Forming of identity through history lessons The description of Czech-Slovak relations since the Middle Ages to the present in textbooks of the 20th century

This bachelor thesis deals with an analysis of Czech history textbooks that were used in schools in Czechoslovakia during the years 1918-1939 and years 1945-1989. A chosen sample of textbooks is analysed from the perspective of Czech-Slovak relations and of the influence of czechoslovakism on making of history school text. The thesis is based on the assumption that history education takes a signifiant part in making of one's identity. The first part of this thesis describes the theoretical resources, the second the specific conclusions and examples of analysis of the historical sources. Special attention is payed to the theory of czechoslovakism, its historical evolution and its echo in historiography. The topics of the analytic part are husittism, national revival and formation of Czechoslovakia.
Rural section of Bohemia newspaper

The diploma thesis "Rural section of the Bohemia newspapers in 1856 - 1876" analyses the thematic content and news frequency from the countryside and places that the German written newspapers Bohemia published during the introduced period. In the beginning the thesis describes the historical, cultural and political connection in the Czech countries, it focuses mainly on Czech-German relationship and national problems that grew after the year 1848. It introduces the media area of this period as well. The main titles and newspapers distributed in Prague and German places have been mentioned there. Bohemia played the main role in integration of German population especially till 50s. Consecutively, it grows the number of other titles and periodical, so Bohemia loses its strong position. Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the rural section should prove weakening of the rural news and the changes of its structure and content. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Magic fairytale and its metamorphoses in works of 17th to 19th century

Abstact This bachelor thesis focuses on examining the development of fairytales with an emphasis on literary adaptations of magic fairytales of the 17th to the 19th century. It consists of theoretical and practical parts. The first chapter discusses the basic characteristics of fairytales, its definition, features, classification. Furthermore, the work deals with theories about the origin of folktales and ways of their analysis from a scientific point of view. At the end of the this part fairytales are analysed as a literary genre. The second part represents writers Charles Perrault, Brothers Grimm, Karel Jaromír Erben Božena Němcová. Each of these authors approaches to their fairytale works in a different way, which is described in this section. In chapters of each writer, we first learn about their biography, as well as the time in which they lived, along with its historical and social background and last but not least, with their literary production with an emphasis on fairytale work. The last chapter contains a practical part of thesis. There is comparison of two magic fairytales, that appear in the works of authors from the second chapter. First we meet with a history and short plot of the tales, followed by analysis of their characters and differences in the various versions, and ultimately the story...
Česká stráž Journal (1890-1901) and its most Influential Editors

The object of this work is to analyse Česká stráž journal at the end of 19th century (1890-1901). The main stress is put on the period, when the editorial staff consisted of an editorial trio (Cyril Horáček, Václav Choc and Eduard Koerner), who were trying to create a new political party. At that time the editors had made contacts with the political and cultural elites such as Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Josef Svatopluk Machar etc. The editorial group of Česká stráž journal belonged to a radical movement of Czech lands. However, the editors split up at the dawn of the 20th century and each of them entered a different political party.
German texts by some representatives of national revival in the Czech lands of the 19th century, because of aspects of historical linguistics

In the first half of the 19th century, the emancipation efforts of the ethnic groups living under domination of bigger nations grew stronger. Emancipation movements were influenced by the humanistic ideas of Johann Gottfried Herder, proclaiming the language as the most important characteristic feature of a nation and that every nation has the natural right to claim it's identity. Motivated by these concepts, the Czechs identified the enforcement of Czech language with the fight for the nation. This Diploma thesis deals with the textual analysis of the German manuscripts by the Czech revivalists Karel Alois Vinařický, František Palacký and Pavel Josef Šafařík, regarding the state of education in the Czech lands and the comparison between these manuscripts. The textual analysis (Brinker: 2001) reflects the communication field, the purpose of writing the text, circumstances of their creation, the role of the emittent and the recipient and finally the intention of the author, which is related with the indenfitication of the text function. All texts contain elements of the text type "language defense". The bachelor thesis "Rural section of the Bohemia newspapers up to 1850s" analyses the thematic content and news frequency from the countryside and places that the German written newspapers Bohemia published during the introduced period. In the beginning the thesis describes the historical, cultural and political connection in the Czech countries, shows the bourgeoisie life and its customs and social changes. It introduces the media area of this period. It focuses closely on progress of the Bohemia newspapers, its content, interest and activity. It focuses on the rural section of Bohemia, which started to appear in a separate section from the year 1837. The quantitative analysis of the rural section describes the gradual frequency and the changes of the medial contents depending on the political and social situation.
The Czech - German dialog at life and writings of nationalist, priest and educator František Pravda

Submitted diploma thesis describes the life of priest František Pravda, born Vojtěch Hlinka. He was well-known writer and founder of short stories with rural theme. The thesis introduces Hlinka as a writer, but primarily as a man of many other professions and interests. The way of life brought him to Hrádek u Sušice to work for an aristocratic family of Sturmfeders. Attention is concerned with mutual relations between the Czech patriot and four generations of German baronial family. Hlinka worked as an educator of feeble-minded Ottokar Sturmfeder in Hrádek´s castle. His extraordinary psychopaedics talent is compared with usual provincial and European contemporary standards. There is also depicted Hlinka´s political, writing and religion career and his other interests. The thesis doesn´t overlook Hlinka´s contacts with important representatives of artistic and political life, which helps to complete the picture of Hlinka´s personality.
The character of Faust in Czech literature

The aim of the thesis will be the comparison and impairment of evolution in the concept of Faustian character in four works of Czech literature during the period of humanism, Renaissance and National Revival. The basis will be Life History of Doctor Faustus which was published by Jar.Kolár in 1611 release by Martin Carchesius and slightly modified edition of V.R.Kramerius in the series of Jan Lehár. There will be Matěj Kopecký´s puppet theatre play and the Faustus House legend from the Alois Jirásek´s Old Czech Legends interpreted in the backround of the analysis of these two texts. The student will try to outline the evolution of the view of the doctor Faustus´s character in the period context and consider the level of fun and the moral appeal in each work. The student will deal with Faustus in the context of humanistic desire for knowledge in conection with Life History of Doctor Faustus by Carchesius.
