Roma population in Slovakia and possibilities of its prediction Abstract The aim of this study is to analyze and to evaluate the demographic reproduction of the Roma population in Slovakia. In the first part, attention is focused on analyzing the demographic processes as well as selected population structure. Primarily, we focused on the description of the fertility and mortality. In addition, we analyze induced and spontaneous abortion and health status of Roma. In terms of population structures, our attention was turned to the structure by age, marital status and highest educational attainment. Important to the overall understanding of reproductive behavior is also characteristic of the Roma families. Based on these findings we prepared projection of Roma population in Slovakia for the period 1981-2030. This study especially aims to point out the changes in the reproductive behavior of the Roma population in Slovakia and its possible development in the future. Analysis of biographical interviews with Roma survivors of Nazi persecution against the backdrop of compensation processes in CZ

This paper deals with an analysis of biographical interviews with Roma survivors of Nazi persecution. The emphasis is put on different elements that may affect narrated life histories. It views memories from the initial remembering to their new contextualization throughout the life; it draws the attention to the narrative tradition of respondent's background as well as the final narration and its specific circumstances. The analysis is framed with the Czech compensation programs for victims of war injustice. The text points out to different perspectives of history adopted by state authorities on one side and those applying on "compensation" on the other. The paper also discusses mutual misunderstanding of different perspectives of the past, of an administrator/ historian and of an eye-witness.

The Pahari Doms: the case study of Dom communities living in surrounding of the town Bhimtal in Indian state Uttaranchal

The thesis introduces gathered Indian castes that are known as Doms. The Dom castes are considered to be the groups in where Roma originated. The thesis is a case study of particular localities of the North-Indian region Kumaon (Uttarakhand province). The thesis focuses on the daily life of local Dom groups, their position in the caste system, and also targets the professions they are performing. It further targets the practices performed during choosing the partner and also focuses on their religious ideas about the world around them. Finally it itroduces the parallels, that can be found between Doms and Roma.

Legitimation and professionalization of a Romani NGO in the Czech Republic Hana Synková This PhD. thesis maps strategies of legitimation and survival of non-governmental organizations working with people that use to be categorized as "socially excluded" or "Roma". It attempts to answer the question: "What NGOs do to be able to look successful, gain resources, and create organizational reputation?" This work does not treat organizations as "things", but as processes and social networks influenced by state and European policies, funding mechanisms and internal competition. Despite the organizations being discursively divided into those preferring more ethnic or social definition of their clients, they have to cope with the same pressures in the shape of social services law, standards of quality or control systems that come with projects. Organizations are far from devoting their time to "work with clients"; they are also involved in enlarging social capital of their members and in production of "texts" that serve their legitimation claims towards control bodies, other organizations and public. Primary prevention of rasicm and xenophobia with the use of multicultural education in elementary school

ANNOTATION: The thesis investigates a multicultural education and its applications within the implementations of racism and xenophobia primary prevention at elementary school. The thesis is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The aim of theoretical part is to review theoretical bases of primary prevention, multicultural education, and educational forms and methods. In accordance to these applications, the primary prevention and multicultural education can be implemented into the elementary school education. The practical part suggests a multicultural education project, which was built-up in order to lead students to deny the xenophobia and the racism.

Gypsies in our society in the kontext with the majority

The thesis deals with the relations between the Gypsies and the majority of companies. Briefly describes the history of Gypsies in the world and in our country, explores key points in history, when they first appear splits between the majority and the Gypsies minority. It also describes possible partial solution to this problem in multicultural education and awareness among the Roma and the majority society. There is mention of a key idea that a large part of the conflict between the two companies stems from a mutual lack of understanding of both cultures. The practical part deals with the attitudes and relationships of the majority of the Roma, which is directly experienced in every day life.

Assessing Roma inclusion specialised NGOs in terms of reacting to Roma needs

The aim of this thesis is to find out the extent to which non-profit organizations (NGOs) specialized on Roma inclusion react to their clients' needs. The thesis works with qualitative research method that is based on interviews with NGOs representatives and field researchers, and a questionnaire filled by Roma clients. The research is focused on four main factors which are: communication with Roma clients, efficiency efforts, dependence on funding requirements, and a support of intercultural meetings between Roma people and the majority. According to the results of the analysis there are different strategies amongst the organizations but all of them try to work in compliance with the needs of their clients. The experience of the interviewed field researchers and Roma clients prove that the NGOs' activities are sufficient and correspond with the real needs of their Roma clients to great extent. Roma people and Velvet Revolution

This thesis approaches life of Roma people during communist era, and subsequent changes in their everyday life caused by the velvet revolution. First part approaches explanation of terms such as minority, nationality, integration and acculturisation, totalitarian regime and racial discrimination. The practical part deals with how Roma people dealt with changes inside regime. Testimonies of narrators were divided into larger groups such as everyday life before 1989, the velvet revolution era, life after 1989 Roma language and Roma identity. Thesis uses qualitative research in form of semi-structured interviews with 9 Roma people living in various parts of The Czech Republic.
