Hrdličková, Alena ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
Bachelor thesis "Magazine Prague in Week in 1940 - 1944"presents a detailed characteristic of a regional weekly Praha v týdnu (Prague in Week), which was published in Prague in 1940 - 1944. Initially a programme review, the magazine informed its readers about what's on in Prague theatres and cinemas, about held exhibitions as well as different social events. It also gave information on new films and brought their reviews as well as interviews with artists; at first bringing light topic articles but later on focusing more on specialised essays from the field of culture. Changing interpretation of the role of the communist resistence at the Prague uprising
Zelinka, Martin ; Koura, Petr (advisor) ; Parkan, František (referee)
The Prague uprising signified the end of the Second World War in Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. As the Soviet and American armies progressed through the country towards Prague and the war was apparently soon to come to an end, Czechoslovaks themselves wanted to take part in the resistance against the Nazi oppression. The uprising was also a turning point for the succesful liberation of Prague. After the Czechoslovak communist party seized power in February 1948, the way the public perceived the uprising had to be changed to fit the party's interpretation, purposely overlooking the contribution of any non-communist resistence. This ideologically suitable interpretation had to be accepted even by the main leader of the uprising. The aforementioned interpretation can still be seen in historiographic books, even those published after the Velvet Revolution. Interpretation of the same event with the targeted use of words and phrases allows for different sounds and thus influences the reader. Targeted use of historical events can achieve the long-term prevalence of rumors, the refutation of which is a necessity and the work of historians. On the example of key moments of the uprising, such as its spontaneous beginning, the involvement of The Russian Liberation Army or the surrender of German troops...
Reflections of the Munich Agreement in the illegal anti-Nazi magazine "V boj"
Budská, Eva ; Kučera, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Šmidrkal, Václav (referee)
This thesis deals with the magazine V boj's reflection of the Munich Agreement. This journal was published illegally in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia from May 1939 to spring 1941. V boj was a part of the resistance standing up for Beneš. This academic work will show the immediate reactions of contemporaneous Czech and foreign authors to the Munich Agreement. A content analysis examines three concrete and distinct paradigms associated with the Munich Agreement. The first paradigm reflects the Agreement of Munich as a betrayal of western countries. The second is the amount of Beneš's responsibility for this event. The third contends that this agreement reflects the collapse of Czechoslovak democracy. V boj allows one not only to look closer at the so-called civic groups, but also to examine the prints published by the military resistance organization Obrana národa (Defence of the Nation). The thesis follows the general knowledge of the V boj's content presented by its reprint, done by Růžena Hlušičková and her collective.
