Computer modeling of diffusional transport in hydrogel
Koláček, Jakub ; Sedláček, Petr (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This thesis focuses on the design of models applicable to the simulation of particle motion in a viscoelastic environment in COMSOL Multiphysics. Two approaches have been chosen for the design of these models: the first is the design of a geometry representing the porous structure of hydrogels and the second is the implementation of viscoelasticity using the mathematical concept of a continuous environment. Two elementary geometrical models are presented in this work – a three-dimensional periodic lattice and a spherical volume model. Furthermore, the possibilities of implementing the generalized Langevin equation in COMSOL Multiphysics are explored by using the interface for custom partial differential equations, by adding an auxiliary dependent variable, or by defining a custom external function written in the C language. The proposed geometric models did not prove to be suitable for the simulation of viscoelastic environment. An implementation using an external function seems to be the most promising, as it offers the most customization possibilities, and its implementation reflects the theoretical foundations. The thesis also includes a custom add-in written for COMSOL Multiphysics to facilitate the evaluation of simulation data and a modified Python script to calculate the complex shear modulus from MSD data.
Microrheology modeling with COMSOL Multiphysics package
Koláček, Jakub ; Sedláček, Petr (referee) ; Pekař, Miloslav (advisor)
This bachelor thesis focuses on modeling Brownian motion using the COMSOL Multiphysics package and its Particle Tracing module. The aim of the work is to design and create elementary models that will be able to suitably simulate the movement of microparticles in viscous and viscoelastic environments, which can later be used for modeling passive microrheology. Within this work, Matlab scripts were created for the calculation of MSD from the simulation results, validation of the viscous model was performed on experimental data and elementary models for the simulation of the viscoelastic environment were also designed. Two different approaches were chosen for the design of these models, namely the use of rigid obstacles under the assumption of a discrete environment and a mathematical model assuming continuous environment. Data from the viscous model showed good agreement with the experimental results. The results of viscoelastic simulations are presented, and further possible development of these models is discussed. The continuous mathematical model is considered closest to modeling viscoelastic behavior because of a characteristic curvature that was observed in the evaluation of MSD.
Roma In Turkey - the case of Sulukule
Gabčová, Lucie ; Kaas, Filip (advisor) ; Koláček, Jakub (referee)
The thesis focuses on the events in Istanbul's Sulukule quarter, which began in 2005, when the authorities ruling in Istanbul approved the revitalization project of Istanbul's Sulukule quarter in Fatih district. The oldest Roma quarter in Istanbul, dedicated to the local Roma according to legends already by Sultan Mehmed II. for helping in the conquest of the city, was a famous place where many went for music, dancing and entertainment. As a result of the revitalization project, several hundred families lost their homes and luxury houses were built on this place instead. The goal of the work is to map this project from its beginnings to 2010, to focus on how local residents were dealt with and what their options were to defend themselves against the project. The work places the project in Sulukul in the context of the phenomenon of kentsel dönüşüm, which is taking place throughout Turkey and which aims to revitalize residential areas, among other things, due to the impending earthquakes. However, this project mainly affects zones where investments do not flow in the long term and are inhabited by less well-off social groups that cannot effectively resist revitalization. The work will outline the history of the Roma community in Turkey and in Sulukule. The main contribution of the work will be the...
Sexuálně rizikové chování u studentů středních škol
Koláček, Jakub
This bachelor's thesis deals with risky sexual behaviours among high school students. The main purpose of the thesis is to map this kind of behaviour, to describe the phenomena that can cause it, to name the types of sexually risky behaviour and their impact on a person and overall to bring this issue closer to the reader. The second part of the thesis deals with the actual research of sexually risky behaviour in high school students, using a questionnaire survey. The aim of this research is to find out what types of sexually risky behaviours occur among pupils and what is the motivation behind each behaviour.
Syrian diaspora mobilization in the Czech Republic
Wranová, Martina ; Jermanová, Tereza (advisor) ; Koláček, Jakub (referee)
What motivates diasporas to political mobilization regarding the situation in the country of origin? Although members of the diaspora often become more active when their homeland is going through a critical development such as a war, previous research shows that not only the conflict itself, but also the mobilization capacity of the diaspora and psychological factors influence the political engagement of the diaspora. This bachelor's thesis will focus on the political mobilization of the Syrian diaspora in the Czech Republic during the Syrian anti- regime uprising in 2011 and the subsequent civil war. The aim will be to investigate how this community was politically engaged during this period, what motives led it to political mobilization, and whether and how its engagement changed over time (2011-2022). For this purpose, the author will conduct in-depth semi-structured interviews with migrants from Syria who settled in the Czech Republic and were politically involved at the beginning (and) or during the civil war. But it also relies on available research and newspaper articles about demonstrations and other types of political mobilization of the Syrian diaspora in the Czech Republic. The bachelor's thesis has the ambition to bring new knowledge about this group, which is addressed only...

Qatar and the Afghan Peace Talks
Kalina, Martin ; Koláček, Jakub (advisor) ; Ťupek, Pavel (referee)
The aim of the work is to introduce the peace negotiations between the United States of America and Taliban in the Qatari capital Doha during the second decade of the modern conflict in Afghanistan. In addition to describing the negotiations that took place, it approximates the nature of US efforts and interest in resolving the long-term war and also explains the complexity of the conflict in the context of other involved regional powers. Special attention is paid to Qatar as the host country for the peace negotiations which with the support of its own mineral resources and media power has taken via its current foreign policy important position in regional development.
Boko Haram: the emergence and evolution of a terrorist organisation
Hojdar, Matěj ; Ťupek, Pavel (advisor) ; Koláček, Jakub (referee)
The goal of this bachelor's thesis is to introduce Boko Haram through its genesis and evolution and to identify formative moments in its history. Corruption, bad economic planning and a colonial legacy are often presented as the main reasons for the creation and popularity of Boko Haram. This bachelor's thesis provides a summary of the relevant literature that deals with these factors and with Boko Haram more broadly. It also focuses on the leaders of Boko Haram and their influence on the evolution of the organization, something that is rarely emphasized. The bachelor's thesis comes to the conclusion that although all of the above mentioned factors played a role in the evolution of Boko Haram, it was precisely the leaders of the group, who, during important moments, steered their the group in a certain direction and thus had a significant influence on its further evolution. Keywords: Boko Haram, terrorism, salafism, jihadism
The Shiraz Art Festival (1967-1977) through the lens of historical memory
Macková, Veronika ; Koláček, Jakub (advisor) ; Kříhová, Zuzana (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the topic of the Festival of Arts in Shiraz, which took place in 1967-1977. The question asked by author asks is whether the festival could function as an autonomous art zone or whether the art scene was intertwined with the socio-political climate of Iran at that time. Using theories of collective and historical memory, significant festival events are analyzed and placed in a broader historical context. Both positive and critical reactions to the festival are examined. As the Festival also enters into contemporary cultural debates, this bachelor thesis focuses on the controversy between two curators who take opposing positions on the festival. The author concludes the thesis by noting that the festival did not take place in isolation from political events; rather, it was a symptom and later a catalyst of the complicated social tensions in Iran in the second half of the 1970s.
Relations between the Taliban and al-Qaeda between 1996 and 2001
Kovařík, Tomáš ; Koláček, Jakub (advisor) ; Kříhová, Zuzana (referee)
The Taliban and al-Qaeda are groups that profess radical forms of Islam and are often mentioned in connection with terrorism (the latter is one of the most well-known terrorist organizations). In the period 1996-2001, both groups were deployed to Afghanistan. The Taliban ruled Afghanistan during those years, and al Qaeda had the status of a kind of "guest". As a result of the 9/11 attacks of al- Qaeda, the United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom. As part of this operation, the Taliban movement was removed from the government and al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was forced to flee Afghanistan and hide until his death in 2011. The aim of my work will be to describe the development and functioning of relations between the two organizations in the period preceding these events. Why did Osama bin Laden move to Afghanistan? Why did the Taliban allow it? What were the relations between the two organizations? How was the cooperation between them? In addition to sharing a common territory, did this cooperation have other, ie economic, military and political aspects? Was the relationship between them a perfect harmony of political and religious views, or was it rather a pragmatic relationship that was not ideal but benefited both actors? The analysis of these relationships will be based on available...
