last part of the work a research project is suggested which explores teacher's importance for academic self-efficacy development. Role Models, High School Management and Female Engagement in STEM: Evidence from the Czech Republic
Grosman, Jiří ; Zápal, Jan (advisor) ; Jann, Ole (referee)
Title: Role Models, High School Management and Female Engagement in STEM: Evidence from the Czech Republic Author: Jiří Grosman, BSc Institute: CERGE-EI Supervisor: PhDr. Jan Zapal, Ph.D., CERGE-EI Abstract: The fact that the gender wage gap remains at least in part driven by women's self-selection out of profitable career choices has been an established fact in the labour economics literature. What has been given comparatively less attention by economists, however, are the motivating factors of such self-selection. In this thesis, I design an empirical strategy aimed to assess the strength of a particular driver of differential gendered choices: high school management, and the associated policy intervention. Specifically, I examine the STEM preferences of high school students using population data on Czech university applicants between the years of 2007-2021. By employing both matching and a difference- in-differences estimation framework to facilitate causal interpretation, I argue that school mentoring programmes, and the way the school is being run, can significantly affect the choices made by a non-negligible number of female students - an inference corroborated by the data and my subsequent analysis. Keywords: gender gap; STEM; high school; education 1
Classrooms with LGBT students: case studies
Vlková, Veronika ; Smetáčková, Irena (advisor) ; Frombergerová, Anna (referee)
AJ This diploma thesis deals with secondary school class groups, where are students with a minority sexual orientation/students from the LGBT+ community. In the class collectives, peer relationships and the functioning of this entire class collective is examined with the attitude towards the LGBT community. In this diploma thesis, the focus is on the entire class collectives, not only on students with a minority sexual orientation/from the LGBT+ community or, conversely, students with a heterosexual orientation/cisgender identity. The research was conducted in the form of 2 case studies, specifically, a questionnaire survey, semi-structured interviews with a few randomly selected students and semi-structured interviews with class teachers were used. The goal of the research was not only to describe the entire class group, but also to grasp the LGBT+ topic more comprehensively and understand the situation that is based on the presence of a student from the LGBT+ community in the class group - from the point of view of students from the LGBT+ community, as well as students with a majority sexual orientation/identity. The research shows that good or functional peer relationships do not necessarily mean a positive attitude towards the LGBT+ community and vice versa. Students in both class groups...
Botany Field Trips
Brabcová, Eliška ; Novotný, Petr (advisor) ; Kroufek, Roman (referee)
This bachelor thesis is devoted to the problem of field education in botany. Based on the available international and Czech literature, the thesis points out the current change in the attitude of the academic and lay public towards botany and the related educational implications. It also presents the dichotomy in the concept of field education - the traditional Czech approach of organizing field trips and the Scandinavian model of uteskole. Furthermore, the thesis questions the benefit of the conventional division of the field trip into stages - preparation, realisation and evaluation - in the context of striving for a more regular and conceptual field education. Within the actual implementation of field education in botany, it discusses selected aspects of nature walks, visits to botanical or school gardens. It bases the value of field-based botany education on the positive results of monitoring the achievement of cognitive and affective learning goals. It also emphasizes its importance in the relationship between the teacher and the group of students. At the same time, the thesis takes a critical look at field-based botany education through the general and individual barriers to its realization. In the context of the contemporary world, it focuses on the implementation of digital technologies in...
