Influence of external conditions on egg incubation in lapwings (genus Vanellus) in temperate and subtropical climate
Pešková, Lucie ; Šálek, Miroslav (advisor) ; Hořák, David (referee)
During incubation, most birds require the presence of at least one parent to ensure suitable incubation conditions for embryo development. The main factors that affect the development of the embryo are temperature, humidity and egg turning. In this work, incubation conditions were investigated in two biparental Lapwing species (genus Vanellus), the Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus), which faces the risk of egg cooling in temperate areas, and the Red-wattled Lapwing (Vanellus indicus), which faces the risk of egg overheating in the subtropics. A laboratory experiment testing the thermal properties of the Red-wattled Lapwing nest lining showed that it selects lining material that slows down temperature growth during egg heating, thus ensuring suitable thermal conditions during parental absence at high ambient temperatures. Temperature and egg turning during incubation were recorded by an artificial egg with a built-in sensors placed in the nests of both target species; data collected by the sensors were stored by a base-station located nearby. The average egg temperature was 32.5 řC for the Northern Lapwing, and 35.0 řC for the Red-wattled Lapwing. Egg temperature in both species fluctuated significantly, affected by many factors. Egg temperature increased with increasing ambient temperature, it...
Breeding of invertebrates and their use in school teaching
Farionová, Jana ; Hanel, Lubomír (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
The submitted Bachelor thesis has a retrieval character. It focuses on general characteristic of the selected groups of the Invertebrates and also on its breeding, which is suitable for home and school environment. The handled topic relates to my subject of study, it includes the guide, the possibilities of breeding of the Invertebrates and the selected species. It can be used by the teachers, but also pupils and students of Biology. Some parts are also dedicated to the basic elements to which is important to pay attention during the lessons and which can be well observed on the organism. The introduction concentrates the brief characteristic of the Invertebrates, it includes the list of used terms and it generally informs about the principles of breeding. The following chapters consist of the characteristic and breeding of the selected species, examples of the suitable variets and also the problem issues, which can appear during the breeding. With the described species we can also find the options how to use them during the education at school. Picture are attached in the thesis. KEYWORDS Invertebrates, charakteristic, breeding, species
Breeding of a leopard gecko in a kindergarden and it's utilization for awakening and intensifying children's interest in nature
Kovalová, Marie ; Jančaříková, Kateřina (advisor) ; Říhová, Dagmar (referee)
This thesis is focused on the theme of the reciprocal action of animals and pre-school children. It introduces us to the breeding of leopard geckos in kindergartens (with its benefits and disadvantages). Based on case studies, it describes a leopard gecko's influence on preschool children's personalities in kindergarten. The main method of research involves observing individual children as well as a group of children in a one- room kindergarten, Lísteček. Kindergarten Lísteček enrolls children from 3 to 7 years of age, so the composition of children is heterogenic. The maximum capacity of the kindergarten is 28 children and it is part of a primary school. Individual situations and interactions between the children and the geckos wer recorded by videorecording, photogallery and questionare examinations between parents and children conducted by the kindergarten. The children exhibted a natural interest in the exotic animals and the school breeding was evaluated positively. The children's interest in new information was not limited to the school breeding program, they showed interest in the natural world as well. The contact with the geckos brought the children joy, positive emotions, and were a calming influence. Other benefits were the developement of the five senses, learning to cooperate while...
Population dynamics of Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina)
Poláková, Klára ; Musil, Petr (advisor) ; Storch, David (referee)
This study is aimed at analysis of long-term and short-term changes in numbers of Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina) in Třeboň region. This species is increasing in long-term period and it is also spreading into new localities in the Czech Republic. There were recorded two waves of arrival of Red-crested Pochard arrive, i.e. in April and in May. The total numbers were decreasing at the end of breeding season (from the beginning of July) in study area. The water surface area and area of littoral vegetation were found to be the most important factors affecting preference of individual ponds in pre-breeding season. Furthermore, water transparency seems to be important factor affecting numbers of broods, ducklings and adults in post-breeding season. Low numbers of broods per 1 female were recorded in years with high numbers of Red- crested Pochard at the start of breeding season. However, the frequency of brood parasitism was higher in these years. Key words: Netta rufina, Red-crested Pochard, population dynamics, ducks, breeding, numbers, brood parasitism, south Bohemia
Study of Animal Breeding at Primary Schools in the Czech Republic
Boučková, Veronika ; Řezníček, Jan (advisor) ; Jančaříková, Kateřina (referee)
The theoretical part of my thesis is based on a study of specialized literature and interview. It contains two parts focused on a history of breeding and the importance of breeding today with an interest on importance of school breeding. The present state of hobby breeding at Primary Schools in the Czech Republic was surveyed in frame of two questionnaires. Teachers and directors of Primary School were respondents of the first investigation, students of the Breeding School of the second one. In both surveys, the respondents were asked about actual existence of breeding at their school, farmed species, housing conditions and their attitudes and motives regarding this issue. Opinions of psychologists regarding this issue are a part of interviews presented in the first part of the work. There is a possibility to compare three insights on the same subject - by teachers, students and psychologists. Part of my thesis contains also a comparison of outcomes with similar research. Regrettably, there is a lack of literature data regarding the issue of school breeding.

JUHASOVÁ, P., Invertebrate Lectures And Their Use In Leisure Lessons. Master thesis. Praha: Charles univerzsity in Prague, Faculty of Education, 2016. 94 s. In this diploma thesis, practical tasks focused on invertebrate biology are presented. They are targeted for science hobby groups. Detailed instructions for experiments and observations as well as for capturing invertebrates can be found in this diploma thesis. There are described also long-term projects in the form of inquiry-based teaching tasks, construction of man-made outdoor insect nests (so-called "insect hostels") and also the indoor invertebrate keepings. The vast majority of tasks were tested in practice in two science hobby groups, attended by a total of 30 participants. The aim of these tasks is to increase the attractiveness and accessibility of natural science to a wider audience and improving its presentation, but also to arouse positive attitude to nature and all living creatures. Inspiration will be found there not only by leaders of natural science clubs, but also by teachers, who want to incorporate practical work with animals into teaching. Key words: invertebrates, experiment, observation, breeding, inquiry-based edusdion, IBE
